Chapter 407 - 405: Can’t We Get Over The Ex-Husband Thing?

It wasn’t just Celeste Grant; she believed that even back in her former world, the poem most people knew best was "Quiet Night Thought."

Moonlight before my bed,

I mistake it for frost on the ground.

I raise my head to gaze at the moon,

And lower it, homesick.

She was certain most people knew that one. As for the others, how many more they could remember was a true test of skill. After all, not everyone could be an overachiever like Leo, who could recite the entire anthology of *Three Hundred Tang Poems* from memory.

Leo looked up at her. "Miss, that’s not very comforting."

"Hahaha..." Celeste Grant laughed. "This just proves that sometimes you just have to take it easy. Don’t work yourself so hard. Now get up, and I’ll treat you to hot pot some other day."

At the mention of food, Leo scrambled up from the ground, flicking his sleeves. "You’re the best, Miss."

「After coming out of seclusion.」

Celeste Grant settled back into her old routine.

She ate when she pleased and drank when she pleased.

With Leo around, he was always finding new ways to cook delicious meals for her. Celeste Grant discovered that when Leo used ingredients from the Cultivation World, the dishes he made were absolutely divine; even she couldn’t resist them.

Currently, the power of The Immortal and Demonic Paths in the Cultivation World was roughly balanced. Aside from a few individuals with exceptionally high cultivation, the rest were more or less on the same level. Ever since the world’s cultivation level system had been fully established, everyone in the Cultivation World saw their strength grow steadily.

Take the Bloodfiend Den, for example.

The cultivation of the elders there was already among the highest in the Cultivation World. The elders had now begun training their own Direct Disciples in preparation for them to take over their positions in the future.

Among them, Elder Sawyer was already a cultivator at the Void Refinement Realm. The other elders had all broken through to the Divinity Transformation Stage as well. There was one other person with immense cultivation: Nerida. It was said that she had already reached the Integration Realm ten years ago. She was currently away cultivating and had not yet returned; it was expected that by the time she did, she would have broken through to the Mahayana Realm.

Nerida had always been very powerful.

Back when the laws of the Heavenly Dao were incomplete, her cultivation was already among the best in the Cultivation World, which meant she was even more formidable now.

Hearing such good news,

Celeste Grant was delighted.

This meant they all had a chance to ascend. In the future, they could meet again in the Upper Realm and continue to cultivate together. After all, when going to an unfamiliar place, seeing a familiar face was always a good thing.

「In the six months that followed.」

Nerida did not return.

Elder Sawyer and Elder Lawson had hit a bottleneck in their cultivation and had gone out in search of opportunities; they likely wouldn’t be back for several years. And her son, Aaron, being the restless person he was, had returned for only a short time before heading out to cultivate again.

「That night.」

When Javier Sinclair returned, he sat down on the couch and held out his hand. "Celeste~"

’For some reason, she could hear a hint of grievance in his voice.’

"What’s wrong, Archfiend?"

She walked over to him as she spoke. Just as she drew near, an arm shot out and wrapped around her waist, pulling her onto his lap. He rested his head gently on her shoulder, his arms holding her tight. "My love..."

Celeste Grant raised an eyebrow and turned to face him. She reached out, cupped Javier Sinclair’s face, and leaned closer. "Your tone is off. Is something the matter?"

He nodded slightly.

He hummed in affirmation.

Celeste Grant asked him softly, "What is it? Tell me about it."

He slowly lifted his gaze to meet her eyes, his hand gently caressing her cheek. "I can’t bear to leave you."

Celeste Grant froze for a moment at his words, then asked, "Where are you going?"

Javier Sinclair said, "Something has come up in the Upper Realm, and I need to make a trip back. My subordinates sent word that the people from the Holy Land of the Immortal Domain have taken advantage of my absence to attack the Demonic Domain. They’ve already amassed an army of hundreds of thousands, so I have to return. While I’ve been in the Lower Realm, someone started a rumor that I’m dead, and it’s just gotten more and more absurd. The latest version is so vivid, they’re claiming I was sliced to pieces by the Holy Land of the Immortal Domain, and that my bones were fashioned into a skeleton and hung up in Sancthelm. Heh, if I don’t go back and rise from the dead, I’d be doing a disservice to such a ridiculous rumor."

Hearing this,

Celeste Grant’s first reaction was to worry. "Will you be in danger?"

He replied, "As if they could ever be a threat to me."

She reached out and took his hand. "Husband, can I go with you?"

’Celeste Grant still didn’t feel right about him going alone, even though she knew she probably wouldn’t be much help. Still, she wanted to face this with him. He was the father of her child and the man she loved.’

Javier Sinclair lowered his head in thought for a moment before saying, "You aren’t from the Upper Realm, and you haven’t undergone the Ascension Thunder Tribulation. If you go there, you’ll be rejected by its laws. It’s the same principle that prevents those from the Upper Realm from casually descending to the Lower Realm. Unless, of course, one’s cultivation is powerful enough to ignore those laws."

"Oh, never mind then..." Celeste Grant was a little disappointed. She looked up at him. "You have to be careful. I’ll be waiting for you to come back."

His long, slender fingers tightened around her hand.

"Celeste, I could take you to the Upper Realm, but the Demonic Domain is sure to be in chaos right now. It would be too dangerous for you. I’ll come back as soon as I’ve dealt with those people."

Celeste Grant knew he was telling the truth.

’It was just like back when she had struggled to survive in the Cultivation World. If she went to the Upper Realm now, it would be the same as her old self, unable to cultivate, running into powerful cultivators.’

At this thought,

she nodded slightly.

"Mhm, I understand."

She wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned into his embrace. "Archfiend, go and come back quickly. I’ll be waiting for you in the Lower Realm." Here, she gave a faint smile and added in a deliberately lighthearted tone, "But after you leave, don’t you go forgetting about me again."

His arms tightened around her.

"I won’t."

"Good. And another thing... I wouldn’t be very happy if my husband returned from his trip with a pregnant woman in tow." She couldn’t help but laugh as she said it. ’Of course, she was only joking. Celeste Grant knew what kind of man he was. He would never, ever do anything to betray her.’

"Don’t worry... I can’t even be bothered to give other women a second glance."

"Heh, so you do want to take a glance?"

"No, no, absolutely not! When I have you, the one I long for day and night, waiting at home, why would I ever look at another woman?" As he spoke, he gently stroked her hair. "Damn it... Those old dogs from the Holy Land of the Immortal Domain just love to bark for no reason. When I get there, I’m going to flay them alive." The mere thought of being separated from his wife, even temporarily, made him utterly unwilling to go.

’This is so damn annoying!’

’It was fine back when I didn’t have a wife. I was alone for millennia, free of attachments and worries. But now, I have a Taoist Companion and a son. I have things to care about. Even my heart, which hadn’t stirred in ten thousand years, now belongs completely to her.’

This was why his eyes turned terrifyingly grim at the mere mention of the Holy Land of the Immortal Domain. "Celeste, you have to wait for me. And if that ex-husband of yours suddenly shows up, you tell him you’ve remarried and that I’m the only one in your heart now."

As soon as he said this,

Celeste Grant’s lip twitched.

’He really can’t get over this ex-husband thing, can he?’
