Chapter 374 - 372: From Villainess to the Heavenly Dao’s Own Daughter
In the past, whenever she had nothing better to do, she’d try to claim the Heavenly Dao as her father. It always responded with a single word: "Scram."
But now, it seemed the Heavenly Dao had acknowledged her. ’Guess if you call the Heavenly Dao "Dad" enough, it might just come true.’ And even if it didn’t, there was no harm in trying.
"The Heavenly Dao’s own daughter"—that title carried a lot of weight.
Anyone who’d ever read a novel knew that protagonists blessed by the world’s fortune were basically unkillable. While others fought tooth and nail for a sliver of a chance at heavenly treasures, the chosen ones could get them with ease, stumbling upon forgotten windfalls or even making their words reality. Even during their tribulations, Heavenly Thunder would strike without leaving a scratch, and they would break through to the next realm successfully. It was the ultimate cheat code.
’Hehehehe...’
"Thanks, Papa Heavenly Dao." She looked up at the golden cloud. "From now on, I’m your real daughter, so you have to look out for me. When it’s time for my Heavenly Tribulation, remember to go easy on me. Don’t fry me to a crisp."
The Heavenly Dao: "..."
But Celeste Grant was still going.
"As the Heavenly Dao’s very own daughter, I should have all the proper perks, right? Like my words becoming law, or heavenly treasures just falling into my lap. You have to set me up with the right image. Otherwise, if I go out and tell people I’m your daughter, no one will believe me."
The Heavenly Dao: "..."
This time, Celeste saw a response. A single, enormous word appeared, impossible to miss: ’SCRAM.’
Celeste just smiled, not at all offended. She even added, "I’m going into seclusion for my Cultivation now. When it’s time for my breakthrough, be a dear, Dad, and strike a little more gently. I’m scared of pain, you know."
Several more words appeared in the sky.
Give an inch, take a mile!
The words appeared and then quickly vanished, and the golden cloud disappeared along with them.
Javier Sinclair, who was standing beside her, turned his gaze to Celeste Grant. The corner of his mouth twitched, and he couldn’t help but chuckle. "You really are pushing your luck."
’This woman must be the first person to ever dare make so many demands of the Heavenly Dao.’ After all, the might of the heavens was not to be trifled with. For her to ask for so much and not get struck by lightning... ’She really must be its daughter.’
Celeste looked up and smiled. "That’s not pushing my luck, that’s just us having a family chat. Papa Heavenly Dao is my father, and it’s only natural for a father to take care of his daughter."
Javier Sinclair: "..."
’Her logic is so sound, I can’t even argue with it. But is this right?’
Celeste giggled, linking her arm with his. "I’m the Heavenly Dao’s daughter now, which makes you its son-in-law."
"Oh, speaking of which, now that we’re back in the Cultivation World, we should go see my parents."
Javier Sinclair paused. "Parents? You mean... my father-in-law and mother-in-law?"
Celeste nodded slightly. "That’s right! I forgot you have amnesia and don’t remember them."
’Right, his predecessor’s in-laws. No, *his* in-laws. It was high time he went to meet them.’
"But..." Javier looked at her, unable to hold back his question. "So, were you originally from this Cultivation World, or did you come from another world?"
Hearing this, Celeste scratched her head. "It’s a little complicated. Let’s just say I was originally from another world. The one we were in just before coming here—I originally lived there. One day, I was struck by lightning, and my Divine Soul transmigrated into this Cultivation World. By a stroke of luck, my Divine Soul entered the body of a girl who had the same name and even looked exactly like me. After that, I lived in this world for a long time, and her parents became my parents. You probably don’t know this, but this world originally evolved from the world inside a book... blah, blah, blah..."
Celeste explained a great deal to him.
She gave him a rundown of everything that had happened since she first transmigrated into the Cultivation World, so he would have a basic understanding.
Javier Sinclair listened quietly. He didn’t remember any of it, because it wasn’t *his* experience. And yet, as he listened to Celeste’s story, he felt a faint sense of familiarity.
At this thought, he nodded slightly. "I never would have guessed this world began as a story in a book." He glanced at Celeste. "Celeste, you’ve certainly been through a lot."
He felt a sour pang of jealousy, especially when he heard how she had been betrayed by her cousin and her lover, only to then meet the *other* Javier Sinclair.
’That ex-husband of hers... hundreds of years old, and what right did he have to meet Celeste before I did? If it had been me, I never would have let her suffer so much while pregnant, only to have to find me on her own.’
Thinking of this, he couldn’t stop himself from saying, "That ex of yours was useless. He should have found you immediately. He let you suffer so much while you were pregnant."
Hearing this, Celeste shot him a look.
Javier Sinclair quickly added, "He’s not me."
At that, his gaze instinctively drifted to Celeste’s stomach. He looked at her and said, "You gave him a child. My request isn’t a big one: give me one too. That’s only fair. You had a son with your ex, so give me a daughter. A little girl would be beautiful." The thought of a sweet, cuddly little baby calling him "Daddy" instantly melted Javier Sinclair’s heart into a puddle.
It just goes to show, even with amnesia, the Archfiend couldn’t forget his desire for a daughter. He had wanted one for a long time, but that wish had never come true.
Celeste glanced at him and couldn’t help but laugh. "Alright! If I can get pregnant, I’ll have one. One for each of you. That’s perfectly fair, I have no objections." ’It’s all you anyway!’ But she didn’t say that last part out loud. After all, the Archfiend was currently convinced that he and the previous Javier Sinclair were two different people.
Seeing her willingness, Javier Sinclair was overjoyed.
’My wife is willing to give me a daughter!’
’See? The ex is finally in the past. I’ve already surpassed him.’ Soon, he would drive that "ex-husband" completely from his wife’s heart and fill it with himself. ’Hehehehe.’ At this thought, Javier Sinclair let out a sinister chuckle.
Putting an arm around Celeste’s shoulders, Javier Sinclair said, "Let’s go pay our respects to your parents first. By the way, what should we prepare?" He truly had no idea. He wasn’t the previous Javier Sinclair, after all. This was like a new son-in-law’s first visit.
"Relax," Celeste said. "We don’t really need to bring anything. They’ll be happy just to see us. But we should prepare some gifts for Mom and Dad." They had actually returned two days ago but wanted to give her parents a surprise. So, she’d had her subordinates keep her arrival a secret, and her parents still didn’t know she was back.
Acting on the thought, Celeste immediately summoned Nerida and the others to prepare the gifts.
Leo, who had come with Celeste, was tasked with keeping a list of the gifts and reminding her if anything else needed to be added.
Celeste prepared a great deal herself. Some items were from her previous world—food and other practical things. She also set aside some Cultivation Resources and other fine treasures. Among these were dozens of chests of treasures from Javier Sinclair, where even the lowest-grade items were Spiritual Medicines hundreds of years old.
