Chapter 385 - 383: The Romance of Rook’s Sister, Daisy
Rowan Forrest continued, "Honestly, I think when looking for a Taoist Companion, you should find someone like Brother Rook—tall, imposing, and strong." As she spoke, she thought of Rook’s booming voice and blushed.
"Ahem..."
Glancing at her, Celeste Grant choked a little.
’Right, I’d almost forgotten Rook’s wife has... unique taste.’
Rowan Forrest was fair-skinned and beautiful, the daughter of Elder William Forrest of the Primal Heaven Sect. Perhaps because she grew up surrounded by a crowd of fair-skinned senior and junior martial brothers, she had become immune to conventional good looks. As a result, she grew up not caring for their type. Then Rook came along and saved her—a hero rescuing the damsel in distress—which perfectly aligned with her particular tastes.
At this thought, Celeste Grant smiled and said, "Rook is wonderful, but everyone has different tastes. In the end, it’s Daisy’s choice."
Rowan Forrest nodded slightly. "That’s true," she said. "Daisy might just prefer the fair-skinned type."
’Forget "might,"’ Celeste Grant thought. ’I’m a pretty good judge of character.’
After blushing, Daisy Grant spoke up frankly, "Mrs. Sheffield, I’d like to meet him first." ’With her and her big brother,’ she thought, ’the family already has two hulking figures. We can’t possibly add another one.’
Celeste Grant had no objection. "Of course! You’re just meeting up to see. If it’s not a good fit, then so be it."
Rowan Forrest nodded and said, "That works. If there’s real chemistry, that would be great."
Daisy Grant glanced again at the phone in her sister-in-law’s hand, her eyes sweeping over the photo. "Then I’ll go take a look." ’I have a feeling there’s a real connection with this person,’ she thought. ’I’ll meet him first and see how it goes. If he looks down on me, if I see even a hint of disdain in his eyes, I’ll leave immediately. I’m not one to force things.’
"Great!" Celeste Grant gestured with her hand. "Just go straight to The Golden Bough Matchmaking Service and have them arrange it for you."
"I thank you, Mrs. Sheffield."
’Mrs. Sheffield thought of me first for something like this.’ Daisy was deeply touched.
"Haha, it’s nothing. Don’t just stand there. Please, sit."
"Have some Spirit Fruits. This tea is excellent, too. Please, have a drink."
"Thank you, Mrs. Sheffield."
The two of them didn’t leave right away. Instead, they sat and chatted with Celeste Grant for a while. Once a group of women get to talking, it’s hard to stop, and time flew by before they knew it.
That afternoon, Rook also found out. He was stunned for a moment to hear his little sister was going to meet with a male cultivator. He immediately grabbed his wife, ready to go and give the man a proper once-over, but she pulled him back. "Brother Rook, you’ll scare him away if you go like that. Let’s go watch from a distance."
Rook let out a booming laugh.
"You’re right. We’ll just tail them and see what happens."
They weren’t the only ones with that idea. A number of disciples from the Bloodfiend Den, mostly brothers from the Bloodfury Hall, were also eager for some entertainment. These were men who had life-and-death bonds with Daisy Grant and her brother. As soon as they got the news, they went ahead to grab good seats.
Naturally, Celeste Grant and Nerida went along to watch the show as well, disguised with altered appearances. There was no way she would miss this.
’After all, I’m the one who tied this red string. I have to go see how it turns out. I trust my instincts on this one.’
「Meanwhile, in Bloodfiend City.」
Gideon Forrest, who had come for the appointment, stood at a corner, feeling a little nervous. He straightened his clothes and was about to walk to the agreed-upon place when he turned and bumped into someone.
The other person reached out and steadied him.
"My apologies, fellow cultivator. I wasn’t looking."
Gideon Forrest apologized profusely for bumping into them. But when he got a clear look at the person, he froze.
At first glance.
’Envy.’
On second glance.
’Still envy.’
This was a female cultivator.
She was tall and powerfully built, with arms so firm and strong it looked like she could lift him with one hand. The female cultivator wore practical black attire and held a massive hammer as her Magic Artifact. She even seemed a little taller than him, and her presence was overwhelming.
He glanced down at himself—at his own slender arms and slim waist—and sighed inwardly. ’No comparison at all.’
The female cultivator in front of him was sizing him up as well. Feeling her gaze on him, Gideon Forrest couldn’t help but blush. He gave an embarrassed smile and a small nod of apology, intending to walk away.
Just then, he heard her speak. "Hey, you’re a bit scrawny. You should take more Spiritual Medicine to build yourself up."
’How mortifying.’
’I can’t hear you, I can’t hear you.’
For a female cultivator to tell him he needed to "build himself up"—wasn’t that just calling him inadequate? Gideon Forrest wanted to cry. He didn’t lift his head, just gave a hollow laugh and said, "Right. Thanks for the tip, fellow cultivator."
He was already walking away as he spoke, heading toward the designated meeting spot. He didn’t stop until he reached the teahouse entrance. He glanced back, but the female cultivator was gone. A pang of disappointment hit him.
’She looked so strong.’
’If only she were the one I was here to meet.’
At that thought, his enthusiasm for the upcoming meeting evaporated. His mind involuntarily drifted back to the female cultivator he’d just encountered, and his face flushed red. The face in his memory was strong-featured, completely different from any female cultivator he had ever seen. Yet, for some reason, he felt her appearance was perfect just the way it was.
He glanced back one more time, a sense of loss settling in his heart.
’I forgot to ask her name just now.’
’I’ll probably never see her again.’
’I should go in and meet my date for today, anyway.’
With that thought, he stepped inside, found a table by the window, and sat down. He waited and waited, but when no one appeared, he turned his gaze to the street outside.
But his mind was still on the person he had bumped into at the corner.
’Is that lady a cultivator here in Bloodfiend City? A Demon Cultivator? I wonder if I’ll ever see her again.’ Just as he was thinking his blind date might not show up, a bouquet of flowers appeared on his table.
"I’m not late, am I?"
The voice startled him so much he shot to his feet. Gideon Forrest stumbled backward and, losing his footing, landed right on the floor. He scrambled back up, his face beet red.
He knew.
’It’s over.’
’I’ve completely ruined this blind date.’
Sweat beaded on his forehead.
He opened his mouth, but could barely force the words out. "Sister... please, sit."
Gideon Forrest would never in a million years have guessed that his date was the very same female cultivator he had run into earlier. He was now utterly flustered and didn’t know what to do with his hands.
Daisy Grant was taken aback. ’He called me Sister? How odd. His voice is really pleasant, though.’
Daisy Grant heard the wild laughter of her brothers from the shadows. Her face darkened as she glared in their direction. ’What are these idiots doing here trying to join the fun? If they scare off my wife—no, wait—my husband, I’m going to beat them all to a pulp when I get back.’
"HAHAHA..."
"So that’s our brother-in-law. He’s pretty fair-skinned."
"Wide hips... good for childbearing."
"You idiot, how can a man give birth? He does look really scrawny, though. But that’s fine. She can just haul him home and fatten him up."
These comments reached her ears one after another.
Daisy Grant’s face turned red.
’Thank goodness his Cultivation isn’t high, so he couldn’t have heard them,’ she thought. ’Otherwise, I would have died of embarrassment.’
