Chapter 386 - 384: Throw Out the Onlookers
Just as her brothers had said, the cultivator before her was indeed fair-skinned. A quick glance showed a trim waist and long legs, and his face was even more handsome than in his photograph.
Daisy Grant glanced up at him.
After seeing him in person, Daisy Grant gave up all hope for this matchmaking session. ’After all, a male cultivator this handsome would never be interested in someone like me.’
She had arrived carrying her great hammer, but her brothers had taken it away. They’d then stuffed a bouquet into her hands, telling her she could give it to her "future brother-in-law" as a gift. They’d even claimed it’s what all male cultivators do to woo their wives. She’d regretted it the moment they’d given it to her; something about it just felt wrong. ’Oh well,’ she thought, ’it’s just this one meeting. We probably won’t have anything to do with each other after this.’
She looked at her matchmaking partner, unsure of what to say.
Daisy Grant glanced at the bouquet on the table and spoke. "These flowers are for you. I hope you like them."
Flowers? Gideon Forrest froze, his ears flushing red to the tips. He quickly snatched the bouquet from the table and clutched it to his chest. "Thank you! I love them."
’The female cultivator in front of me actually gave me flowers, yet I came completely unprepared. I’ve never really interacted with female cultivators before, so I don’t know anything about this stuff. I’m doomed. I finally meet a potential Taoist Companion who’s exactly my type, and I didn’t even prepare a little.’
While he was lost in his thoughts, he had no idea that the female cultivator sitting across from him was already watching him with curiosity.
Daisy Grant was surprised.
’He actually likes them. Looks like my brothers are good for something after all.’ Seeing him accept the flowers made her a little happy.
With that thought, she said, "I’m glad you like them." As she spoke, she sat down across from him.
As soon as Daisy Grant sat down, it felt like her presence filled up one entire side of the table. In contrast, the male cultivator opposite her was slim and frail-looking. With her formidable appearance, anyone else would probably have been scared off.
After she sat, the atmosphere grew a little quiet.
This teahouse in Bloodfiend City was a property of the Bloodfiend Den, and it had been cleared out for the afternoon. All the cultivators present now were their own people from the Bloodfiend Den.
At that moment, by the stairwell, a row of people were crouched down, peeking straight in their direction. As for the main hall, two exceptionally plain-looking female cultivators were seated there. Those two were Celeste Grant and Nerida.
Many more were hidden in the shadows.
In short... they were all here for the show.
At a corner table by the window, Gideon Forrest and Daisy Grant glanced at each other.
When he remained silent,
Daisy Grant figured she understood the situation.
’He must not be interested in me.’
She wasn’t one to force things.
Daisy Grant thought he was probably afraid of her.
’I should just say my piece and go,’ she thought. ’At least he isn’t giving me the weird looks I usually get from men. He’s treating me like a normal female cultivator, and that’s more than enough.’
Thinking this, she spoke up. "I didn’t scare you, did I? Are you very disappointed now that you’ve seen me in person?" She let out a dry laugh, trying to hide her embarrassment.
Disappointed? Hearing this, Gideon Forrest quickly looked up at the female cultivator across from him.
’How could I be disappointed? I’m beyond thrilled!’ He quickly shook his head. "I’m not disappointed, really! And you didn’t scare me at all. I think the way you look is just right, miss. Really."
Daisy Grant paused, a blush rising on her cheeks as she said, "As long as I didn’t scare you."
Gideon Forrest said, "No, not at all! How could you scare me? Actually, I’m quite envious of you." As he spoke, his gaze fell on her sturdy arms, and he subconsciously pulled his own hands into his sleeves.
He truly was envious.
Then the two fell silent again, just looking at each other.
Gideon Forrest, however, felt that as the man, he should be more proactive. Thinking this, he straightened up slightly. He looked up at her and asked, "Miss, are you the female cultivator I’m meeting for the matchmaking session today?"
Before coming here, he had simply received a call from a cultivator at The Golden Bough Matchmaking Service. They told him they’d found a female cultivator who fit his requirements for a Taoist Companion and asked if he’d like to meet. Thinking they were impressively quick, and being in a hurry to find a Taoist Companion himself, he had agreed.
’Even now, he was thinking that The Golden Bough Matchmaking Service’s network must be truly vast. To find a potential Taoist Companion who so perfectly matched his preferences so quickly...’
When Gideon Forrest spoke, his tone was a little nervous.
Daisy Grant glanced at him and nodded slightly. "Yes, I’m the female cultivator you’re meeting today. My surname is Grant, and my given name is Daisy. You look pretty young, so you can call me Daisy."
"Alright, Daisy." Hearing her introduction, Gideon Forrest quickly replied, "My surname is Forrest, and my given name is Gideon."
At this point, Daisy Grant spoke up. "I hear you’re looking for a Taoist Companion with high cultivation and a tall, large build."
’So the matchmaking service told her about my requirements. How embarrassing. I hope Daisy doesn’t think I’m some kind of weirdo.’ Thinking this, he glanced up at the female cultivator across from him, his face flushing.
"Y-yes, that’s right." Gideon Forrest lowered his head slightly. "My parents died when I was very young, and I’ve always had a weak constitution. My uncles want to marry me off for their own benefit, and I don’t want to let them have their way. That’s why I want to find a powerful Taoist Companion who can protect me... and the inheritance my parents left me. Of course, if I find a Taoist Companion, I’ll treat her very well. I’ll be completely devoted to her." The redder his ears became as he spoke, and he couldn’t help but lower his head.
’Those cultivators with high cultivation are all very proud. They would definitely look down on a mere Foundation Establishment Stage cultivator like me.’ Gideon Forrest, however, hadn’t given up hope and wanted to at least try.
He hadn’t come today with much hope, but after seeing the female cultivator he was meeting, he felt his heart racing.
’This was exactly the kind of Taoist Companion he wanted.’
’No wonder he wants a Taoist Companion with high cultivation. So that’s the reason. Based on what he said, I really do seem to fit the bill. But this kind of thing requires mutual consent, and you have to actually like each other. Just like The Exalted One and his wife, or like Big Brother and Sister-in-law.’
Daisy Grant thought for a moment and said, "Hold on, let me ask you a question. Do you actually like tall, solidly-built female cultivators, or are you just looking for someone to protect you? If you just need a cultivator for protection, you don’t have to force yourself to find a Taoist Companion you don’t like. If you’re in some kind of trouble, I can help."
She patted her chest.
Seeing her generous offer to help, Gideon Forrest’s face turned even redder. But realizing she might have misunderstood, he quickly stood up. "No, you’ve misunderstood! It’s not just about finding someone to protect me. I personally like tall, well-built female cultivators. Someone just like you, miss... I think you’re very beautiful, and I like that a lot."
The moment he finished speaking,
A series of CLANGS and THUDS came from the stairwell.
Hearing the noise, the two of them turned to look, only to see seven or eight female cultivators tumbling down the stairs, ending up in a human pile.
