Chapter 1352: Here for Love 5
Although Easton Holmes hadn’t noticed Athena Linton’s sneaky smile earlier, from her current behavior, he agreed with Lily Turner’s guess that she had something on her mind.
Athena Linton felt guilty about her secret being guessed, and now, being watched by Easton Holmes like that, she felt even more uneasy.
Not to mention, she didn’t have any so-called jokes to tell, and even if she did have a joke in her mind, her brother’s stare would make her forget it all.
"It’s mealtime; what’s the point of telling jokes now? Let’s wait until after dinner to hear Athena tell us a joke." Just when Athena didn’t know how to handle the situation, Lily Turner suddenly spoke up. However, she only temporarily helped Athena out of the situation and didn’t intend to solve it fundamentally.
She was very interested in her sister-in-law’s secret because she saw a shy vibe in her eyes.
If she wasn’t mistaken, her sister-in-law had developed a crush on someone.
Easton Holmes thought his wife’s words made a lot of sense, nodding in agreement: "Alright! After dinner, we’ll listen to Athena tell a joke."
Athena really wanted to get up and run away immediately, but the moment the thought crossed her mind, her brother’s warning voice echoed in her ears, "Don’t even think about running off. If we don’t hear your joke today, we’ll definitely hear it tomorrow."
Easton Holmes noticed Athena’s intention to escape, and to satisfy his wife’s curiosity, he ’cruelly’ warned his sister.
"Let’s eat."
Callix Linton looked around and then, like a command to his soldiers, ordered everyone to eat.
When the most authoritative head of the family had spoken, everyone present stopped doing things unrelated to eating and refocused on the meal.
Thinking about being forced by Easton Holmes to ’tell a joke’ after dinner, Athena immediately lost her appetite, even though her stomach was quite hungry, she just couldn’t eat anything.
Not eating anything worried her, thinking her sharp-eyed brother might notice something, so she had to grit her teeth and continue eating.
About forty minutes later, those who were full started to leave one by one.
Callix Linton went to the living room to watch TV, while Amelia Linton and the nanny took the three little ones out to play, leaving only Athena Linton, Easton Holmes, and Lily Turner in the dining room.
"Brother! Sister Lily! You two take your time eating; I’m going upstairs first." Seeing that Grandpa and Auntie and the three little ones had left, Athena also planned to leave.
Before his sister could get up, Easton Holmes immediately stopped her, "You haven’t ’told a joke’ for me and your sister-in-law yet. Tell the ’joke’ then head upstairs."
He casually dropped his chopsticks on the table and turned to look at his sister.
Lily Turner also put down her chopsticks and turned to face Athena, waiting for her to tell them a joke, "Athena! We’re ready, so go ahead."
She had a serious listening posture, but she didn’t expect Athena to say anything right away; she was prepared for a long wait.
"You two wait a moment; I need help from the internet." Knowing she couldn’t easily leave, Athena took out her phone from her pocket and started searching for jokes online.
"We can search, too."
Easton Holmes’s underlying message was clear; there was no need for Athena to waste time and energy searching for a joke.
Upon hearing this, Athena jumped up, "Since you’re capable of searching for jokes, I won’t waste time here. I’m going upstairs."
As soon as she finished speaking, she left her seat and ran out of the dining room.
