Chapter 1428: What on Earth Are You Doing
After Thomas Fisher slammed the door and left, he didn’t show up again. Anthony, who brought things she liked to eat, didn’t come to disturb Alice Turner either. Without these two people’s ’disruptions’, Alice Turner didn’t feel any peace; instead, her mood felt even more restless and anxious.
She wanted to use work to numb herself, but she couldn’t get into the work state at all. Her mind was filled with the figure of Thomas Fisher, and she even hallucinated while staring at the computer, seeing him in the documents.
Alice Turner snapped her laptop shut and placed it casually to the side. She stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, leaning sideways against the window frame, staring blankly at the street below.
She maintained this state from bright sunlight until the city lights were dazzling; worn out, she withdrew her gaze from outside, straightened up, and walked into the bathroom.
Alice Turner took a hot shower, feeling much more relaxed afterward. She went over to pick up her phone to check the time and realized she’d been in front of the window for over ten hours; it was already past one or nearly two in the morning.
She turned off the room lights, got into bed with her phone, and browsed the web for a while. As her eyelids began to droop, she quickly set her phone aside, closed her eyes, and started to fall asleep.
Over the years, whenever Alice Turner had trouble sleeping at night, she used this method to drift off. This method had been quite effective for her, and she couldn’t count how many times she’d fallen asleep this way.
Buzz buzz buzz!
In the midst of her drowsy sleep, Alice Turner heard the buzz of her phone vibrating. She reached for it, following the sound and tried hard to open her weary eyes for a look.
The call was from Anthony. She frowned in displeasure and, exhausted, really didn’t want to answer it. But the phone kept buzzing relentlessly, as if it wouldn’t stop until she picked it up.
"Jacob! What’s up?" Just woken up, her voice carried a husky tone.
"Sis! How come you’re still asleep? Weren’t you going to take me to your place today?" Through the phone, Anthony heard the hoarseness in Alice’s voice, instantly guessing his call had just woken her. He was quite surprised; he never thought of her as someone who’d linger in bed.
Alice Turner, still groggy from sleep and unsure of the time, blurted out after hearing Anthony’s words, "But I have to wake up before I can take you."
"What time is it now?"
Just as she was about to hang up and go back to sleep, she suddenly realized she might have overslept and turned to look outside the window.
Through the curtain’s gap, Alice saw the golden sunlight, instantly confirming her suspicion.
Before she could turn her gaze away from the window, Anthony’s exclamation came through the phone again, "Sis! What is going on with you?! What time did you go to bed last night?"
So groggy, it’s not normal! Absolutely not normal!
Alice Turner ignored Anthony’s exclamations, moved the phone away from her ear, and checked the time on the screen. The time was indeed late; she had slept much longer than usual.
"Wait for me in the room. I’ll get up right away. I’ll call you when I’m ready to head out." Without waiting for Anthony’s response, Alice Turner promptly hung up the phone after speaking.
