"I’m insulting you?!"

Hurt flashed in both Thomas Fisher’s eyes and heart; the fact that Alice Turner could say something like that to him was truly beyond anything he’d imagined.

He thought that even if she didn’t love him that much anymore, she didn’t have to say that to him. Didn’t she understand how much those words hurt him?

He knew very well that she was neither stupid nor emotionally dull.

Alice Turner turned her head to the side, trying her best not to look directly at Thomas. When she didn’t see him, her heart didn’t feel quite so bad. "You know perfectly well that I’m a married woman, yet you still do this kind of thing to me. If that’s not insulting me, then what is it?"

As she questioned him, she had no idea whether he was feeling any better than she was.

"I’m loving you! Loving you! Loving you!" Thomas, driven nearly out of his mind by Alice, shouted "I love you" at her three times in a row.

At that, Alice’s brows knit sharply, and she steeled herself, shouting back at the man in front of her, "I don’t feel you loving me at all. All I feel is that you’re insulting me. Get out, now! Don’t ever show up in front of me again. I feel sick just seeing you."

To infuriate him, she yelled as loudly as she could, her expression utterly merciless, yet her heart still couldn’t truly turn hard.

She’d originally wanted to say "I feel disgusted when I see you," but when the words reached her mouth, she changed them.

"You feel sick when you see me? So that means you feel disgusted when you see me?" Thomas let out an enraged, bitter laugh and once more leaned in close to Alice. "You feel disgusted when you see me, but I feel happy when I see you. I’m living here and I’m not leaving."

With that, he flipped over like lightning and lay down on the big bed.

This wasn’t the outcome she’d wanted; what she’d wanted was for him to storm off in anger.

Looking at the man who had suddenly lain down beside her, Alice felt unbearably conflicted inside. She closed her eyes to steady her mood, then tilted her head toward him. "Can you stop being so shameless? If you don’t leave, I don’t mind calling the police to help me."

She only said that to make him leave; she hadn’t actually intended to call the police to remove him.

"I don’t mind you calling the police either." Thomas, however, looked completely unconcerned, still lying flat on his back on the bed, showing absolutely no sign of getting up to go.

"You..." Alice rubbed her forehead in frustration, then picked up her laptop and got off the bed. "If you won’t go, then I will."

With that, she hugged her laptop and headed toward the door.

"Where are you going now?" Thomas shot upright, and with a quick stretch of his long arm, he yanked Alice, who had been about to leave, back onto the bed. "I won’t let you disappear without a word like you did five years ago. You’re not going anywhere. This time, you’re staying by my side."

He opened his arms and held her tightly. Only like this did he feel she wouldn’t suddenly vanish; only then could he truly, tangibly feel her presence.

Thomas’s words suddenly brought tears to Alice’s eyes, and her mood turned sour and painful in an instant. Afraid he would see her like this, she turned her head to look away.

At this moment, she couldn’t say anything ruthless or decisive anymore. No matter how hard she tried, it was almost impossible to be as cruel as she’d just been.

Seeing her turn her head away in silence, Thomas felt wretched inside. He looked at her with a pleading expression. "Alice! Don’t leave me again, okay? I’ve missed you so, so much."
