Chapter 1356: She Loves Him, He Doesn’t Love Her 3
"How am I acting recklessly?"
Athena Linton initially thought Easton Holmes would help her, but to her surprise, not only did he not help, but he also accused her of being reckless.
Easton was very clear about why Athena would make such a request and knew why she was so anxious now. The more anxious she became, the less he could yield.
"This is the company, not home. In the company, you must follow the company’s rules. You can’t act like you’re at home, doing whatever you please." His words were sharp, and the look in his eyes became sharp as well.
"How am I doing whatever I please? I just want to return to Thomas’s side and continue being his secretary." Athena’s mind was solely focused on returning to Thomas Fisher, leaving no room for anything else.
Easton really wanted to reprimand his sister, but he realized doing so would only make things worse, so he had to suppress the urge. "Thomas must have felt you weren’t suitable as his secretary, which is why he reassigned you. Insisting on returning will only disturb him more."
Work-related disturbances, especially psychological ones.
He strongly agreed with his buddy’s decision, which not only created distance between the two but also liberated his close friend.
"How can I disturb Thomas? I just..."
"Don’t say anything more. Even if you talk till the sky falls, I won’t help you make that call." Before Athena could finish, Easton abruptly interrupted her, his tone and expression less than kind.
Athena was about to retort angrily when she suddenly noticed her brother’s face became grim. The words she was about to say got swallowed back down.
"You know better than I do how you got into the company. Thomas is the company’s boss, and all along, the employees hold him in high regard. I hope you don’t tarnish his reputation." Since Athena hadn’t explicitly mentioned her feelings for Thomas Fisher, Easton couldn’t be too direct, though his words weren’t too subtle either.
Hearing Easton speak this way, Athena suddenly recalled the incident where she was mistaken for a thief in the underground parking lot. Her anger abruptly cooled down.
Luckily, she didn’t reveal her name to that security guard; otherwise, she would surely embarrass Thomas. She decided never to go to the underground parking lot to find Thomas again.
Not just the underground parking lot, she couldn’t wait for Thomas on any necessary paths either. If seen by other colleagues, there would surely be gossip.
"I understand now. I won’t tarnish Thomas’s reputation." Athena said gloomily, turning to leave the study. She didn’t achieve her goal today but got scolded by her brother instead, feeling quite upset!
At that moment, she desperately wanted to shout at the sky but dared not. She feared further scolding from her brother and her grandfather, who would surely rebuke her upon hearing it.
Athena angrily spat at the study door, then quickly returned to her room, where she stayed.
Not until the next morning did she leave her room to go to work, looking noticeably calmer than the previous day.
Her overall state improved greatly, no longer appearing as listless and dispirited as before.
