Chapter 1387: You Look Prettier When You Smile

Alice Turner acted as if she hadn’t heard Anthony at all, quietly turning her head to look out the window. Her eyes were fixed outside, but her gaze was completely unfocused.

"Alice! You okay?"

Anthony had noticed something was off with Alice Turner a while ago. He’d never seen her like this before, so he couldn’t help feeling a bit worried.

Hearing Anthony speak again, Alice slowly pulled her gaze back from the window and looked at him sitting across from her. She gave him a reassuring smile. "I’m fine, don’t worry about me. Just eat."

As she spoke, she pushed the plate of shrimp dumplings a little closer to him.

"Alice, you look way better when you smile. When you’re all gloomy, you look really ugly." Seeing her smile at him, Anthony didn’t think her mood had actually improved. He knew she was forcing herself to smile for his sake, so to lighten her mood, he instantly slipped into his usual roguish act.

"Looking for a beating, huh?"

Alice raised one hand as if she were about to smack Anthony, but he didn’t even blink.

Anthony lifted his eyes to her raised hand, then smiled at her. "If you can bear to, then hit me. I’m not going to dodge anyway. As long as it makes you feel better, I’m willing to take that slap."

With that, he leaned his face closer to her.

"Who says I can’t bear to hit you?" Alice’s raised hand came down on Anthony’s face, but she wasn’t hitting him—she was pushing his face away from her.

Anthony pointed at himself. "I said so."

"Hurry up and eat, stop talking nonsense." Alice instantly put on a stern face, but her tone and expression didn’t really match that stern look.

Knowing she was pretending to be mad on purpose, Anthony still played along and nodded. "I’ll eat right away, just don’t be mad at me anymore, okay?"

With that, he lowered his head and went back to eating.

Seeing Anthony quiet down, Alice felt her ears finally get a bit of peace, but her heart still couldn’t calm down.

She was incredibly on edge, her mind a mess. She wanted to sort things out, but for the moment she just couldn’t.

Because he was worried about Alice, Anthony actually couldn’t focus on his food at all. While eating, he kept sneaking looks up at her, constantly watching for any change in her mood.

After just a few random bites, Anthony put down his chopsticks and straightened up. "Alice, I’m full. Let’s go walk around for a bit."

Once he finished, he didn’t wait for her to respond and immediately stood up.

"You’re really full? Don’t you dare tell me you’re hungry later." Alice glanced at the dishes and bowls on the table. More than half the porridge and shrimp dumplings were still untouched. She figured Anthony, like her, hadn’t really eaten much at all.

"I’m full, let’s go!"

Anthony left his seat and, when he reached her side, reached out and pulled her up from her chair.

"Got it, you little tyrant!"

Alice settled the bill, then left the breakfast shop with Anthony. The moment they stepped outside, she suddenly froze.

Anthony noticed something was wrong and tilted his head, looking at her in confusion. "Alice, what’s up?"

Alice stared blankly at the side of the road. Anthony followed her gaze, but he didn’t see anything at all.

"It’s nothing, let’s go."

Hearing Anthony speak to her snapped Alice back to herself. She slipped her arm through his and strode toward the side of the street.
