Chapter 1855 - 1857: Driven Away in Anger
Enduring her own temper, writing didn’t work, so she switched to something else and started playing the zither. After finishing a piece, she talked a lot about the grand principles of music, then asked Xiaotian, "Sister-in-law, you’ve learned to read with Brother Feng, so you should have also learned to play the zither, right? I’d like to hear you play a piece."
Xiaotian sat there with a slight smile, "Sister-in-law doesn’t know how to play the zither, you’d better play yourself, you play beautifully."
These words gave Jingjing a sense of superiority, and she said in a seemingly condescending manner, "Oh, sister-in-law, young ladies from prominent families like ours all know how to do this, if you go out with Brother Feng like this, you’ll make him lose face since you don’t know anything. No wonder Brother Feng hasn’t taken you out."
After saying this, she continued in an extremely sarcastic tone, "But with your kind of background, you can’t present yourself properly, Brother Feng definitely wouldn’t want to take you out."
The little maids who were serving on the side heard these words and were so angry that they gnashed their teeth, thinking the young master dotes on the young madam, and even if she doesn’t know anything, the young master still likes her.
As for Xiaotian, she didn’t care about what Jingjing said. Years of being a servant had taught her to be patient and not quarrel with others. Besides, sometimes, if you mind too much, you lose.
She just sat there, looking as if time had treated her well, "Sister-in-law doesn’t have the education of Jingjing nor is she clever, even if I tried to learn, I wouldn’t be able to. Jingjing, you know many things and play well, you should play a few more pieces to liven up the courtyard for sister-in-law."
She then instructed the servants, "Go call all the maids and house servants in this courtyard, tell them to stop working, and take this time to rest and appreciate Jingjing’s music."
Upon hearing the first part of Xiaotian’s words, Jingjing lifted her head with a look of triumph, as if to say, see, I’m better. But when she heard the latter part, her face twisted completely, is she making a monkey out of me? Besides, why should she, a lady of the house, play the zither for the servants? Where do they get off?
Jingjing flung her hand, producing a grating sound from the zither, "I’m not playing anymore."
"Not playing anymore? Is Jingjing tired? If you’re tired, quickly head inside and rest." Xiaotian said this while signaling the maid to accompany Jingjing back to her room.
Jingjing’s small chest heaved up and down, she was furious, she never expected this sister-in-law, who seems gentle like water, indifferent to the world, and full of concern in her speech, to be so cunning and difficult to deal with.
Suppressing the wicked fire in her heart, she waved her hand, saying it was nothing, yet she just couldn’t believe this bad luck.
In the time after that, Jingjing caused trouble here or there, growing more and more courageous, engaging in a battle with Xiaotian for three hundred rounds, lasting five whole days, ultimately unable to bear it and leaving the Guo Mansion in anger.
As soon as she left, the entire courtyard burst into cheers.
"Great, she’s finally gone, these past few days were suffocating."
"Right? The young madam is incredible, without doing much, just by casually saying a few words, she made that miss Jingjing jump up and down in anger."
"It’s just that, Miss Jingjing was a guest of the Guo Mansion, is it alright for her to leave like this?"
"The young madam didn’t bully her, she was always polite, it was always Jingjing who started things."
"That’s true, hopefully, madam won’t blame the young madam."
