Chapter 166: Role Switch
Xenia’s expression immediately changed, she reverted back to her annoyed and upset look, which triggered another round of laughter from Jacob.
She backed away and sat back in her seat, facing the window and folding her arms, closing herself off to him.
Leon let out a sigh of relief and returned to his position, resuming the ride. "Thought we lost you there for a second." The carriage rider said, his expression was hearty.
"Oh no no, I just had to close my eyes for a bit." Jacob responded.
Leon did not believe him at all, but he remained silent, he wouldn’t want to question the young master for too long.
Jacob was still thinking about what the Regulator just said, the fate of the world was in his hands? Why him? What about all the other stronger and older cultivators? Were they just sitting around doing nothing.
’What a drag.’ He thought to himself.
But more than that, another thought occupied his mind, every time the Regulator pulled him into the quantum space in such an impromptu manner, his main body was left defenseless, one incident of wrong timing and he could be in serious danger.
He needed to find a way to bypass it.
He looked at Xenia who was still folding her arms. She looked like she was forcing herself to stare outside as the carriage moved.
Jacob sighed, he crossed over to the side where she was sitting and subtly moved his hand to close the hole where Leon communicated through.
Leon noticed but he remained silent as always, whatever the young master and his retainer had to discuss in private was of no concern to him.
Xenia shifted slightly, pressing herself against the wall of the carriage as she looked away from Jacob.
Jacob looked at her for a moment before deciding to speak. "I said I’m sorry."
His words came out with a tiny croak, even he hadn’t expected his voice to crack in this manner.
Xenia remained silent, she was unbelievably good at the silent treatment, and as much as Jacob didn’t want to admit; it drove him crazy.
She only spoke to him now whenever it was absolutely imperative to speak, otherwise, she said nothing.
"How long are you going to keep doing this?" Jacob inquired. He wasn’t annoyed, or angry, he only just wanted her to stop.
"As long as it takes for you to realize you did something wrong." Xenia finally replied, even though it wasn’t the best of responses, it was something.
It gave him the necessary morale he needed to try to cajole her some more.
"Look, I’m sorry, what can I do to make it up to you. I have already promised no more secrets. What else do I have to do. Tell me and it will be done." The young man said. His voice and words were so smooth. If it was any other girl in Xenia’s place in that moment, she would most likely be swayed in an instant.
Xenia appeared to contemplate, Jacob could read every one of her facial expressions and he squeezes his face, for he knew she was about to come up with the most devious thing.
It was certainly a trap he had set for himself, but he felt it was the only way to appease the woman.
Xenia finally appeared to reach a conclusion in her mind. She turned to face him and the next words that proceeded out of her mouth lowers ones that he had never expected.
"How about a role switch?" She asked.
"Role switch?"
"Yes, role switch, we are no longer in the castle, neither are we in the Wutherhorn. As far as I’m concerned, we are just two travelers with an unknown destination." Xenia said, those were t most amount of words that had come out of her mouth at once in the last couple of days.
Jacob already knew what she was driving at, he closed his eyes and waited.
"So how about you be my retainer and I’ll be your master for two days." Xenia concluded with a smile.
’For someone who doesn’t talk much, she’s devious, who knows how long she’s had those thoughts.’ Jacob mused inwardly.
"But.. Xenia.."
"No buts, you said anything, and these are my terms. If you do not like them, then you can kindly let me be and return to your seat." Her words were harsh, but unmistakable. She had a smile on her face now, but it was not the usual warm smile that she always had.
It was one that displayed pure, unbridled mischief. Jacob had no idea Xenia could be this mischievous.
He sighed, there was nothing he could do at this point anymore, he had dug the hole for himself, at least it was just for two days, or so she said.
"Alright alright." He obliged, nodding his head.
"Also, you will call me Lady Xenia, throughout the designated time frame."
As if it was not degrading enough.
"I’m guessing you won’t call me young master for these two days."
"No such thing, I’ll call you Jacob." She said as Jacob finally moved back to his seat.
Even young masters had to be humbled sometimes. Jacob looked at her as she maintained that mischievous smile on her face, it seemed as though she were laughing in her mind.
He had only one thing to do before the time started ticking.
He opened the hole again to speak to Leon. "Leon, set course for the Treant village."
"Treant village. Young master, that is very far away." Leon responded, a very confused expression on his face.
"And that is precisely where I want to go, I don’t mind how many stops we make. But we need to get there as fast as possible, is that understood?" It was his last moments with his authority intact, and he intended to use every last bit of it before it was stripped away for the next two days.
"Young master, it’ll take multiple days to get there." Leon protested again.
"Fine by me." Jacob shut the hole once again and faced Xenia.
He needed to see this World Tree by himself. Xenia also wondered why the young man suddenly wanted to go to the Treant Village, but she would definitely ask soon.
