Chapter 569: [A Society of Secrets] [16] [Wish]
As the sun set and the moon rose in the sky, I sat silently in the main hall.
There wasn’t anything else that I needed to do, so to gain more knowledge, I began to look through the runes I had learned from El.
It had been so long since I learned about them, but I barely used any of these in an actual fight.
’Most of the time, I only use El’s blessing or Amun-Ra’s blessing.’
They were essential to my strength, but I felt like I needed to broaden my horizons.
It was an internal feeling that I couldn’t shake off.
The feeling of uneasiness that I might not be able to use these blessings one day.
I let out a foul breath before putting down the pen in my hand.
Looking at the notes that I had made, I leaned back on the sofa, letting my tense muscles relax.
As I looked through the runes and their uses, I couldn’t help but remember something Inna had said.
’Only a true God can keep his family safe from all the dangers.’
After knowing the threat of the lingering Outer Gods, I felt a clear resonance with those words.
’I need to become a God as quickly as possible.’
Closing the notebook, I thought to myself.
Just as I was about to stand up, the door clicked open and a young woman walked inside.
Zenith snapped out of her dazed state and glanced at me. "...Why are you here?"
"This is my mansion, shorty." I replied with a small smile. "Why can’t I be here?"
"That’s not what I meant." She grumbled, walking closer. "I thought you would be with one of your girls..."
When she said ’girls’, she had a complicated look on her face, as if she wasn’t sure how to react to that.
I kept my smile as the girl walked towards me and sat on the sofa opposite mine.
As I observed the once immature girl, I couldn’t help but notice the changes she had gone through.
She had the confidence, the maturity, and gentleness that I liked.
It’s as if...
[<....She had turned into Yennefer.>]
Inna completed the words that I had hesitated to think.
’The more I look at her, the more I remember her mother.’
Holding back my complex emotions, I looked at the young woman. "How can I help you?"
She frowned at my question, Zenith raised her voice and said, "Can I only be with you if I need something?"
"Well, you usually ran away whenever you saw me." I replied with a chuckle. "Whatever you want must be enough to overcome your bashful side."
"It was the old me who acted like that." She replied hastily. "I don’t act like that now."
"Sure." I replied before repeating my question. "What do you need, Zenny?"
The girl with white and pink hair hesitated for a long while.
After taking a deep breath, she finally said, "Can you fulfill one of my wishes?"
My heart immediately stirred as I understood what she wanted.
"It depends." I replied quietly. "And even if I did, what would I get in return?"
"I will marry you." She replied without a hint of hesitation. "I will be your wife and be with you for eternity."
"That’s not how a deal works." I replied, leaning back slightly. "And don’t act like you don’t want that as well."
Zenith held back, but the blush on her cheeks betrayed her real emotions.
"That was the old me who wanted that." She replied after three seconds of delay. "That girl liked a young boy, not you who already has three fiancées."
[]
’Are you trying to get yourself into my list of fiancées?’
[]
’Just a hunch.’
I focused back on the girl and finally asked, "What do you wish for?"
Zenith remained silent as her gaze slowly turned determined.
"I want someone back from death." She replied softly.
’It’s just as I expected.’
I held back my sigh and said, "Bringing someone back isn’t as easy as that—"
"I know you can do that." She cut in. "You did that with Christina."
"Her case was different." I responded firmly. "There was a goddess who helped me achieve that."
Saying so, I stood and planned to walk out of the conversation.
But Zenith didn’t let me. She quickly walked in front of me and blocked my path.
"What if I become a goddess?" She asked, her tone firm. "If you need a goddess’s help, then I will become one."
I looked into her eyes and found nothing but determination.
She was ready to risk it all just to bring her mother back.
I let out a sigh and replied, "We will have this conversation again once you reach demigod rank."
Zenith hesitated for a few seconds before she nodded. "Alright."
She was just about to turn around but stopped and looked back.
With a snarling face, she grumbled, "Fuck you for playing with a maiden’s heart."
I chuckled and leaned forward. Before she could react, my lips overlapped hers.
Her fingers tightened slightly, but she didn’t push me away.
A surge of heat rushed to her face as she immediately stepped back.
"...W-what are you doing?!"
Her voice cracked between anger and something she clearly didn’t want to admit.
I looked at her calmly, as if nothing had happened.
"You said ’fuck you,’" I replied lightly. "I thought I’d take it literally."
"That’s not—!" She stopped mid-sentence, completely flustered.
She stomped her feet and walked away in a rush.
[]
My lips twitched at her words.
’We both know I did nothing wrong.’
For most of my life, I had always been on the receiving side of it.
Most of the time, the girls had to push themselves on me before I accepted them.
’And I know for sure that it’s a wrong approach.’
Because of my passiveness, there might come a time when my own wives would begin to loathe each other.
It’s best if I take the reins of the family before things get out of hand.
’Though, I still don’t know how to keep them in check.’
I rubbed my temples as I felt a headache coming.
Ignoring it, I began to return to my room on the second floor.
Opening the door, I walked in and was pleasantly surprised to find Christina inside.
She was wearing a deep red nightgown made of silk, the dress making her curves even more pleasing to look at.
"I thought you would sleep with your friends." I said, making her look at me. "How are you here?"
"I got bored," she said softly. "And... I wanted to see you."
She closed the book in her hand and placed it aside.
"Did something happen?"
I walked further inside the room and shut the door behind me.
"I’m just feeling anxious."
For a moment, silence settled between us.
Then her eyes shifted slightly, observing me more carefully.
I let out a sigh and said, "I talked with Zenith."
She raised her brow. "Something to take note of?"
"She’s terrible at hiding things." I replied. "Her face gives everything away."
She let out a soft chuckle and nodded in agreement.
"She asked me to bring her mother back."
Christina didn’t react immediately, she just lowered her gaze slightly.
"...I see."
She didn’t ask any further questions and I didn’t explain anything else.
Just as I sat down on the bed, I couldn’t help but frown when I noticed the markings slowly appearing on her body.
Her face and entire body were now glowing in a golden hue as her hair and eyes turned golden.
I frowned at the sudden change.
"It’s happening a lot." Christina replied with a soft sigh. "At random times, I activate my Avatar blessing without even thinking."
"So much divinity is harmful for you." I replied, not hiding my concern. "What the hell is ’She’ thinking, transferring so much divinity?"
Christina didn’t reply as she let out a small sigh.
"...I don’t know."
Before I could respond, we both heard a banging sound.
It was like someone was repeatedly slamming their fist on a drum.
"Did you...."
I nodded as my gaze shifted towards the sky.
The night sky trembled again and again.
It was the sky being hammered from the other side.....
