Chapter 572: [A Society of Secrets] [19] [Abaddon and Secrets]
But when he turned, the Angel of the Abyss was no longer on the throne.
Subconsciously, he looked up into the sky and met a pair of cold, hollow eyes.
When Oliver realised that Abaddon had woken up, his heart tightened.
The hollow eyes of the Angel of the Abyss made him feel like he was staring into the abyss itself.
Without hesitation, he tried to use teleportation to move towards Aimar, who was below the staircase.
His body began to fade like an illusion, but the next second, he felt an invasion within the space itself.
It was like a rotting puddle of water had covered the space around him, blocking his path.
At the same time, the Angel of the Abyss raised his hand and pointed at him.
A shadowy power condensed in his hand that looked like a mixture of the darkest black and bloodiest scarlet.
Oliver turned and jumped off the staircase immediately as the condensed beam hit where he had stood.
BOOM!!!
Oliver turned around at the sound of the explosion only to find a huge crater where the staircase once stood.
’Fuck...’
He quickly adjusted his stance and Aimar arrived beside him.
"Teleportation isn’t working!"
"I can feel that."
Aimar glanced up at the suspended angel, who wasn’t moving. "What should we do?"
The roaring sound from before grew louder, and they could faintly hear the sound of footsteps.
Oliver drew in a deep breath and said, "We only need a drop of blood."
Aimar’s eyes constricted. "What!?"
Oliver summoned his book, whose pages kept flipping. He brought out a chain as thick as his hand.
"I will distract him," Oliver said as the Angel began to move again. "I can also injure him. Find the chance to collect his blood."
"You son of a bitch—!"
Oliver ignored him and rushed towards the Angel of the Abyss.
From the previous attack, Oliver could determine that the Angel was still asleep.
The one fighting them was the last defence mechanism that the Angel might have prepared.
A type of auto-defence system that would stop assassins from approaching him.
He used the Cloak of Concealment and hid his body as he jumped.
Aimar gritted his teeth as he watched Oliver rush forward like a lunatic.
"...I really hate this bastard."
But even while cursing him, Aimar moved immediately.
His body blurred as he dashed across the broken ground just as another beam descended from the sky.
BOOM!!
The reddish landscape exploded apart behind him.
Chunks of rock and burning debris flew in every direction while the pressure emitted from Abaddon only grew heavier.
Aimar looked up briefly, and his scalp turned numb.
The Angel of the Abyss was no longer standing still.
The giant skeletal wings behind his body had partially opened, revealing endless darkness beneath the rotten flesh.
His hollow eyes remained locked onto Oliver despite the concealment.
The chain Oliver summoned rattled violently as he swung it upwards.
"Bind."
The chain shot through the sky like a living serpent.
It wrapped around Abaddon’s arm in an instant before the runes carved on the chain ignited.
The Angel of the Abyss stopped and tilted his head.
Oliver’s face immediately paled.
"Fucking hell..."
His feet dug deep into the ground as he tried to pull the chain down.
The veins on his neck bulged violently while the book floating beside him flipped pages on its own.
The chain trembled like it was about to snap apart at any second.
Abaddon gently extended his hand and touched the chain with his fingers.
In an instant, the chains began to rot and turned blackish-red. With a gentle yank, Abaddon stole the chain from Oliver.
’What?’
Oliver looked blankly as his chain wrapped around Abaddon’s hand like a loving serpent.
[Abaddon rules over the concept of Abyss and chains.]
’Why did you not tell me before!?’
[I have told you multiple times.]
Oliver grumbled inwardly and quickly stepped away when Abaddon used the chain as a whip.
The ground began to melt when the chain came into contact with it.
Someone who ruled over the concept of an object stood at the pinnacle. The object would always heed their command.
Oliver barely managed to dodge as the corrupted chain tore through the landscape again.
BOOOOOOM!!!
The reddish ground split apart like paper while blackish scarlet corrosion spread everywhere the chain touched.
Oliver skidded backwards, breathing heavily.
"...This is bullshit."
The Angel of the Abyss slowly floated in the sky, his hollow gaze devoid of any emotion.
His gaze shifted towards Aimar, who was waiting for an opportunity to attack.
Abaddon’s body blurred like motion too quick to record.
The skeletal fingers grabbed toward Aimar with horrifying speed.
Aimar twisted his body mid-air and barely avoided getting caught.
But the pressure emitted from the hand alone tore apart his shoulder.
"Tch—!"
He crashed into the ground and rolled several times before stopping himself.
His injured shoulder healed slowly under his regeneration, but his face still turned ugly.
’Just the pressure injured me?’
That single realization made his chest heavy.
This wasn’t a battle they were supposed to fight.
An Angel who had reached the pinnacle of demigod rank wasn’t something he could deal with.
It was like two ants trying to steal from a sleeping dragon.
The difference in existence itself was absurd.
Above them, the Angel of the Abyss slowly lowered his hand again.
Oliver wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and forced himself to calm down.
’Think... think... there has to be a way.’
The roaring footsteps from before grew even closer.
The demigod guardians were returning.
If they got surrounded there, then they were truly finished.
As he racked his brain, Oliver heard the tired sigh of his goddess.
[Just use Adam’s Aura.]
He frowned. ’Wha—why?’
[Just use it.]
Oliver steeled his resolve and let the suppressed side of him flow out.
In an instant, a holy light began to radiate from his body. His eyes turned genial, filled with innocence and purity.
The light from his body made the gloomy red terrain feel like an oasis.
The suspended body of the Angel of the Abyss slowly turned to look at him.
His eyes, which had been hollow all this time, began to show signs of change.
The throne that he had destroyed along with the staircase began to rearrange itself back into reality.
Once the throne was restored, his body slowly moved back and sat down.
With half of his face still filled with bones, the Angel of the Abyss’ eyes began to move.
Without his lips moving, his voice echoed within the minds of Oliver and Aimar;
"You have gotten weaker than an average general in your army."
It wasn’t clear who he was speaking to, but both of them felt a little ashamed.
Oliver gathered his thoughts and said, "Abaddon...."
"Adam," the illusory voice replied. "It’s good to see you alive... or a part of you."
Abaddon waited for a few seconds before he continued. "I heard what Samyaza did to you and your family. His cowardice knows no bounds."
Oliver looked at the Angel. He felt an explicit anger that wasn’t his, but at the same time, it was.
Taking in a deep breath, he asked, "Why did Samyaza want me dead?"
He had asked this question to Lilith before, but the Mother of Demons had always answered in a roundabout way.
Abaddon’s illusory voice echoed in his head.
"After Azrael’s ’death’, Adam was the biggest problem in his quest to revive the Creator God. Your nature and your potential to reach godhood always kept him on edge."
Oliver frowned at his words. "He is trying to awaken the Creator God?"
"Every Angel made by ’him’ is trying to awaken him, even if subconsciously," Abaddon replied with certainty.
"Samyaza is just doing it in his own accord."
Oliver couldn’t understand the motive behind his actions. He wanted to ask more but stopped himself.
He didn’t want anything to shake his resolve to kill Samyaza.
’But I never wanted to kill him.’ Oliver thought confusingly at the weird phenomenon.
Aimar was silently observing him, and his face had a complicated look.
Abaddon looked up at the sky and said in a deep voice, "The seal is about to break."
His head turned to look at Aimar. "He will try to seize your body soon."
Aimar immediately understood who "he" was... the Son of Isis—Horus.
Taking in a deep breath, he asked, "What should I do to stop him?"
"Seek the help of Amun-Ra." Abaddon replied. "Who is also Azrael?"
His words confused the rest, and even Abaddon’s voice carried a hint of confusion.
Oliver, who was still struggling with the lingering urge to kill Samyaza, heard the sigh of the Angel of the Abyss.
"He is also nearby..."
His voice was misty, sad, angered, and even happy.
Oliver frowned and asked, "Who?"
"The King of all dragons, the Executioner of the Creator God," his illusory voice echoed. "Morningstar."
Oliver felt his heart palpitate, though he couldn’t determine the source of it.
Abaddon’s gaze shifted towards Oliver.
"Help ’him’ escape this predicament. He is your only hope for salvation."
Oliver had an inclining feeling that the ’him’ he was talking about was Azariah.
He nodded his head and asked, "Can I get a drop of your blood?"
Abaddon looked at him quietly without a word. He extended his hand, and a drop of blackish-red blood appeared in front of them.
Oliver used the container he brought to store the blood and looked at Abaddon.
He bowed his head slightly. "I sincerely apologise for disturbing your sleep."
Abaddon didn’t speak as his gaze began to change into something deeper.
He remained seated on his throne and kept his silence.
After a few seconds, his voice echoed in their heads. "Be cautious of Outer Gods and their link with E.C.T.O."
Oliver frowned. He knew about E.C.T.O; it was the most prominent organization when it came to intel gathering and information distribution.
’But didn’t the organization only become famous recently?’ he thought to himself. ’How does he know about it?’
As if hearing his inner thoughts, Abaddon replied.
"You do not understand the depth of that organization and their impact." His voice began to die out. "They will become the centre of the world once again."
His voice faded as his eyes lost focus and closed.
Oliver felt the restriction on teleportation vanish.
He didn’t hesitate to rush out of the place along with Aimar.
