Chapter 567: [A Society of Secrets] [14] [Life]
[The Next Day]
As the sun’s gentle light hit my face, my eyes groggily opened.
I turned my head away from the light, but my sleep was already disturbed.
’....’
Slowly, all the things that I did with Nymeria came to my mind like a movie.
’I have done it....’ I groaned inwardly. ’I fucked another girl.’
Shifting my focus, I turned to my side but didn’t find Nymeria.
It was a common occurrence for me before my mansion became crowded.
Nymeria always used to wake up earlier than me and make breakfast.
’Though, the taste was a whole another thing...’
I chuckled to myself and got off the bed that still carried a visible scent of allure, even though I had changed the bedsheet before sleeping.
Not thinking too much about it, I walked toward the bathroom and got myself a cold shower.
When I walked out of the shower, a set of clothes had already been placed on the bed.
I dressed myself in a black shirt and baggy grey pants before I walked out of the room.
The maids greeted me with their usual smiles while I just gave them a gentle nod.
When I arrived at the main hall, the place was already crowded.
Christina, Zenith, Epione, and Nymeria were all sitting on the L-shaped sofa.
They turned quiet when they noticed my arrival.
"Good morning~." Christina greeted me with a smile as she stood up.
On the other side, Nymeria also stood up and walked toward me.
She moved faster and reached me first as she gently fixed my buttons.
Christina kept staring at her with a not-so-happy smile.
"You look great." Nymeria said calmly before giving me a gentle peck on my cheek. "I will get you something to eat~."
She quickly left the place before anyone could stop her.
Christina, who was looking from the side, quietly walked forward.
With a thin smile she whispered, "We need to fix the mess we call this relationship."
I nodded my head as I wasn’t going to deny that we were in a mess.
"What should I do?" I asked, hoping for any good suggestions.
Christina smiled and said gently, "It’s for you to decide."
While she spoke, I noticed something she might have done subconsciously or consciously.
....Christina had gently rubbed her ring finger.
She walked toward the sofa and I also found a place to sit down calmly, though my mind wasn’t calm at all.
’...Should I propose to her?’
The answer was obvious without much thinking.
Since I was a child we had been engaged, but it was broken when she ’died.’
Even though she was back now, her status as my fiancée had already been taken.
’But why only propose...?’ I thought to myself. ’We are already old enough to get married.’
Had it not been for all my enemies, especially my mom, I would have already married her.
But the threat of my enemies doesn’t mean I can delay the marriage for too long.
’Marriage, huh....’
I couldn’t help but glance at Zenith, who was talking with Christina.
’Should I ask her when Christina and I got married? With her power as [Oracle of Future] she must already know it.’
Zenith noticed my gaze and tilted her head. "What?"
"Nothing." I replied, leaning back on the sofa as I glanced at Epione. "Have you learned the technique I gave you?"
The girl gave an apologetic smile. "Give me a few more days."
I nodded my head as Nymeria walked in with a tray full of food.
She placed it on the table and from my peripheral vision, I saw Christina move and sit on my right.
On the other side, I saw Nymeria sit on my left side.
They both tore a little piece of the omelette and brought it toward my face.
"Open your mouth~."
"Say ahh~."
"...."
Squeezed in between, I sat there unsure how to respond to such care.
[]
I heard Inna’s voice in my head once again.
’Shut up.’
Opening my mouth, I took the bite from both their hands simultaneously.
---
After being done with my stuff, I moved out of my mansion and immediately rushed toward the Arisha Kingdom.
The thing with Elijah had always been bugging me, so I decided to check out his progress.
Though, I wanted to talk about the Avatar thing with Christina and Nymeria, but given their competitiveness, I decided to postpone it.
’I should really be careful so their cat fight doesn’t turn into something lethal.’
As much as I loved them, I also knew how incredibly jealous they could be.
They would kill someone and wouldn’t feel a single thing.
The only thing binding them together was their love for me.
’And I definitely don’t want them to fight each other in my absence.’
[]
My lips twitched as I moved in the open sky of the Vendrick Continent.
’Is your only job now making comments?’ I scolded the goddess of beauty.
Inna turned silent for a long second before she replied.
[]
My expression immediately turned serious as I thought about her words.
’...To figure myself out, huh?’
I understood what she was trying to say.
Despite how I act, I try my best to hide my true self.
There were layers upon layers of different faces in my personality.
I am a sadistic killer and I am also a coward afraid of losing my lovers.
I hate my mother but I also want to someday be a better version of her.
I hate killing innocents but I can’t count how many innocents have died because of me.
’....I really am a hypocritical and paradoxical person.’
I thought with a self-deprecating smile on my face.
’But how do I know which self of mine is me in the truest form?’
There was no way of looking into myself and determining it.
I could always lie, but that would not resolve my problem.
’Do I really need to become a God...?’ I grumbled inwardly.
[]
Her voice dimmed as if she was holding back a lot.
[]
I closed my eyes as I gently nodded my head in response.
When I opened my eyes, I was already at the border of the Arisha Kingdom’s capital city.
I was so high in the air that I highly doubted anyone could feel my presence.
’Unless there is a demigod living inside the city...’
I thought to myself before I gently descended toward the ground while folding my wings.
As I got closer to the city, I couldn’t help but notice the big monument-like structures placed around it.
They were like arches that covered some part of the city while the rest was getting buried underground.
The arches also had runes all over them as if they were made for something special.
When I gave those runes a clear look, I noticed how similar they looked.
’I think I saw it before...’
An image flashed past my mind.
’It’s similar to the runes Panta, the member of the Saintess Cathedral Church, provided.’
I finally landed on the ground while unnoticed by anyone around me.
Using a robe to cover my body, I began to walk slowly through the lifeless streets of the city.
The place reeked of poverty and famine like a drought had taken all their food.
People walked with their shoulders bent as if they were trying to hide from the patrols roaming around the city.
At every intersection, there were dead bodies hanging or the heads of werewolves displayed as trophies.
’What have you done to this kingdom, Amaury....’
I let out a sigh before I focused back on the task at hand.
Taking a deep breath, I let my mana resonate with the atmosphere as it covered the entire place.
I frowned when I didn’t notice the mana signature emitted by Elijah.
’Wait, is that Heather?’
I wondered when I found her mana signature hiding in an old worn-out house.
When I was about to stop my search and look for Heather, I noticed something amiss.
In one of the empty warehouses, I found the outline of a young man that was without any mana.
I immediately thought, ’Elijah...’
Taking in a deep breath, I began to walk toward the warehouse.
There was a high chance that it might be a trap, so I was circulating my mana along with Ruah in case I needed it.
When I reached the warehouse, I opened the door, which was surprisingly without a lock.
Walking inside, I found a boy slumped on the side with his hands and legs tied with chains.
"Elijah?" I called, rushing toward him.
The boy looked up at me as light returned to his eyes. "Himmel?"
"What happened to you?" I asked, before I looked at the runes on the chains. "Who did this?"
"Jones." He replied grimly. "He is behind Amaury’s sudden rise."
When I made sure breaking the chains wouldn’t harm him, I grabbed them tightly.
"We will talk once we are out—."
"No, you will not."
A voice cut me off, a rather familiar voice.
I glanced back and found a man standing there with a smile.
"...Uncle."
