Chapter 539: It’s Me or It, You Choose
The mother and son were in the middle of a happy play session when Leona Grant’s sudden roar gave them both a huge fright!
"WOOF WOOF WOOF!" Stuart barked a few times at Leona Grant.
Annabelle Linton looked at her frightened dog, then frowned at Leona and said with displeasure, "What do you think you’re doing?"
After speaking, she quickly turned to soothe the dog, stroking Stuart’s back—the very picture of a gentle, doting wife and mother!
"What do you mean, ’what am I doing’? It’s you!"
With a dark expression, Leona Grant pointed at Stuart in Annabelle Linton’s arms. "Why did you bring him home? And you’re even holding him!"
"He’s my son." Annabelle Linton had no idea why he was suddenly acting so crazy; it was completely baffling. "What’s wrong with you?"
Seeing her completely clueless expression made his chest ache with anger.
’She doesn’t even know why I’m angry!’
"I’m allergic to dogs. Send him away!" Leona Grant ordered irritably.
Annabelle Linton was left speechless.
’Stuart just came back from the pet center today, for crying out loud.’
’You could tell the little guy had been going stir-crazy in there from the way he was looking all around, curious about everything.’
’How could I possibly send him back again?’
This was non-negotiable. Annabelle Linton looked at the dog in her arms, stroking his head. "Then you just keep your distance from him."
’Keep my distance from *him*?’
’Why?’
’This is my home with Annabelle Linton, isn’t it? What’s an outsider like him doing here?’
"No!" Leona Grant’s face was grim as he looked at Annabelle Linton, his expression just as unyielding. "The moment I see that kind of creature, I feel my allergies flare up. I get dizzy, nauseous, and start shaking. I absolutely cannot tolerate him in this house. You have to send him away!"
Annabelle Linton: "..."
"Or, you can give him to me. I’ll send him to the best pet center abroad, where he’ll be treated better than most people!"
’Ah, whatever. For the sake of the time he spent with my wife, I don’t have to be too cruel. Just sending him far, far away should be good enough.’
At this thought, Leona Grant felt the urge to have a cigarette and contemplate his life.
’How can I be so kind?’
Annabelle Linton frowned. ’Dizzy, nauseous, and shaking just from the sight of him?’
’Does that mean he faints every time he sees a dog on the street?’
Her attitude was just as firm, and she refused to back down. "Send him away? Absolutely not. I won’t agree to it. Leona Grant, do you have any idea how many years he’s been with me?"
"Then how did you manage these past two years without him around?"
Leona Grant couldn’t help but sneer.
’This little beast she raised with Aaron Wyatt dares to come here and run wild in my presence?’
’I should just kick it to death!’
’Excuse me, am I supposed to be a doormat? Am I just going to tolerate a love token from my wife’s ex-boyfriend???’
’Oh, right. I’d almost forgotten. That damn woman Annabelle Linton almost married Aaron Wyatt!’
’So why is she keeping this damn dog around now?’
’To remember him by it?’
’Trying to keep the connection alive?’
’So when she misses him, she can just look at the dog, as if Aaron Wyatt were standing right in front of her?’
Leona Grant suddenly pictured a scene in his mind: Aaron Wyatt gently stroking Annabelle Linton’s head, holding Stuart in his arms, and saying to her, "Annabelle, look. Our son has gotten so much bigger lately."
NO!
’If I can tolerate being made into a Grevain Steppe like this, can I still call myself her rightful husband?’
’No. I’ll indulge her in anything else, but this dog is the one thing I absolutely cannot tolerate!’
Leona Grant’s expression was foul. He glared at Stuart with utter disdain and snapped, "It’s him or me. You choose!"
Annabelle Linton looked at him, her patience wearing thin. She had no idea about the whirlwind of thoughts in his head; she just thought he was being difficult and picky.
She said with dissatisfaction, "I need to spend quality time with him *precisely because* I had to leave him alone for two years. You’re being completely unreasonable."
