Chapter 540: You Just Don’t Love Me
Making a scene?
Leona Grant stared at her in disbelief. ’She’s actually saying I’m making a scene?’
’So I’m making a scene just because I won’t tolerate a memento from her and Aaron Wyatt?’
His face darkened as he roared at her, "I knew you weren’t over Aaron Wyatt!"
Annabelle Linton: "..."
’What is he even talking about?’
Annabelle Linton rubbed her forehead, speechless. "What does this have to do with Aaron Wyatt?"
"How could it not have anything to do with him?"
Leona Grant’s expression grew even darker. "That’s the damn animal you and he raised. Now you’ve brought it into our home, ignored me because of it, and are even fighting with me over it. You’re going to all this trouble because, subconsciously, you can’t forget Aaron Wyatt!"
"..."
’I really didn’t think it was that deep.’
Annabelle Linton was at a loss for words. ’How can this man be so childish?’
She said helplessly, "You’re really overthinking this. Stuart is just a dog. You can just see it as me wanting a pet."
"Then get a different one. We’ll raise it together. If you want a dog, fine, let’s get a dog. Just get a different one. A Schnauzer, a pit bull, a shepherd—any of those would be fine."
He even added, "I’ve already picked out a name. We’ll just call him Grant."
"..." ’This lunatic.’ "But I’m attached to Stuart."
Leona Grant said self-righteously, without batting an eye, "I’m allergic to him. I get dizzy, nauseous, and start trembling whenever I see him."
Annabelle Linton: "..."
’He’s allergic to dogs, but it’s breed-specific?’
Seeing that she was silent, Leona Grant continued to coax her. "We can raise one together, for the rest of our lives. How about it?"
Annabelle Linton was finally starting to understand.
’He’s always been convinced I’m still involved with Aaron Wyatt.’
’I’ve already explained it to him a million times, but he still doesn’t believe me. What’s the point in explaining it again?’
’The problem isn’t the dog—it’s him!’
Annabelle Linton was naturally reserved and didn’t like to explain herself. Explaining things to Leona Grant for this long was already pushing her to her limit.
She looked at him, exasperated, and said, "I have nothing more to say. I am not getting rid of the dog. If you can live with him, then fine. If you can’t, then you two can just keep your distance from each other."
With that, Annabelle Linton held Stuart and walked away.
’This isn’t about who raised him with whom.’ Annabelle Linton swore to herself that she wasn’t keeping the dog because of Aaron Wyatt.
This dog was truly important to her.
When she had been on the verge of depression, Aaron Wyatt had given her this dog, and it helped her recover. In a way, Stuart was her savior.
She didn’t want to abandon Stuart.
’Dogs are so helpless.’
People meet many others in their lifetime, but a dog only has its owner.
Stuart’s owners were her and Aaron Wyatt.
At first, they raised him together. Later, Aaron Wyatt took care of him. Now that Aaron was no longer looking after him, it was her turn.
It was simply a matter of basic responsibility, untangled from her feelings for anyone.
Leona Grant watched her walk away, holding that damn dog, leaving him behind. His face was a thundercloud as he yelled in a rage, "You just don’t like me! You don’t love me! If you loved me, how could you choose some damn dog over me? In your heart, your own husband is worth less than a damn dog, isn’t that right? You..."
Leona Grant was still yelling, but Annabelle Linton had already turned the corner, the dog in her arms.
Just before she disappeared, the dog seemed to stick its tongue out at him smugly. Leona Grant was so furious he could have killed someone.
’That damn woman! She said she’d give me a chance. Is this what she meant?’
Leona Grant stood there, heartbroken for a moment, before heading out the door again.
’On this, I will not back down!’
...
He fumed until ten o’clock that night.
When Leona Grant returned, the entire villa was shrouded in darkness.
He’d had a bit to drink tonight, and his steps were unsteady as he made his way upstairs.
He opened the bedroom door to find Annabelle Linton in a nightgown, leaning against the headboard and reading a book.
Seeing him, she frowned and walked over. "Have you been drinking?"
