Chapter 496: It’s Probably Because I’m With You
Annabelle wasn’t picky about food. As long as it was clean and low in calories, she was fine with it.
’I’ll just make some simple noodles.’
She tied on an apron, took out the ingredients to wash them, and then started chopping vegetables.
Leona Grant watched, a little stunned, as she glanced at the pot to see if the water was boiling, then chopped the vegetables with a rapid CHOP-CHOP-CHOP, not even looking down at the cutting board.
’Won’t she cut her hand like that?’
But she wouldn’t.
For someone who knows how to cook, knife skills are the first lesson.
Once the water boiled, Annabelle Linton added enough noodles for two people. After they were cooked, she strained them.
Then, she quickly prepared two noodle dishes. As a final touch, she sprinkled a circle of finely chopped green onions on top. The fresh colors made the bowls look incredibly appetizing.
She had made it in less than ten minutes, while he had spent all morning making that... thing.
Standing in the doorway, Leona Grant watched her bustle about, his heart suddenly filled with an indescribable warmth.
It was a warm, sweet, and slightly tart feeling.
All in all, it was a whirlwind of emotions.
"Aren’t you going to eat?" Annabelle finished tidying the kitchen utensils and walked over, raising an eyebrow when she saw him lost in thought.
"I am." Leona Grant came back to his senses and went to get the noodles.
But the freshly made meal was incredibly hot. Leona Grant, not thinking, tried to pick up the bowl with his bare hands and winced at the heat.
"So clumsy."
Annabelle glanced at him and muttered disdainfully. She then grabbed a tray, placed both bowls on it, and started walking out.
’Clumsy?’
No one had ever called him clumsy before. He never thought he’d hear it from a woman, of all people.
Still, the corners of Leona Grant’s mouth lifted into a smile.
’If life could be like this forever,’ he thought, ’with me being clumsy and her willing to look after me... that would be a wonderful thing.’
The two sat down for breakfast. After just one bite, Leona Grant thought, ’This is delicious!’
He smiled, pressing his lips together, and looked at Annabelle Linton with open admiration.
Annabelle Linton looked up and watched him calmly for a moment, her expression turning suspicious. "What are you up to?"
Leona Grant: "..."
’It’s impossible to have a normal conversation with this woman...’
Leona Grant smiled faintly and looked at her sincerely. "It’s delicious."
Annabelle kept her head down, eating, not believing him at all. She said coolly, "If I remember correctly, you’ve never said that even when faced with gourmet delicacies."
"It’s the truth. It’s especially delicious. The best noodles I’ve ever had." Leona Grant continued to look at her with a grin, seeming very good-natured.
Annabelle Linton put down her chopsticks, stared at him expressionlessly for a moment, and asked in confusion, "Why do you keep smiling?"
’He wasn’t one to smile,’ she recalled. ’He was always so cold and aloof. In my previous life, I never once saw him give a genuine smile.’
Hearing this question, Leona Grant was also a bit puzzled. He hadn’t even realized he’d been smiling the whole time.
He lowered his gaze, the corners of his mouth lifting again. He said softly, "It’s probably because I’m with you."
A strange emotion flashed through Annabelle Linton’s heart, then quickly vanished.
"Oh."
She picked up her chopsticks again, lowered her head, and started eating without another word.
Leona Grant smiled, let his gaze drift away from her, and also began to eat.
He didn’t know why, but just seeing her inexplicably brightened his mood.
...
The morning got off to a good start, so in the afternoon, they struck while the iron was hot and went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to remarry.
The last time they were here, it was for a divorce. This time, it was to remarry.
Same place, different mood.
Leona Grant subconsciously glanced toward the divorce window. That lady wasn’t there today.
’Please don’t let her show up.’
’If she starts trouble again, I really won’t be able to take it.’
’Really, this is just asking for trouble. We could have just filled out an agreement, but no, we had to make a trip all the way here.’
His reasoning: They had to pick things up right where they’d left off.
Annabelle Linton was speechless.
’Fine, go ahead and be dramatic.’
