Annabelle Linton had been taken until she passed out, only to wake and pass out again...

It wasn’t until the first light of dawn broke in the east that the couple on the bed finally drew to a close.

Lying naked on the bed, Leona Grant held her in his arms as she slept the sleep of the dead, placing soft kisses on her.

’It felt so good, being able to watch her sleep beside me, completely unguarded and without a trace of caution.’

Leona Grant couldn’t resist kissing her again.

Her forehead, her eyes, her nose, her lips... he kissed them one by one.

Annabelle Linton must have been utterly exhausted. Her long hair, damp with sweat, was fanned out across the pristine white sheets. But even in sleep, nothing could erase the subtle distance in her expression.

"Leona Grant... be gentle... gentler..." Annabelle Linton mumbled in her sleep, her brows furrowed.

Leona Grant couldn’t help but let out a laugh.

"Silly girl."

He couldn’t resist kissing her again.

’She’d said my name. What a great way to start the morning.’

He loved the way his name sounded coming from her lips.

It was like the rich aroma of dark and white chocolate swirled together—not cloyingly sweet, but a flavor that seeped deep into your very bones.

In truth, Annabelle Linton had always held an inexplicable power over Leona Grant.

No matter how long they were together, the moment he saw her, he felt a sense of peace, a profound sense of security.

Being with her could feel as comfortable as an old married couple, yet it could also make his heart flutter like a young couple in the throes of first love.

In short: when he couldn’t see her, he missed her; when he saw her, he wanted to hold her; when he held her, he wanted to kiss her; when he kissed her, he wanted to sleep with her; and after sleeping with her... he wanted her for a lifetime.

Leona Grant gently stroked her hair and pulled her closer into his arms. "Annabelle... This time, it’s my turn to be the one who gives. Let’s stay like this forever from now on, okay?"

"..."

"Sleep well."

"..."

Annabelle Linton reached up to pinch the space between her brows as if her head ached, then rolled over, wrapped her arms around him, and snuggled into a comfortable position in his embrace before falling back asleep.

Leona Grant froze for a moment before gently stroking her head. He hugged her back and closed his eyes.

’With a wife like this, what more could a husband ask for?’

...

He slept all the way until the afternoon.

Leona Grant had a dream.

He dreamed that everything from the previous night had been a lie, that Annabelle Linton was just deceiving him.

She didn’t want to be with him; just as he’d suspected, she was only getting her revenge.

In the dream, they had been living happily together for a long, long time, spending every day with each other.

But then one day, she suddenly vanished. No word, not a single trace, as if she had simply evaporated into thin air.

He searched for her desperately, but she was nowhere to be found.

In fact, Leona Grant had had a similar dream right after their divorce. Annabelle Linton was just like that—just when he thought she would never leave, she would suddenly vanish.

Drenched in a cold sweat, Leona Grant bolted awake.

He whipped his head to the side. The other half of the bed was empty. He was all alone in the enormous bed. The sheets beside him were smooth, without even a wrinkle, and had long since grown cold, devoid of any human warmth.

The color drained from Leona Grant’s face. He shot bolt upright, scrambled out of bed, and snatched a bathrobe as he headed out of the room.

The master bathroom, the guest washroom, the balcony, the kitchen, the home gym—there was no sign of her anywhere.

He panicked. He was about to call for a maid to ask where she’d gone when he remembered he’d given all the staff the day off.

"Damn it!"

Leona Grant shouted anxiously, "Annabelle Linton! Annabelle, where are you?"

"Annabelle Linton!"

"Stuart, quiet! You’re splashing water all over Mommy!"

Just as Leona Grant was searching, Annabelle Linton’s voice drifted over from a distance.

He hurried toward the sound.

Stuart had been in Celestia for some time now. He’d been boarded at a pet center for most of that time, so he could now understand some simple Celestian.
