Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 475: Hiding The Truth

Now, nothing could be seen and even sound was isolated.

"What do you mean?" Leng Pan turned to Lu Zhen.

It wasn’t that she didn’t like him having the space, it was just too sudden.

Moreover, she had never heard of anyone awakening a second superpower so far into the apocalypse. Unless it was a special opportunity and she didn’t think that Lu Zhen had gone anywhere where he could come across a special opportunity.

"It was a special stone I got from an acquaintance. It looked a lot like a crystal core so I tried to absorb it and I succeeded. Except, instead of giving me energy like crystal cores usually do, it gave me an extra space. The space isn’t big compared to yours. It’s the size of one and a half basketball courts. So, when you need to take things out of the space in the future, I can cover for you." Lu Zhen explained with a smile.

He chose not to tell the truth about where the space came from because it was better if his beloved wife didn’t know about it.

Moreover, it wouldn’t change anything anyway.

Hearing what he said, Leng Pan was overjoyed. Now, when Lu Zhen found something, he didn’t have to specifically wait until she was available to collect it. He could do it himself.

"That’s great. Congratulations." She congratulated happily.

"It’s nothing. Now, can we keep moving? Those behind us are probably wondering if we got attacked." Lu Zhen suddenly laughed helplessly.

When he told his wife about the space, he hadn’t expected her reaction to be so exaggerated.

But he was glad she didn’t ask too many questions and just accepted his explanation.

"Oh! Alright." Leng Pan came back to her senses and turned to drive forward.

She also dissipated the must barrier around the car exposing it to the others.

However, only at this moment did she see the scene in front of her.

While the base seemed to have beef protected by some power, the outside was a different case.

From two hundred meters outside the base, it was a scene of destruction.

Buildings had crumbled to dust. Not a single blade of grass had survived. And as far as the eye could see, there was not an intact brick sitting on top of another.

The scene her mother-in-law had spoken of could be seen very clearly here.

What about the other survivor bases? She wondered to herself.

Luckily, after getting information from Li Yunjia, they had used the same old method to anonymously send a message out with information of the coming disaster.

And after this message was sent more than twice and every time it was proven accurate, more people took it seriously.

So, when a suggestion said that they should build underground shelters, they didn’t question it and immediately got to work.

With earth and metal ability users present, underground shelters sprung up in different locations across the country.

Hence, many people survived.

However, there were still those who remained skeptical and chose to ignore this massage.

But such bases were the small private-owned ones without many people.

Unfortunately, such bases were the first to fall in the first wave of locusts.

After driving for about a hundred meters, Leng Pan realized that the roads they had painstakingly cleared were now filled with debris from broken buildings and others had plain been gnawed into pits.

They had to start the work of clearing and repairing roads again.

But at least they were alive. So, that was what mattered.

Seeing that they couldn’t keep driving, both of them got out of the car and Lu Zhen used his space in public for the first time.

He waved his hand and the car disappeared.

He did it so openly so that those behind them could see him.

This way, they would know that he had a space.

In that case, even if Leng Pan took something out or stored something in the future, everyone would just think it was Lu Zhen who did it.

Leng Pan understood his intentions and she didn’t stop him.

Even though she wasn’t afraid of others finding out about her space now, it was true that her space was different and it could arouse greed even in those who don’t care about spatial abilities.

With the world becoming so devastated, if she was discovered to have a space that could grow food, she couldn’t be sure that she wouldn’t turn into a walking target that everyone wanted to eliminate to seize it.

So, having Lu Zhen cover for her with a regular space was indeed great.

Besides, which woman wouldn’t feel happy about getting protection from her husband?

No matter how strong she was, she still had that longing for protection from her beloved.

If he was a tree she could lean against when tired, would she complain?

"Alright, let’s go check the situation." Lu Zhen said as he took her hand and walked forward.

"It looks like we are back to square one." Leng Pan sighed.

"Maybe this is not completely a bad thing." Lu Zhen muttered.

"Why?" She asked curiously.

"If everything is not completely destroyed, how would our infrastructure improve? With every building laying in ruin, people will have to think about creating more dwellings that could survive worse disasters. Just like how humans went from living in caves to living in houses. Or how they moved from thatched mud houses to roof tiled stone houses. It was out of necessity by circumstances. Now that circumstances for better and sturdier houses has risen again, wouldn’t humans step up?"

Lu Zhen was truly a businessman through and through.

Where others saw despair, he saw an opportunity.

But Leng Pan had to agree with him. This was indeed an opportunity for humans to move forward.

If humans could come out of this apocalypse unscathed, then their potential would be limitless.

Their growth would also become faster than before with the stimulation from all those disasters happening one after another.
