"Alright, it shouldn’t take long to get there. Let’s rest in that town." Lu Zhen agreed immediately.

He trusted his assistant. So, he didn’t object to his suggestion.

Lu Zhen took the walkie-talkie Lu Tao had modified and spoke to those in the cars behind him.

"We will rest in the town a couple of kilometers ahead. Everyone, be ready."

He didn’t speak much, but everyone understood him.

This was the apocalypse and one could never know what was in front of them.

If something was wrong with the town ahead, they had to be ready to fight. Especially since they couldn’t afford to keep going since the locusts would be upon them soon.

When they were about a hundred meters from the town, Assistant Yao parked the car by the roadside and got out.

He was a speed ability user and since his level had already passed four, his speed was almost akin to teleportation.

Thus, he decided to investigate the town ahead before the others could enter.

Even though Lu Zhen discouraged him, he insisted on doing this not only to practice his skills, but to also avoid complications.

Unable to dissuade him, Lu Zhen let him be.

Thus, Assistant Yao ran towards the town and he was gone in the blink of an eye.

"His speed had indeed increase several folds. It is difficult for anyone to track him now." Leng Pan mused as he watched Yao disappear into the distance.

"Indeed, but it is still inadvisable for him to explore alone. It’s too dangerous." Lu Zhen kept his eyes ahead where his subordinate had disappeared into.

"That’s true, but everyone needs space to grow. Assistant Yao knows this, which is why he seeks to venture ahead alone. He is aware that if he faces danger while you are close, you will protect him immediately. But he wanted to grow stronger through danger and life and death battles as well. He must feel that it is the only way to retain his value." Leng Pan explained.

She understood emotions and sentiments more than her husband. Thus, she could empathize with Assistant Yao.

"Well, I will give him more opportunities in the future. Now that we are traveling, danger might be lurking in every corner, so he needn’t worry about getting opportunities to grow." Lu Zhen also realized that the reason he and Leng Pan were stronger than the rest was because they fought stronger enemies.

Therefore, if the others were to grow, they need to go through the same.

Assistant Yao came back five minutes later with the news that the town was completely abandoned.

There wasn’t a single living being there. However, there were a few zombies.

With this reassurance, the team drove into town.

Assistant Yao not only investigated to make sure there was no danger, but also located a suitable place to park their vehicles and hide.

They arrived at what looked to be a ruin, yet a part of the building was still intact.

One side of the building had been crashed by a meteorite and crumbled, but the other was still intact.

A signboard was half-buried under the rabble, but one could still make out the words.

This was the government office in the town before the apocalypse.

However, it seemed that after the meterorite ruined the office, the officials had either perished, turned into zombies, or relocated.

Because it was a government structure, there was a VIP parking lot attached to the right side of the building.

That part happened to be the side that was still intact.

Even the gate was still functional.

Without delay, Blaze and ZaiZai left the vehicles and went to open the garage or rather, the VIP parking lot.

As soon as th gate was opened, two zombies with dried skin that resembled tree bark and crimson eyes pounced on them immediately.

What shocked everyone was how slow they moved.

They were sluggish and even moving slowly to evade, they couldn’t catch the two.

Without wasting time, the two used their weapons to decapitate the zombies and dug in their heads for crystal cores but found nothing.

This was surprising. It had been over a year since they killed a zombie without a crystal core.

"What exactly is happening? What is wrong with these two zombies?" Lu Tao stepped out of the car and walked over to examine the two corpses.

Those driving first drove the vehicles inside the sealed VIP parking lot before alighting and going back to look at the zombies with the others.

"These zombies seem to have been locked in the garage since the beginning of the apocalypse. They were unable to leave and thus, unable to feed. Therefore, they couldn’t evolve, which explains why they are so weak and have no crystal cores." Leng Pan observed for a moment before speaking.

"Zombies can open and close doors nowadays, but these two were actually starving here because of a door?" ZaiZai asked incredulously.

"Those who can open and close doors are the ones who have evolved. But if they don’t feed to get energy, how can they evolve?" Leng Pan added.

"So, can we find a way to starve all the zombies in the world so that they don’t eat and can become weak?" Janna asked this question, which made the others stop talking for a moment.

Seriously, the zombies had already evolved to the point of almost resembling humans, how could they be starved now? Wasn’t that a joke?

"Ah...did I say something wrong?" Janna seemed to realize that she might have spoken out of turn and asked innocently.

"No, you didn’t say anything wrong. It’s just that, now zombies have already developed intelligence, especially the high-level ones. So, there is no possibility of starving them. We can only find another way to eliminate them completely." Leng Pan patiently explained.

She didn’t blame these kids. After all, they were just teenagers who should be frolicking with their peers, yet they were in a world that showed no mercy.

It wasn’t a bad thing for them to have an overactive imagination.
