Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse

Chapter 480: Catching Locusts

"Oh..." Janna muttered, but it was obvious that she didn’t understand completely. Yet, no one blamed her.

"Let’s settle first and eat. Once the locusts pass, we will investigate this town. Although locusts have cleared everything in their path, it shouldn’t be to the point that the only zombies are these two." Lu Zhen urged the others and the group entered the parking lot then closed the gate once more.

"Something feels even more weird. These locusts eat everything in their path. Not even a whole brick is left wherever they pass. So, why is this garage still intact? And did you all see the buildings behind this office? Even though they lack doors and windows, the structure is still intact. Why is that?" Su Yan suddenly mentioned this.

In fact, both Leng Pan and Lu Zhen had already noticed this, but they stayed quiet to see how vigilant the members of their team were.

It seemed that they weren’t too blind. However, not everyone was vigilant. That needed to change.

"Mhmm....I noticed. It seemed that we will have to investigate this place even deeper. Maybe there is that meterorite we are looking for here that is preserving the structures." Ouyang Jin replied with a thoughtful expression.

"Alright, let’s eat first." Leng Pan interrupted them and with a look to Lu Zhen, he waved his hand and two long tables appeared before everyone. Just as they marveled at this miracle, several dishes appeared on the tables.

In fact, the one who brought out the dishes was Leng Pan since Lu Zhen’s space could not preserve food in their original state.

Thus, she took advantage of when Lu Zhen brought out the tables to present the dishes.

This way, no one would associate the space with her.

The dishes produced were a mixture of the ones stockpiled before the apocalypse and those made by Uncle Li.

Uncle Li’s dishes could restore energy and the newly cooked ones only needed a few bites to recover spiritual power.

Thus, these were not brought out.

Moreover, the new chocolate developed to restore energy and heal had succeeded.

Leng Pan had taken the first batch to use during this mission.

"Wow! You guys are really lucky to have a chef at home. The dishes he cooks are to die for." Vanish said as he grabbed a pair of chopsticks and a bowl of rice and began to eat without standing on ceremony.

When the others heard this, they realized that these dishes were cooked by Uncle Li and everyone began shoving food in their mouth as if it was a competition.

Lu Zhen just looked at these people who are like starving ghosts and shook his head.

How could he lead a team of gluttons?

Nevertheless, he didn’t speak and just returned to his daily task of serving food to his wife before eating elegantly as if he wants as in a banquet.

Without looking at the environment, one would think that he was in a high-end restaurant eating delicacies.

Yet, no one paid him any mind. Everyone was buried in their bowl eating.

Leng Pan smiled and turned to kiss her husband on the cheek before resuming to eat.

Lu Zhen froze for a moment before a smile crept on to his face as he began to eat as well.

Today’s meal tasted even better than before. It seemed that something sweet had been added to it.

It was surprising how after being married for over a year, his heart pounded hard just from a simple kiss.

It seemed that he would never tire of his beloved.

In the midst of their meal, the group heard the swarm of locusts flying above the building.

Some stopped to nibble on the stones around but we’re unable to.

Leng Pan walked over to a window that had been nailed shut with pieces of wood and peered outside through a crack.

This was the first time she had seen the locusts clearly. They were larger than normal locusts by nearly five times.

Holding them I the palm would probably fill it with just one of them.

Moreover, they had large exposed mandables which she believed they used to tear apart their prey.

Looking at how they tried to chew on stones, she could see that the exposed teeth were similar to steel knives, short and sharp.

If they bit someone, one bite could tear off a piece of flesh from their bodies.

She couldn’t believe that something as insignificant as a grasshopper could mutate to such a state.

"If these locusts haven’t zombified, aren’t they a source of protein?" She suddenly asked.

Sounds of shock emenated from behind her.

Some were surprised that she would suggest eating locusts, while others seem to have realized something.

"Indeed, if the apocalypse goes in a similar direction to the last one, soon there won’t be any animals to provide meat. Not even the mutated ones. At that time, cases of cannibalism will start to surface and as time goes by and the body craves protein more, even relatives and friends will turn their kin into food. Now is the best time to save as much protein as possible and locusts are high in protein. These mutated ones must have high levels of energy as well. Let’s find a way to catch as much as possible. We can dry them for long-term preservation." Lu Zhen had been thinking about this since the locusts appeared but he was afraid of disgusting his wife.

Since she was the one who brought the issue up, he voiced his thoughts.

"But these things are so fierce that they can eat stones, how do we even catch them?" Janna asked, perplexed.

Others also sank into thought.

They didn’t know how long the locusts disaster would persist and they had to find a way to catch them in large quantities before they disappeared.

Of course, no one thought that the locusts would just disappear, but maybe another worse disaster will emerge that will wipe them out.
