Chapter 300 - 287: He Hasn’t Slept for Over 20 Hours
"No wonder. If my brother hadn’t gotten uglier with age, he’d probably be eighty percent as handsome as me!"
Georgia couldn’t help but let out a snort of laughter. Clutching the phone, she said, "Who is this on the other end of the line? Give me back my husband!"
The Sheridan residence was quite far from the company. Georgia woke up early, and Sharon Ennis had the driver take her to work.
’Maybe I should hurry up and learn how to drive,’ Georgia thought.
Once at the office, Georgia searched for driving schools online. A ton of them popped up, and she was overwhelmed by the choices.
Vivian Sawyer came over and glanced at her computer screen. "Miss Thorne, are you looking to learn how to drive?"
"Yeah. Do you have any recommendations? I don’t really know much about this."
Vivian Sawyer typed the name of a driving school. "This is where I learned. Why don’t you go here too? My instructor was really responsible. Should I send you his number?"
"Sure!" Georgia agreed readily.
That afternoon, she called the instructor Vivian Sawyer had recommended, but he said they weren’t accepting new students before the New Year. She would have to register after the holiday.
New Year’s Eve was drawing closer day by day, which meant Elliot Sheridan would be back soon.
She remembered he had said on the phone that he would be back on the morning of New Year’s Eve.
The last few days had been unusually hard to get through. Many employees whose hometowns weren’t local had taken leave to go home for the New Year, leaving only the locals, like her, at the company.
With more than half the staff gone, the office suddenly felt much more deserted.
Before leaving today, Georgia had specifically told Sharon Ennis not to have the driver pick her up.
With the New Year approaching, she wanted to buy something for Elliot’s parents as a holiday gift.
After work, she met up with Nancy Hughes to go shopping.
Nancy Hughes was also still holding down the fort at her job, saying she would head home on New Year’s Eve itself.
"Getting married really changes a person!" Nancy Hughes said, looking her up and down. "By the way, since you’re living with Elliot’s parents, have you run into any of those legendary mother-in-law versus daughter-in-law problems?"
"No, Elliot’s mother is a wonderful person, and she’s very good to me!" She took care of her with meticulous attention to every detail.
"Ah, I’m so jealous of you!" Nancy Hughes sighed.
Georgia turned to look at her. "Jealous of me? Then you should hurry up and marry Dylan Heston!"
"No way!"
"Why not? I thought you two had been dating for a long time!"
Nancy Hughes huffed. Her expression showed nothing unusual as she said, "I have a fear of marriage, so I don’t want to get married for now!"
Georgia had brought Nancy Hughes out to get her opinion. "So, what do you think I should buy?"
She had been thinking about it for days but still didn’t have a single clue.
Nancy Hughes pulled her straight into a jade shop. "Elliot’s parents already like you, so they’ll love whatever you buy!"
"It’s not the gift they care about, but the thought behind it!" Nancy Hughes pointed to a Jade Bracelet in the glass counter. "Miss, could I take a look at that one?"
"Of course, one moment please." The saleswoman took out the Jade Bracelet. "Miss, this particular bracelet is made of high-quality Nephrite Jade. Its color is a translucent emerald green, and..."
"You’re buying a Jade Bracelet?" Georgia asked.
Nancy Hughes raised her eyebrows. "Yep, I want to buy one for my mom."
Nancy Hughes barely glanced at the bracelet in the saleswoman’s hand before saying, "Please wrap it up for me!"
The Jade Bracelet cost nearly fifty thousand, but Nancy Hughes didn’t even blink, spending the salary she had saved up for more than half a year.
After buying the Jade Bracelet, Nancy Hughes said, her heart aching with regret, "I seriously feel like I’m carrying a thousand pounds right now. This thing cost fifty thousand!"
"I didn’t see you blink when you bought it!"
Nancy Hughes was on the verge of tears. "You should have stopped me from buying it."
"Then why don’t we return it now?" After all, they had just stepped out of the shop’s entrance.
"I just checked. All sales are final once they leave the counter! No returns!" Nancy Hughes was on the verge of tears but couldn’t cry. "Even gold isn’t this expensive these days!"
"Georgia, you really should have stopped me from paying. I feel like my flesh is aching and my heart is bleeding!"
Georgia was speechless.
Afterward, Nancy Hughes helped Georgia buy her New Year’s gifts.
Georgia bought gifts for everyone in the Sheridan Family, even for Byron Shaw and Naomi Shaw.
However, she had the gifts for Byron Shaw and Naomi Shaw sent by courier to Byron Shaw’s company.
After receiving them, Byron Shaw sent her a text message: "Thanks. Happy New Year!"
"Happy New Year!"
Archetype Company’s holiday began on the evening of New Year’s Eve, which meant she still had to go to the office during the day.
Half-asleep, she heard a sound in the room. She shifted, pulling the blankets even tighter around herself.
When she woke up again, she was startled awake.
Her first instinct was to reach for her phone on the nightstand to check the time.
She didn’t feel her phone. Instead, her hand touched a person’s face. Her eyes flew open, and she saw the man sleeping beside her.
Shocked and overjoyed, she even suspected she was still dreaming. She squeezed his face, rendered speechless.
Elliot Sheridan seemed to anticipate what she wanted to say. "You’re not dreaming. It’s really me. My plane landed at five."
Leaning close to her ear, Elliot reported his itinerary to her.
The final meeting had been canceled because the other party had a last-minute issue. So, he immediately had Owen Sawyer change his flight to an earlier one.
During the ten-plus-hour journey, he hadn’t slept a second. His mind was filled with nothing but Georgia.
The thought of seeing her and holding her when he got back made him too excited to sleep.
At the same time, the journey had felt incredibly long.
Selena Sheridan had even said he was possessed, not sleeping for over twenty hours.
It felt so good to be holding Georgia and sleeping again. She was sleeping so soundly that he couldn’t even bear to wake her.
Georgia had gone to bed rather late last night. Worried she would be late for work this morning, she had deliberately set three alarms, but not a single one had gone off.
And the culprit was the man sleeping beside her.
He had used the righteous-sounding excuse, "I couldn’t bear to wake you," and turned off all her alarms.
As a result, when she finally woke up, it was already ten o’clock.
It was pointless to go to work at this point.
Georgia shot him a fierce glare. "Let go, I need to get up!"
"Your husband has finally made it back. Sleep with me a little longer." Elliot held Georgia’s shoulders, leaning over her. "Be good. I haven’t slept in over twenty hours!"
It wasn’t that Georgia was a pushover, but that he was just too good at finding her weak spots.
Pinned helplessly beneath him, Georgia struggled slightly. "You at least have to let me make a phone call to ask for a day off!"
It was the last day before the holiday, after all. It wouldn’t look good to be a no-show without a reason.
Elliot gave his approval. Georgia picked up her phone and saw that, sure enough, all three alarms had been turned off.
"Team Leader, I wish you a Happy New Year!"
After finishing her call with Seth Shields to ask for the day off, she was pinned under Elliot a second later. "Alright, now it’s time to sleep with me!"
She took a nap with Elliot, and when she woke up again, it was already noon.
The man beside her was gone. Georgia rolled over, wrapping herself in the blankets and yawning sleepily.
Today was New Year’s Eve, a day for every family to gather for a reunion dinner.
As soon as Georgia went downstairs, she saw Selena Sheridan sitting next to Miss Sheridan, whispering something in the old woman’s ear that made her very happy.
Selena Sheridan had gone to Breccon to study again, and she had changed a lot since coming back, yet in a way, she hadn’t.
Because she was back to her old self—the same lively, cheerful, beloved treasure of the family.
Sharon Ennis saw her daughter-in-law standing at the top of the stairs. "You’re up. Come and have some breakfast!"
Blushing, Georgia was very ashamed of waking up so late. She called out, "Mom, Grandma, Selena!"
Miss Sheridan had met Georgia a few times before and had also heard Elliot clearly express his intentions—he was determined to marry Georgia.
The most important thing wasn’t whether she liked Georgia, but that her grandson was very fond of Georgia now.
As for Elliot’s decision to marry first and report later, the old lady just turned a blind eye.
"Georgia, you’re finally part of our family! I missed you to death!" Selena Sheridan exclaimed excitedly, jumping over and hugging Georgia, as boisterous as ever.
In the past, Selena Sheridan had always wanted a good sister, someone just like Georgia. Back then, she had even wished her parents would just adopt Georgia.
But now was close enough. They had finally become family, even if their generational standing had changed.
Sharon Ennis rapped Selena Sheridan on the head. "Georgia is your aunt now. Don’t be rude!"
Selena Sheridan yelped and clutched her forehead in mock pain. "I’m used to calling her that!" she protested. "How am I supposed to suddenly change now? Besides, Georgia is a little younger than me. Calling her ’Aunt’ would be so awkward!"
Selena Sheridan refused, stubbornly calling out "Georgia, Georgia" to Georgia, which earned her another flick on the head from Sharon Ennis.
"Show some respect for your elders!"
"Mom, it’s okay. Just let her call me that," Georgia said. ’If Selena really did call her ’Aunt,’ she was afraid she’d get indigestion!’
"See? Georgia said so herself!" Selena Sheridan turned to look at Sharon Ennis. In the past, Elliot had been her human shield; now it was Georgia.
Selena Sheridan grinned mischievously. "Unless you give me a big red envelope, then I’ll call you ’Aunt’!"
Red envelopes!
That one sentence reminded Georgia. She had prepared gifts for all the elders in the Sheridan Family but had forgotten about the younger generation.
’She really hadn’t prepared any red envelopes!’
Just then, Elliot came in from outside. "You’ll get your red envelope tonight. First, let’s hear you call her ’Aunt.’"
Selena Sheridan knew that her second uncle was not only very rich but also incredibly generous. The red envelopes she received from him every year were much bigger than anyone else’s.
Selena Sheridan sidled up to him and said coaxingly, "Second Uncle, there are two of you this year. Doesn’t that mean I should get a double red envelope?"
