At his current speed, Yang An couldn’t dodge. His only option was to flee, so he instantly returned to Broken Armor.

In the firelight, several monsters hanging from chains launched their attacks at him simultaneously.

One monster, over twenty feet tall, had the appearance of a grotesque bird. Its two thick talons had impaled several human-like heads, skewering them like candied fruit on a stick as the sharp talons lunged for Yang An.

Another monster seemed to be chanting an incantation, muttering incomprehensible words. Green, scaly arms shot out from the darkness surrounding Yang An, all reaching for him.

Yet another monster, covered in eyes, stared blankly at Yang An. Its gaze was filled with a bizarre power that paralyzed him, leaving him unable to move...

All these bizarre attacks were aimed at Yang An alone; there was no way he could take them head-on.

Although some strange force held him captive, he could still sense his mask without obstruction and immediately entered the 6th Floor.

The lion’s head in the sky above was now blocked by a massive monster. Its body was covered in insect-like limbs and coated in a fine, red down.

The flames that had rained down moments before had plunged many Mutants into a sea of fire. Yet even as their bodies burned, they continued to charge madly at other Mutants.

A cold sweat broke out on Yang An’s forehead. He seized the opportunity, becoming a blur as he slipped under the monster. When he encountered a Mutant too powerful to fight, he would again return to Broken Armor to face the other set of dangers.

When the flames on White Feather were about to burn out, Yang An would enter the 6th Floor again to borrow more fire.

When more and stronger Mutants appeared on the 6th Floor, Yang An would retreat to Broken Armor to avoid the worst of it.

When the monsters on their chains all attacked him in unison, he would once again escape to the 6th Floor.

God only knew why so many Mutants were fighting to the death in the wilderness of the 6th Floor. Yang An could only keep jumping back and forth between the two worlds, narrowly dodging one relentless attack after another in a constant stream of near-misses.

’If I could use my internal energy without any restrictions here, it wouldn’t matter which world I was in. All of these things would be dead.’

But for now, he could only do his best to preserve his own life.

Of course, without the mask on his face, he wouldn’t be able to traverse either of these worlds at all.

A distance of just a few kilometers, which would normally be trivial for him, took Yang An the time it takes for an incense stick to burn before he finally escaped the Mutants’ battlefield.

The sounds of battle gradually faded behind him. By now, Yang An’s clothes were completely soaked with sweat.

’Finally, a moment of peace!’

Yang An sighed in relief. He was utterly exhausted, but he couldn’t stop yet.

He couldn’t see many Mutants up ahead; the few scattered ones he did spot posed no real threat. After catching his breath for a moment, Yang An pressed forward.

An hour later, in what looked like the ruins of a village, Yang An ran into a large group of Mutants again.

Although he hadn’t stumbled into another battle between the Mutants this time, Yang An took no chances. He used the same method to escape, spending over ten minutes to get clear of the area.

He didn’t know how much time had passed, but the sky over the wilderness was beginning to grow dim. Even a body made of iron couldn’t withstand such a long period of intense mental strain, and Yang An finally stopped.

He didn’t even know where he was. However, when he had returned to Broken Armor a few minutes prior, he could confirm that he was getting closer and closer to its depths. The visibility, even with the fire from his Lighting Technique, had become extremely poor. Although the Calamity had not yet seeped into Broken Armor, being here was now almost no different from being inside it.

As he scanned his surroundings and the sky grew darker, specks of light seemed to appear in the distance.

Yang An rubbed his tired, stinging eyes and looked closer.

Over there... it looked like another new district. A massive, sprawling city.
