Chapter 17: The Messenger
Volume 1: The First Civilization
Chapter 17
The news of the village council quickly spread among the people. For the first time, every family had a task.
The hunters trained together every morning. The gatherers worked in pairs instead of alone. Even the children helped carry firewood and collect clean water from the river. The village no longer moved without purpose — every person knew where they were needed.
Chief Rokan quietly watched the changes from the entrance of his hut. He had led the village for more than thirty years, yet he had never seen everyone work together like this.
"It feels different."
Elder Mira stood beside him, carrying a basket of freshly picked herbs. "It does."
"The village has always survived."
She smiled. "But now, it is beginning to grow."
---
Meanwhile, Aren spent the morning inspecting the newly repaired storage hut. The smoked meat remained dry, the wooden shelves holding well. Nothing had spoiled.
He nodded silently. "So far, so good."
The familiar blue screen appeared.

Aren smiled. The numbers were slowly improving. Small steps — but steady ones.
---
Near noon, a loud horn suddenly echoed from the eastern watch post.
HOOOOOO!
Every villager froze. Hunters immediately grabbed their spears. Women hurried the children into their homes. Chief Rokan rushed toward the gate.
"What happened?"
A young guard pointed toward the forest. "Someone is coming!"
Silence fell over the village. The hunters quickly formed a defensive line. Moments later, a lone figure slowly emerged from the trees.
He wore rough leather clothes made from animal hides, a spear resting on his shoulder. Unlike Aren’s villagers, his face was painted with dark blue markings. He stopped several dozen steps away and made no attempt to raise his weapon — instead he slowly lifted both hands.
Chief Rokan narrowed his eyes. "I don’t recognize him." Neither did the older hunters.
The stranger looked around before speaking. "I come without hostility. My name is Tarek. I am a messenger."
The villagers exchanged uneasy glances. "A messenger?"
Chief Rokan stepped forward. "From where?"
The stranger looked toward the northern mountains. "From the Stone Bear Tribe."
The name meant nothing to Aren. But judging by the expressions around him, it meant something to everyone else. One elderly hunter whispered, "I thought they disappeared years ago..." Another quietly tightened his grip on his spear.
Chief Rokan remained calm. "What brings the Stone Bear Tribe here?"
Tarek reached into a leather pouch hanging from his belt. The hunters instantly raised their weapons. "Don’t move!"
Tarek stopped. Slowly, he pulled out a smooth white stone, a strange symbol carved by hand on its surface. "I was sent to deliver an invitation." He placed the stone on the ground and stepped back.
Chief Rokan cautiously picked it up. His expression immediately changed. "This is..."
Elder Mira stepped closer. "The Council Stone..." She looked at Tarek in disbelief. "It has finally been called again?"
The messenger nodded once. "The tribes of the eastern valley will gather before winter. There is something all of you need to hear."
A cold wind swept across the village. Aren silently watched the messenger. The Civilization System suddenly appeared.

Warning: Your choices may change the future of the village.
Aren slowly closed the panel. For the first time, the future of the village would no longer depend only on what happened inside its walls. Beyond the forest, other tribes were already waiting.
