In his younger days, Mr. Lin often had to drink for work-related social functions.

Stomach problems were a common occurrence, and he’d even drunk himself into a perforated stomach on several occasions.

His family, worried that something serious would happen if he kept drinking like that, ordered him to stop drinking entirely, except for unavoidable occasions.

Coupled with new regulations in the past two years that forbid officials like him from drinking at social functions, it had gotten to the point where he could barely have a drink once every two or three months.

For someone who had the bug for booze, never mind two or three months—even going two or three days without a drink was torture.

Now that he finally had a legitimate excuse to drink, he naturally wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass him by.

Seeing his overjoyed expression, Lin Xiaoyue could only give a wry, helpless smile.

After exchanging a few more words with Chenyang and Liu Qian, she waited for Mr. Lin to leave for his medicinal bath, then left the hospital to buy the alcohol.

After she left, the patients and families from the other wards also gradually departed. As for the others in the same room, some were too ashamed to even speak to Chenyang. Others, however, shamelessly tried to curry favor, asking if he could cure their illnesses instantly as well.

Just minutes ago, they had been eager to condemn Chenyang as an unethical quack, a villain. Now, they were treating him like a living god.

This complete reversal in attitude was a perfect, cynical display of human fickleness.

As a doctor, he shouldn’t hold a grudge against people like them.

But Chenyang wasn’t just a doctor. First and foremost, he was his own man.

So he didn’t give them the time of day. After brushing them off with a few noncommittal words, he walked out of the hospital room.

Liu Qian followed him out and praised him generously. "I knew your medical skills must be impressive since Liu Yun personally recommended you to the hospital, but I never imagined they were this profound."

Seeing that no one was around, Chenyang took Liu Qian’s hand and stroked it with a smile. "Don’t praise me so much. It’ll go to my head."

Liu Qian rolled her eyes at him. "Seeing that smug look on your face, I really don’t want to praise you. But to be fair, your medical skills are truly incredible.

Honestly, if the hospital assigned positions based on skill, you could easily be a department head."

Chenyang shook his head. "I don’t want to be a department head."

"Why not? The salary is high, the benefits are great, and it’s a prestigious title. You’re only in your early twenties. If you became a department head at this age, you wouldn’t just be the youngest one at the City Hospital—you’d probably be the youngest in the entire province’s medical field."

"The perks are directly proportional to the pressure. I just want to be a doctor and treat patients. I don’t want to deal with all that other administrative stuff."

"To each their own. I guess that’s a fine choice, too."

Liu Qian paused, then her tone shifted. "But, given your current situation, I’m afraid even your dream of just being a doctor might be hard to maintain."

"What’s wrong? Is Miss Liu the Beauty jealous of my skills? Planning to knock me out and toss me in a river to feed the fishes?"

As he spoke, his restless hand was no longer content with just her hand. It started to wander up her arm, heading toward her full bosom.

But just as it got close, Liu Qian slapped it away.

"Stop messing around, I’m being serious," she said. "That incident at the car crash scene has created a huge public outcry. When I was in the ER just now, I heard there are at least four or five different groups of people looking to settle the score with you."

Chenyang frowned. "Settle what score? And who are these people looking for me?"

Liu Qian explained, "People from the entertainment company, some self-proclaimed fans of Lin Jiji, and the people you ’took advantage of’ by demanding something at the crash site. On top of that, some people from the criminal underworld. As for why they’re looking for you, they want to condemn you, or even beat you up on behalf of their idol."

Chenyang’s eyes narrowed. "Looks like I was right. That Lin Jiji is behind all of this. I can understand his fans and his entertainment company coming after me, but why people from the underworld? Does Lin Jiji have connections like that?"

"That, I don’t know." Liu Qian shook her head. "In any case, your situation is very precarious right now. And Liu Yun, who’s trying to handle this for you, hasn’t found a solution yet. She hasn’t even found a breakthrough."

Chenyang smiled. "Actually, this isn’t that complicated. I just need one person to step forward and help me, and most of the problem will be solved instantly."

"Who’s going to help you?"

"Lin Xiaoyue!"

"Her?" Liu Qian asked, surprised. "What does she have to do with this?"
