If that is really the case, Lin Fei would be too disappointed.

A dignified Array Master colluding with the City Lord—how could Lin Fei not be disappointed?

At this moment, Master Chen Rui had already released the messenger and looked at Lin Fei, but what he said made Lin Fei pause for a moment, "Lin Fei, you can leave now. I won’t tell the City Lord. Also, take this item with you; it can help you escape danger at critical moments."

Lin Fei looked at the strange jade stone given to him by Master Chen Rui. The jade stone was white, a dazzling white, making Lin Fei unsure of what it was or what it was supposed to do.

"You mustn’t squeeze it too hard, or you’ll be transported away," Master Chen Rui said.

"Master, what exactly is this?" Lin Fei asked.

With a smile, Chen Rui said, "This is a pseudo-Divine Artifact. For me, it’s a life-saving item. But as an Array Master, I don’t need it, so I’ll give it to you. Remember, you must squeeze the jade stone hard for it to transport you away."

"Transport me away from here?" Lin Fei was puzzled, "Transport to where?"

Upon hearing Lin Fei’s words, Master Chen Rui gave an awkward smile, "Well, this... this transmission stone transports randomly, with no precise location. However, the range isn’t large—from here to the City Lord Mansion, perhaps."

Lin Fei nodded. Although it was a random transmission stone, it was indeed a good item. As long as it was used well, it was sure to help save his life.

"Thank you, Master Chen Rui!" Lin Fei bowed to Master Chen Rui, grateful that he had given him a pseudo-Divine Artifact. Though it was only for transport, a pseudo-Divine Artifact was a pseudo-Divine Artifact, valuable and particularly useful to Lin Fei now, allowing him to escape in dire moments.

Lin Fei was truly helped immensely.

"Don’t mention it. I pity you and don’t want you to be bullied by these large sects. They control everything and say whatever they want, but I can’t stand their ways. They issued a wanted notice over a small matter, which is simply despicable, lacking any grandeur of a big sect," remarked Master Chen Rui.

Listening to Chen Rui’s words, Lin Fei nodded. Then Chen Rui said, "It’s getting late; you should go now. Head south and leave Sky Wolf City’s boundaries; you’ll be relatively safe. Go wherever you wish."

"Thank you, Master. But how can I repay your kindness?" Lin Fei did not want to be ungrateful.

"You don’t need to repay me; just live well. I hope you become someone great, to show these mighty sects your prowess," said Master Chen Rui, though in his heart, he held little hope, only wishing Lin Fei could escape pursuit.

Lin Fei nodded but took an Elemental Stone from the space ring. Though much harder than a diamond, to a cultivator, it was fragile. On it was carved Lin Fei’s name; he handed the Elemental Stone to Chen Rui.

"Master, if one day I gain strength, just give me this Elemental Stone; I promise I will help you!" Lin Fei said.

To keep Lin Fei’s spirits up, Master Chen Rui casually stored the Elemental Stone in the space ring, saying, "Now you should go. I’ll help delay them for a while."

Feeling moved by Master Chen Rui’s words, Lin Fei was thankful for meeting him. After saluting, he turned to bid farewell to Master Chen Rui.

Master Chen Rui watched Lin Fei leave. After Murong Linfei departed, he returned to Sky Wolf City.

Within Sky Wolf City, the City Lord sensed the return of Master Chen Rui, but seeing him return alone felt strange. Did Master Chen Rui not accompany Lin Fei? If not, where was Lin Fei—could he be inside Sky Wolf City?

The City Lord’s suspicions changed entirely after Master Chen Rui arrived before him.

"Master, where is Lin Fei?"

Master Chen Rui didn’t answer but instead approached a chessboard, waving his hand to reset the black and white pieces.

Meeting Master Chen Rui’s gaze, the City Lord nodded and sat opposite, ready to play chess.

"Shall we play a game?"

"Yes."

The City Lord immediately sat down and began the match with Master Chen Rui.

Midway through the game, Master Chen Rui finally asked, "Do you really want to know where Lin Fei went?"

Startled, the City Lord replied, "I’m just asking casually, nothing more."

Hearing that, Master Chen Rui chuckled, "Actually, it’s fine to tell you."

"What do you mean, Master Chen Rui? Where did Lin Fei go?" the City Lord asked, feeling uneasy.

With a smile, Master Chen Rui said, "He has left this place of trouble."

"What do you mean, Master?" the City Lord inquired.

"Since you want to catch him, why shouldn’t he run away? Oh, Wolf Soul, how you disappoint me," Master Chen Rui said, shaking his head, placing another chess piece.

There was no time for chess now, so the City Lord stood up.

Yet Chen Rui coldly said, "Sit down! Where are you going?"

City Lord Wolf Soul responded, "Master, I must bring Lin Fei back!"

"Why? He owes you nothing, does he?" Master Chen Rui questioned.

"He doesn’t owe me, but I already informed Qianhuang Peak. If they blame me, what will I do, Master?"

"Be responsible for your actions. For now, finish this game. Afterward, you may go where you wish. If you leave before finishing, don’t blame me for leaving too—I won’t return," Master Chen Rui stated.

Hearing that, City Lord Wolf Soul sighed deeply, sitting down to continue the chess game.

At last, the chess match ended with the City Lord’s defeat, but he accepted it. After all, his mind was elsewhere, so he felt little about losing.

"Go on."
