Chapter 965 - Second Form, Swift Shadow

Han Wu let out a howl as he shifted into a werewolf. All of his attributes doubled.

Gripping the crystal greatsword in both clawed hands, he charged at the Undead General once more. The Undead General couldn’t dodge his blindingly quick attack in time and could only raise its broken sword to block.

Han Wu’s doubled strength now exceeded that of the Undead General’s. The crystal greatsword’s quality was also far superior to the broken blade. In the clash, the broken sword snapped again.

The crystal greatsword followed through and plowed straight into the Undead General’s bones. The crushing impact split it in half, separating its upper body from its lower body.

Still, the Undead General refused to die. It cursed Han Wu using its soul voice, swearing that Han Wu would die at the hands of the undead, as the great Undead King would avenge it.

Han Wu had no patience for empty threats. He brought the crystal greatsword down on the Undead General’s skull. The blade shattered its bones and absorbed its soul.

The world went silent. The Undead General’s death caused the rest of the Undead Legion to collapse into disarray. Even without Han Wu stepping in, Galewind City’s adventurers could mop up the rest.

Han Wu was about to head back to the city when the Desolation Manifestation stopped him. “Don’t go yet. There’s something inside the Undead General’s armor.”

Heeding the advice, Han Wu searched the armor and found a bone made of crystal. The sight reminded him of Jing Jing. It wasn’t a piece of equipment or a material. Like the wolf skull, this was a legacy.

The Desolation Manifestation scanned it and confirmed that it was a Fourth Form legacy, Crystal Lich. If a non-undead were to absorb this legacy, they would gain the power to transform into a Crystal Lich. If an actual undead received it, the benefits were even greater, as it would instantly elevate them to the most noble royal bloodline among the skeleton species, the Crystal Skeleton.

Despite having this incredible legacy, the Undead General had not used it. Its loss was Han Wu’s gain. Unfortunately, as it was a Fourth Form legacy, Han Wu couldn’t use it yet and could only hold on to it for the time being. He could always come back to it if he didn’t find a better legacy later.

When Han Wu returned to Galewind City, he was greeted with a hero’s welcome from the soldiers on the wall. They’d watched him destroy the Undead General with overwhelming force. Galewind City saw him as their savior.

The city lord personally came out to express his gratitude and invited Han Wu to enter his vault to pick a treasure as a reward. Han Wu accepted gladly. After all, this had been his goal all along.

Once inside the vault, he asked the Desolation Manifestation to scan it for the Death God King’s requested treasure, the one that could resist a 99% kill rate.

After a thorough search, the Desolation Manifestation returned with a negative. The treasure wasn’t here.

Han Wu was disappointed but not surprised. A treasure capable of resisting a 99% kill rate was never going to be easy to find.

Without that specific treasure, he’d settle for the next best thing. The Desolation Manifestation guided him to a solid Second Form legacy called Swift Shadow.

Swift Shadow’s strength was in speed. The user’s speed attribute would triple while in this Second Form. It also came with skills like short-range flight, Shadow Meld, Shadow Stitch, Shadow Blade, Shadow Shuttle, and Shadow Clone.

Absorbing it would give Han Wu a massive boost to survivability. He didn’t know what dangers lay ahead, and having a form that kept him alive was a smart choice, so he followed the Desolation Manifestation’s advice and picked Swift Shadow.

When the city lord learned Han Wu had chosen only the Swift Shadow legacy, he assumed Han Wu was being modest to save him the expense. Moved by the gesture, the city lord gathered all the materials and equipment needed for the legacy and graciously gifted them to Han Wu, saving him a great deal of time.

After absorbing Swift Shadow, Han Wu’s base speed jumped from +55 all the way to +155. If he ran at full speed, he would leave afterimages behind.

Grateful for the city lord’s generosity, Han Wu decided to repay the favor by eliminating the undead threat to Galewind City once and for all.

The city lord didn’t believe him. Even though he assumed that Han Wu was just boasting, he took the time to explain the full history of the conflict between the city and the Undead Legion.

The two sides had been at odds for over a hundred years. The Undead Legion occupied a mass grave site over a hundred kilometers from the city. Every time Galewind City’s merchant caravans passed through, the undead would ambush them.

Galewind City had assembled an adventurer force to level the mass graves, but that only provoked the Undead King, a Fifth Form at the time, into retaliating with the full Undead Legion and driving the city’s forces back. From then on, the slightest friction between the two sides would trigger another undead invasion.

After generations of this, Galewind City had weakened considerably. The city lord himself was only a mediocre Third Form. When he’d learned the undead were coming, his first thought was to seek outside help instead of fighting them himself. He simply couldn’t handle it.

At least the fight this time had turned out well. The Undead Legion had been scattered. In Han Wu’s view, though, the people of Galewind City would live in constant fear for as long as the mass graves still existed.

It was better to finish the job and wipe the place out completely. The city lord had been good to him, so Han Wu would return the favor. With his target set, Han Wu departed immediately, heading for the mass graves over a hundred kilometers away.

He traveled in his Swift Shadow form. Its incredible speed allowed him to cover the entire distance in less than an hour.

At the perimeter of the mass graves, Han Wu sensed at least 100,000 skeletons milling about, all stronger than the force the Undead General had brought to Galewind City.

Han Wu wasn’t the least bit afraid. He was determined to level this place and end the threat for good.
