Chapter 53: Volt To The Rescue

Yawn~

A man with blue hair let out a tired yawn as he walked into one of the shops in the mall.

[You sure you don’t want to take a rest?] The voice of a female was heard in his ears.

"I’m fine," he answered as he shrugged off the sleepiness, "just a little bit sleepy."

Well, she understood why he was like this... After all, he had spent the entire night fighting a villain.

As much as it was only a Delta-ranked one, he had been annoying to deal with, especially given the fact that the villain’s electric attacks had been fast enough to keep up with him.

"Besides, Volt doesn’t take a break," the man said as he picked up a couple of energy drinks and walked to checkout, "what if there’s a citizen that needs help?"

Emily just let out a sigh. As much as Tyler was a showman, he also genuinely enjoyed being a hero.

Even if it was only because he enjoyed the praise he received from the ones he saved.

Volt...or rather, Tyler, opened all five cans of energy drinks before gulping them down in one go and tossing them in the trash can.

"Alright!" He let out as the Caffeine immediately got to work.

Given his superspeed Factor, it only took a few seconds for him to look full of energy again.

"Now then," he muttered as he walked towards the exit, "can you have my suit delivered at the ma—"

Tyler suddenly froze before looking around.

[Is everything okay?] His agent, Emily, asked.

"I just felt a large amount of Pragma," he responded as he scanned the mall.

As far as he could see, everything was normal, so had he imagined it?

"No," he muttered to himself, "I know I felt something."

[Are you certain?] Emily asked.

"Not quite," Tyler answered, "but I’ll run around just in case."

[Alright,] the agent answered, [I’ll use the buds to scan for any anomaly around you.]

Which meant that he had to go slower than usual, which he didn’t mind, so he nodded, "Alright."

With that, the people around him suddenly seemed to slow to almost a stop... from his perspective anyway, but that was just his Factor being activated.

The next second, the entire mall was filled with a blue streak as Volt moved through it, checking every nook and cranny whilst Emily continued scanning.

"Nothing?" He muttered as he looked around.

He had gone through every shop, restaurant or even storage of this massive mall, but he had noticed nothing that might’ve caused the sudden Pragma spike.

[I’m not detecting any unusual Pragma signatures either,] Emily reported, [If there was an ability activation, it’s either already over or—]

She suddenly paused, which caused him to frown, "Emily?"

[...Wait.]

Volt immediately came to a stop on her command, and he also started looking around.

[Stay right where you are,] she ordered again as she continued scanning.

Tyler obliged, waiting to see the results, and Emily soon spoke again, [That’s where the pragma spike came from.]

"But I don’t see anything," he said.

[That’s exactly the problem,] Emily’s voice grew more serious, [the Pragma is still there... but it’s being cut off from the rest of the mall. It’s almost like someone erected a wall around that particular spot.]

"A concealment-type Factor?"

[More like an isolation-type one.]

Tyler frowned as he looked around. If it was a concealment-type Factor, then it’d be a lot easier to break into the concealed space.

But an isolation-type Factor meant that the entire surroundings would be moved into another space without any visible change.

And to break into that space would be almost impossible..... almost.

"I’ll try to break into the isolated space," he said, "perhaps someone is in danger."

[Are you sure?] Emily asked, [You do know that reaching such speeds will massively drain your pragma...right?]

"I’ll be fine," he said, "besides, someone could be in danger, and I can’t just ignore that."

[Fine,] his agent responded after a while, [but don’t you dare put yourself in danger.]

"No promises," he answered with a grin before taking in a deep breath.

The speed he was about to reach was one he rarely ever used; after all, as Emily stated, it’ll leave him with almost no Pragma afterwards.

But it should be fine.

He’d at least have enough Pragma to ensure the safety of whatever citizen had been trapped in that vile isolated space.

He suddenly activated his Factor again, and the world around him slowed down.

Volt then ran a distance away from the spot before stopping, placing a hand on the ground and looking ahead.

His blue eyes started glowing even brighter as he allowed more Pragma to power his Factor.

He pumped so much Pragma into his Factor that the people who were already moving slowly seemed to completely stop.

The next second,

BOOM!

A sonic boom was left in his wake; fortunately, the people around him were quite a distance away.

Though they still stumbled thanks to the shockwave.

Volt, meanwhile, watched the world quickly pass by him, his focus completely on the spot he had been standing.

His body started vibrating at an insane speed, and the space in front of him started folding on itself.

The moment he reached the spot where the isolated space was, the invisible folds suddenly tripled, causing him to grit his teeth.

He soon felt as if he had passed through some type of elastic layer as he finally broke into the Isolated space.

He suddenly stopped in his tracks as he reverted to his normal speed, and although his body was currently screaming in pain, the first thing he said was,

"Don’t worry, citizen, Volt is here to save you."

Volt finally tried catching his breath as he looked around, realizing what the situation was.

There was a man in a suit, another with white hair and a mask on his face, and finally one with a katana stuck in his forehead.

"What the hell is going on here?"
