Chapter 1456 - 1447: Half a Year Later, I’ll Set You Free
When Finnian came out with his suitcase, he saw Constantine Stewart entering Chloe Winston’s small villa; the man was standing in the front garden, somewhat agitated and wanting to smoke.
"Mr. Stewart said Mr. Finnian can continue to stay," Zhen Gu came over and looked at Finnian with some sympathy.
Finnian had hit Constantine Stewart, but Constantine hadn’t even fought back, and even arranged for him to stay; this account would naturally be settled with Mrs. Stewart. Zhen Gu had been with Constantine Stewart for six years and understood his superior somewhat; he never suffers a loss.
"Do you have a cigarette?" Finnian asked lightly.
Zhen Gu took out a cigarette from his pocket and handed it over.
Finnian lit it, took a puff, and wrinkled his nose somewhat uncomfortably; he rarely smoked, always disciplined since childhood. It’s just that today, coming here as an observer, he saw through many things, his heart felt somewhat lost.
Previously, when Constantine Stewart was making a scene, Finnian merely smiled lightly, hoping he would stir things up even more. But after a trip to France, upon returning he surprisingly saw through his own heart. Finnian felt somewhat passive, especially seeing that Chloe Winston’s feeling toward Constantine Stewart was more distrust rather than indifference; he knew this battle was indeed difficult.
If Constantine Stewart had a bit of sense and could sweet-talk, over time, he could warm the cold heart of the young lady. Originally, Finnian was quite casual about relationships; it was just depressing that he became Constantine Stewart’s propellant.
If he hadn’t beaten Constantine Stewart, probably this man wouldn’t have been able to enter Chloe Winston’s room at all. If he stayed, Constantine Stewart would have an excuse to linger there at night; this was a reminder for him, hoping he would leave.
What a cunning, devious scoundrel.
Finnian sent a message to Chloe Winston: "I’m going back first to take care of the flowers and plants in the little garden. If you’re tired, come back."
After sending the message, the man stubbed out the cigarette and, with a glance at Zhen Gu, left gracefully.
The future days are still long. Simply pressing hard step by step would only have counterproductive effects.
Chloe Winston’s phone vibrated for a second; she took it out and looked at it casually, her eyes warmed slightly, then quickly replied to Finnian’s message: "Okay, thank you."
Constantine Stewart heard the phone vibrate, paused slightly, his expression growing colder. He saw fresh flowers placed on the small table in the morning; his long, slender, fair fingers unintentionally brushed by, and with a bang, the vase along with the flowers fell and shattered into pieces.
Chloe Winston was startled, her body shivering. Seeing he had knocked over the vase, she couldn’t comprehend the current situation; the butler and Zhen Gu and others had all run off out of sight. She immediately said, "Don’t move, I’ll tidy up."
She went to fetch a broom, and when she returned, saw Constantine Stewart indeed remaining in the same position as before, not moving.
Chloe Winston gathered the scattered fragments and flowers together and dumped them away; then she saw the first-aid box quietly lying outside; she carried it wordlessly inside, opened it, and said indifferently: "Better go to the hospital for an X-ray."
Since they parted, this was the first time Chloe Winston spoke to him so calmly. Though the man knew she was worried about him retaliating against Finnian, his heart still couldn’t help but tremble lightly; his heart felt heated, as if it were feverish, making his head a bit dizzy.
His eyes darkened slightly, looking at her fair little face and slightly moist eyes; in a low voice, he said: "You help me apply the medicine, I’ll pretend Finnian hitting me never happened."
As he spoke, he lifted a pretty face that was a bit worse for wear; his features were deeper than those of an East Asian, with eyes resembling Eastern people, slender phoenix eyes without any aggression, softening the sharp lines considerably, revealing a scholarly, elegant charm.
Chloe Winston glanced at him sitting in the wheelchair, lifting his face; her fingertips trembled, then she lowered her head to find the herbal medicine, dipped a swab in the herbal oil, and gently applied it to his wound. Once, she loved his face the most; when emotions ran high, she always liked to kiss his chin, touch his high-bridged nose. Back then, her heart soared in pride, thinking this handsome man from head to toe was all hers.
"This is massage oil; it requires kneading to disperse the bruises," the man spoke softly, his chest faintly vibrating.
The two were very close, yet very distant.
Chloe Winston paused in her movement, looked at him, didn’t perform any massage, and lightly asked: "Were you serious about saying you wanted to remarry me last time?"
Constantine Stewart’s gaze suddenly shifted, examining her closely. The hint of ease on his face also gathered up; he nodded solemnly and said in a deep voice, "Yes."
