Chapter 109: Miss Wexler Might Be Missing You

Sophie Wexler looked up, and a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes when she saw the person before her. "It’s you."

Leo Fane walked over, stood before Sophie Wexler, and bowed slightly. His tone held a subtle mix of respect and gratitude. "Miss Wexler."

Straightening up, he then looked at the men beside her. The two of them had changed their expressions the moment Leo Fane appeared. Their previously flippant demeanor was gone, replaced by a serious one. "Major General Fane."

Leo Fane nodded gravely. "Is there anything else, gentlemen?"

The two men’s expressions shifted. It wasn’t so much that they feared Leo Fane, but rather Cillian Forrest.

’Why would Leo Fane be here?’ Their minds raced.

After a moment of realization, one of them pursed his lips before looking up with a smile. "What brings Major General Fane here?"

’We’d only heard this Healer-class was from the subordinate planet Karath. We had no idea she knew Leo Fane.’

’Could it be that *he* is finally making a move?’

For a moment, everyone present was lost in their own thoughts.

Leo Fane just smiled. "I am here under orders from His Majesty to protect Miss Wexler."

They had considered Cillian Forrest, since Leo Fane was his adjutant.

Cillian Forrest had two adjutants: one was Ethan Cross, and the other was Leo Fane. Their every word and action represented Cillian Forrest’s will.

But they hadn’t expected the order to come from His Majesty. They remained skeptical.

Seeing their expressions, Leo Fane said, "Would you two like to see the mission directive?"

With him saying that, who would dare to disbelieve? To disbelieve would be to question His Majesty.

The two men’s attitudes changed instantly. "Of course not. How could we possibly be worthy of seeing His Majesty’s orders?"

"Major General Fane, please don’t misunderstand. We simply admire Miss Wexler and wanted to invite her on an outing. We would never threaten her safety."

"Is that so?" Leo Fane’s tone was light. "But from what I can see, Miss Wexler doesn’t seem to share that desire."

"Miss Wexler?" As he spoke, Leo Fane turned and questioned Sophie Wexler with his eyes.

Sophie Wexler’s reply was swift. "I do not."

Leo Fane looked at the two men, his eyes smiling. "Gentlemen, aren’t you leaving yet?"

The expressions on the two men’s faces were a sight to behold, but with Leo Fane using His Majesty to pressure them—not to mention the man backing him—they didn’t dare to argue. In the end, they could only slink away in defeat.

Only then did Leo Fane turn around and look at Sophie Wexler respectfully. "Miss Wexler, I had an urgent mission last time and had to leave in a hurry. I didn’t get a chance to thank you for saving my life."

He had stayed with the Seventh Legion for two days, but Sophie Wexler was unconscious, so he hadn’t been able to thank her.

Sophie Wexler smiled and shook her head. "It’s nothing." Then she asked, "The poison in your system..."

"Thanks to you, Miss Wexler, it has been completely purged."

’That time, I really thought I was going to die. I never expected to run into the Marshal, let alone meet Sophie Wexler, who not only saved me but also purged the poison from my body.’

"That’s good." Sophie Wexler was relieved. Then she asked, "You said you’re here to protect me...?"

Hearing this, Leo Fane explained, "Because your Level is so high, Miss Wexler, His Majesty was concerned for your safety and specifically assigned me to follow and protect you."

’Although this was the Marshal’s idea, the order did indeed come from His Majesty.’

’The Marshal mentioned it to His Majesty, which is why His Majesty issued the order.’

"I see." Sophie Wexler lowered her gaze.

’That’s fine, too. This way, I’ll have a lot less trouble in the future.’

"By the way," Sophie Wexler suddenly remembered something. "You must know Cillian Forrest, right? What has he been busy with lately?"

’The memory of Cillian Forrest asking me to save him is still vivid. There’s no doubt they know each other; they might even be comrades-in-arms.’

’From the sound of it, he takes orders from His Majesty, so Cillian...’

"Fo..." Leo Fane swallowed the word "Marshal" and forced himself to say, "Cillian."

"He’s been busy with some military affairs recently."

’Before I was sent over, Ethan Cross warned me repeatedly not to blow our cover.’

’He also told me, in all seriousness, how important this Miss Wexler is to the Marshal.’

’He even said the Marshal might get matched this year.’

Sophie Wexler nodded. ’That makes sense. No wonder he hasn’t replied to my messages.’

After speaking, Leo Fane put in a good word for his Marshal. "Miss Wexler, please don’t be angry. Fo... Cillian has been a bit busy lately. He should come to see you in a couple of days."

Sophie Wexler said, "I’m not angry. What would I be angry about?"

She knew Cillian Forrest was busy with his own affairs; he didn’t need to report everything to her. She didn’t ask any more questions about him.

Instead, she asked Leo Fane if he wanted to come in and sit for a while, since he was there to protect her, after all.

Leo Fane refused. "There’s no need, Miss Wexler."

’The Marshal hasn’t even been inside. I wouldn’t dare, even if I had the nerve.’

"Miss Wexler, please rest assured. I will be responsible for your safety from now on. This is my communicator number. You can call me anytime if you need anything."

After speaking, he gave his communicator number to Sophie Wexler.

The two didn’t talk for long. After what had just happened, Sophie Wexler had lost the desire to go for a stroll, so she turned and went back inside her residence.

Leo Fane, meanwhile, deployed his protection detail, keeping most of them in the shadows so as not to pressure or inconvenience Sophie Wexler.

Once everything was arranged, he immediately sent a communication to Cillian Forrest.

He reported what had just happened to Cillian Forrest, item by item.

"Understood." As Cillian Forrest listened, his gaze stilled. "It seems they have too much time on their hands."

Leo Fane understood Cillian Forrest’s meaning almost instantly. He was displeased that they had pestered Miss Wexler. "Understood, Marshal. I’ll take care of it."

"How is she?" After a long pause, Cillian Forrest asked.

’There have been too many things to deal with lately, and I couldn’t free up any time. Last time, I only got a fleeting glimpse of her.’

"Miss Wexler is fine," Leo Fane said. "It’s just that, maybe..."

"Maybe what?" Seeing Leo Fane hesitate, Cillian Forrest commanded, "Speak."

"Miss Wexler might be missing you."

Cillian Forrest looked up. His eyes betrayed no emotion, but the pen in his hand paused, its tip leaving a long streak of ink on the document.

"Why do you say that?"

"Miss Wexler took the initiative to ask how you were doing." Although it was only a simple question, and she didn’t say much more.

On the other end of the communicator, Cillian Forrest was silent for a long while. He set aside the document that had been ruined by the pen. "I see."

The next few days passed normally for Sophie Wexler. She went out a few times, and perhaps because of Leo Fane’s presence, she never again encountered the kind of harassment from before, which was a great relief.

One day, just as Sophie Wexler finished recording a video and sent it to Benjamin Wyatt, the doorbell rang.

Sophie Wexler looked up, puzzled. ’The sky is already getting dark. Who could it be at this hour?’
