Chapter 292: The Collapse of Odin’s Abyss
"Lu Mingfei?!"
"Why would it be Lu Mingfei?"
Chen Motong's brain seemed to short-circuit. No matter how vivid her imagination was, she could never have guessed that Lu Mingfei would be the one to open the door.
"Well..."
"A whole lot of things happened. It's a long story."
Lu Mingfei scratched the back of his head and gave them an awkward smile.
"Lu Mingfei, there's something I need to confirm."
"You haven't betrayed us, have you?"
Chu Zihang stared at the grinning Lu Mingfei with his cold, impassive eyes.
"Of course not."
"How could I possibly betray you?"
Lu Mingfei looked horrified and frantically waved his hands.
"Good."
Chu Zihang sighed in relief. Then, right in front of Lu Mingfei, he effortlessly broke free of the ropes around his body.
"In that case, I won't have to knock you unconscious and carry you back to Cassell College. That saves me a great deal of effort and significantly lowers the difficulty of the mission."
Chu Zihang rotated his wrists before casually brushing the dust from his clothes.
"So when Chu Zihang asked whether I'd betrayed them, he was only trying to determine how difficult his mission would be? Okay, that's completely in character for him."
Lu Mingfei stared at him in disbelief.
"Let me make one thing clear, Lu Mingfei. I never believed you had betrayed us, even if you admitted it yourself."
"So no matter what happened, I was going to bring you back to Cassell College."
Chu Zihang continued staring at the dumbfounded Lu Mingfei.
"Chu Zihang..."
Lu Mingfei was instantly moved. With someone like Chu Zihang watching his back, what more could he possibly ask for?
"Hey, hey, hey."
"Are you two finished staring into each other's eyes?"
"Because when you're done, one of you should untie me."
Nono watched Chu Zihang and Lu Mingfei exchange an intense look, practically seeing sparks fly between them, and could not resist interrupting.
"Hm?"
"I assumed you would be able to escape on your own."
As Chu Zihang spoke, he crouched down and began untying Nono.
"Do I look like some kind of freak like you or Caesar?"
Nono rolled her eyes at him.
"I have a knife. This will be faster."
Lu Mingfei pulled a small knife from his pocket and handed it to Chu Zihang.
"Thank you."
Chu Zihang took the knife and easily cut through the ropes binding Nono.
"Ah..."
"Finally, I'm free!"
Once the ropes fell away, Nono climbed to her feet and stretched.
"Technically, we have only removed the ropes. We are still a considerable distance from true freedom," Chu Zihang corrected her.
"Whatever."
Nono glanced at Chu Zihang's serious, expressionless face, pursed her lips, and said nothing more.
"Nono, about what happened..."
Lu Mingfei looked at the brilliant and beautiful girl before him. A faint blush spread across his face as he lowered his head and tried to explain.
"Shh."
"You don't need to explain anything."
Nono stopped him before he could confess whatever he was hiding.
"No matter what you really are, you'll always be my sidekick."
Nono patted Lu Mingfei on the shoulder and flashed him a confident smile. At that moment, she seemed to shine more brightly than anything else in the room.
"Nono..."
The pathetic Lu Mingfei was moved all over again. A lonely kid starved for affection and recognition was remarkably easy to satisfy.
"All right, we'll deal with that later. The most important thing right now is finding a way out of here."
Nono patted Lu Mingfei's shoulder again, then turned toward Chu Zihang.
"Agreed."
Chu Zihang nodded. The next second, he kicked the enormous iron door off its hinges.
Beyond the door was a wide corridor filled with uniformed soldiers.
Nono and Chu Zihang exchanged a look, then attacked simultaneously.
"Hostiles!"
Shouts rang throughout the corridor as Nono and Chu Zihang efficiently took down one soldier after another.
Lu Mingfei remained behind them, loudly cheering them on the entire time.
The three continued advancing, overcoming every obstacle in their path until they reached the underground parking garage.
A Maybach radiating an eerie black glow was parked neatly inside.
Chu Zihang's pupils contracted the instant he saw it.
"Don't think about it right now. Just get in."
Lu Mingfei gave him no time to dwell on the sight. He immediately opened one of the Maybach's doors.
"It wasn't locked?"
Nono climbed into the driver's seat, muttering to herself.
"It belongs to the person running this place. He doesn't need to lock it."
Lu Mingfei sat in the back and offered an explanation.
"Let's move."
Chu Zihang opened the front passenger door and climbed inside.
"Hold on!"
Nono slammed her foot down on the accelerator.
The Maybach roared like a wild beast, smashed through the security barrier, and sped away.
When the three emerged from the underground garage, they discovered that a light rain had begun to fall.
The dark sky, the steady patter of rain, and the Maybach carrying them forward dragged Chu Zihang deep into his memories.
He still remembered that night years ago. He and that man had sat in a Maybach in weather just like this, racing along a highway beneath the rain.
Thunder suddenly roared across the sky.
As the Maybach sped down the road, countless shadows seemed to flicker around it.
"Highway 000? Was there even a highway with that number?"
While Chu Zihang remained lost in his memories, Nono caught sight of a highway sign as she pressed the accelerator harder.
"Highway 000?"
Chu Zihang's long-dead memories suddenly surged back to life and began assaulting his mind.
A rainy night.
Highway 000.
An eight-legged horse.
Odin.
Gungnir.
A Maybach.
Countless images flashed through Chu Zihang's mind.
At the same time, the speeding Maybach finally came to a stop.
Standing directly ahead of them was a fully armored king holding a spear and mounted on Sleipnir, his enormous eight-legged horse. He towered over the road like a terrifying god or demon.
"Odin?!"
Nono, Chu Zihang, and Lu Mingfei all froze.
"Since you have come this far, get out of the car."
Odin raised his spear and pointed it at Nono, Chu Zihang, and Lu Mingfei.
The three exchanged a glance.
"Go."
Nono immediately shifted into reverse and stepped on the accelerator.
A chorus of monstrous roars erupted behind them.
Countless Death Servitors had gathered behind the Maybach, completely blocking their escape.
"Damn it."
Nono clenched her teeth and pressed the accelerator to the floor, but the Death Servitors had seized the vehicle. It could not move backward even an inch.
"Get out."
Odin remained seated high atop the enormous Sleipnir, gazing down upon them.
Nono felt a flicker of fear.
Every possible route of escape had been cut off. The situation seemed hopeless.
"Don't worry."
Just as Nono's anxiety began to rise, Lu Mingfei gently reassured her and became the first to step out of the car.
"Lu Mingfei?"
Nono stared at him in confusion.
Before she could ask what he was doing, the Death Servitors restraining the Maybach abruptly scattered. Then they dropped to one knee, as though welcoming their supreme rulers.
Through the fog covering the highway, two beautiful young women walked toward Odin between the kneeling Death Servitors.
"Despicable intruders!"
"You entered without my invitation!"
Odin roared furiously when he saw outsiders invading his Nibelungen.
A Nibelungen was a dragon's private domain, effectively its palace. For other dragons to enter without warning was a direct insult to its owner's authority.
"We came to hunt Odin."
Xia Mi smiled at the armored figure mounted on Sleipnir and lightly licked the corner of her lips.
The next second, brilliant Golden Eyes illuminated the surrounding darkness. Scales instantly spread across her petite body.
Xia Mi completed her partial draconization in an instant and charged straight at Odin.
"Pathetic."
Odin gripped Gungnir and thrust it forward, intending to pierce directly through Xia Mi's body.
However, Xia Mi had not arrived empty-handed.
She wielded a terrifying alchemical weapon powerful enough to injure even a Dragon King.
The weapon had no known name. Lu Mingze had provided it to her specifically for this battle.
A deafening metallic impact shook the highway.
Xia Mi's alchemical weapon repeatedly collided with Gungnir, each clash producing another thunderous explosion.
Two Dragon King-level Yanling domains, each compressed to an almost unimaginable degree, slammed against one another.
The entire space began to wail.
The Nibelungen groaned in agony beneath their power. The earth-shaking force unleashed by the battle could have easily torn the land apart, and it caused the already distorted domain to twist even further.
"Erii!"
Xia Mi smiled as she struggled against Odin, neither side able to overpower the other in such a short time.
She had never intended to fight him alone.
Ever since she had worked with others to outmaneuver Lu Mingze, Xia Mi seemed to have developed a fondness for fighting as a team. Overwhelming a lone opponent with superior numbers felt wonderful.
The moment Xia Mi called her name, Erii rushed forward with a blade in her hands.
She swung once and cut down Sleipnir beneath Odin.
"You dare kill my horse?"
Odin flew into a rage. He had never imagined that anyone in the world would dare strike down his mount.
Before he could retaliate, however, an even greater problem awaited him.
Odin lost his balance as Sleipnir collapsed. Xia Mi seized the opening and brought her weapon down across his shoulder.
The tremendous pain left Odin momentarily dazed.
"It's time to wake up."
"You've slept long enough."
Odin tried to gather the last of his strength and throw Gungnir, the legendary divine spear that never missed its target.
Before he could release it, Lu Mingfei appeared directly in front of him.
Lu Mingze had once again taken control of the body.
He reached up with both hands and locked his fingers around Odin's mask.
"You are...?"
Odin's brilliant Golden Eyes burned furiously, but surrounded by three monsters possessing the power of Dragon Kings, there was nothing he could do to reverse the situation.
A violent explosion shook the Nibelungen.
Under the combined force of all three attackers, Lu Mingze tore the mask from Odin's face.
The instant the mask came free, Sleipnir, the godlike armor, and even Gungnir vanished without a trace.
All that remained was the weathered face of a middle-aged man.
His features bore a noticeable resemblance to Chu Zihang.
"So this is the previous vessel possessed by Odin. I see."
Lu Mingze studied the man whose features resembled Chu Zihang and immediately understood what had happened.
"He certainly knew how to play his cards. He used both father and son as potential vessels?"
Xia Mi glared at Odin's mask, which still radiated waves of divine power.
"Get this man into the car first."
"The three of us will bring Odin's Abyss to an end."
Lu Mingze issued the order.
"Don't order me around. We're cooperating as equals."
Xia Mi sounded slightly less confident than usual, but she still forced herself to argue with Lu Mingze.
"You've grown up."
Lu Mingze gave Xia Mi a faint smile.
"Tsk."
Xia Mi merely pursed her lips.
"Take care of this man."
She dragged the unconscious middle-aged man toward the Maybach, opened the door, and tossed him directly into the back seat.
Inside the car, Chu Zihang's fully awakened memories continued to overwhelm him.
His body trembled uncontrollably as he struggled to process the broken fragments.
Odin's appearance had restored details that had once been erased from his mind.
Crucial details.
"Take care of both of them."
Xia Mi glanced at the visibly unstable Chu Zihang, then at the unconscious Chu Tianjiao, before giving Nono her instructions.
"Uh, okay."
Nono felt her skin crawl beneath Xia Mi's Golden Eyes.
The last time she had felt such overwhelming terror was when the Dragon King of Bronze and Fire awakened.
That meant the young woman standing before her was almost certainly a Dragon King.
Nono quickly reached another conclusion.
The red-haired girl dressed like a Japanese shrine maiden and holding an enormous blade was probably a Dragon King as well.
Most alarming of all was Lu Mingfei.
He stood slightly ahead of Xia Mi and the red-haired shrine maiden, subtly occupying the leading position. That suggested that Lu Mingfei was also a Dragon King, and an exceptionally terrifying one.
Nono rubbed her forehead.
Being in the presence of three suspected Dragon Kings was placing a tremendous strain on her body.
It was torture on both a mental and physical level.
Whether it was an accidental glance from their blazing Golden Eyes or the slightest leakage from their Yanling domains, everything about those three carried absolute, suffocating pressure.
If Xia Mi, Lu Mingze, or Erii wished it, any one of them could simply ignite their Golden Eyes and look directly at a hybrid. An A-rank hybrid would instantly lose their sanity, transform into a Death Servitor, and obey their every command.
Xia Mi gave Chu Zihang one last, lingering look.
She said nothing before turning around and walking into the fog-covered depths of the Nibelungen.
The real battle was only beginning.
"Three Dragon Kings have already awakened?"
Nono's thoughts were in complete disarray. Her emotions had become extraordinarily complicated.
"What are you thinking about? Why are you making such an ugly face?"
While Nono was lost in thought, a voice slowly sounded beside her.
"Hm?"
Nono instinctively turned toward the passenger seat.
Chu Zihang had vanished.
In his place sat a tall man dressed in a military uniform.
"Don't worry. I'm not a bad person."
"Chu Zihang is perfectly safe. He's in the back seat, sleeping peacefully beside his father."
The man smiled faintly at Nono.
She looked through the rearview mirror.
Sure enough, Chu Zihang was now lying in the back seat with his eyes closed, sleeping soundly beside Chu Tianjiao.
"Who are you?"
Nono stared at the stranger.
"A pleasure to meet you. My name is Jovian."
The uniformed man smiled as he introduced himself.
