Chapter 197: Appreciation
As they watched the hyenas disappear into the distance, Sunnie heaved a sigh of relief. She was worried that her plan wouldn’t work, but it had worked better than she thought, and they had managed to save themselves from the brutal hands of these hyenas.
While she was coming here from the stream, she had proceeded with executing her plan. Sunnie had set it up so that whenever there was danger from these intruders, she would summon the loyal wolf they had.
Sunnie had learned to summon the wolf by whistling with her mouth. She had done so as she headed toward the danger, and the wolf came to her aid. Then she proceeded to signal the wolf.
It was all part of the plan’s execution—learning a way to signal the wolf to go and meet the other wild beasts and indirectly tell them about intruders in the farmland.
The wolf wasn’t overly close to the wild beasts to discuss with them, but it had managed to pull them out onto the farmland by signaling them that something was threatening the land where they found food.
And so these wild beasts stepped into the scene. They had been fed by Sunnie indirectly to the point that they had grown loyal enough not to steal from Sunnie’s farm or home. Rather, they’d be on standby while waiting for the better meal she’d serve them. Hearing that some intruders were coming to take away their source of food, they had instantly stepped in to take the hyenas down.
Sunnie was scared it wouldn’t work as fluently as she thought, but as she watched the wild beasts do their thing, she was relieved.
She smiled at the scene as Little Black and the chipmunks stepped forward. "It worked..." Little Black let out a smile. "I cannot believe it actually did work."
Eris folded his arms, slowly nodding. "Who knew these wild beasts could actually be loyal. I guess Sunnie was right after all—they can actually be of help."
Azure nodded. "And they might have actually done a better job than us in taking down these hyenas."
Luka also nodded. "Right. They were pretty much scary. I mean, the way they devoured them was something indeed."
Karl scoffed, folding his arms as he said, "Nothing impressive, though. You all must have forgotten our glorious days. I mean, we could get as brutal as they are and even do more. So what’s there to gloat about?"
Sunnie smiled. "Sure, sure, but at least we’re able to save ourselves, and that’s great." She stared at the wild beasts that were roaming at a distance without coming closer. "And I think they’re going to keep protecting the area from now on."
She smiled. "At least we can guarantee our safety and that of the farmland in the meantime," she expressed as they watched one of the huge, vicious-looking tigers approach.
They were alert in case he attacked, but Little Black, who was standing beside Sunnie, was able to understand what it wanted. "He wants to thank you."
Sunnie was surprised. Everyone was as they stared at Little Black.
"Are you sure he doesn’t want to fight?" Karl questioned.
"You always want to fight," Luka muttered as Karl cast him a cold glare.
Little Black proceeded to try to understand what the tiger was saying while translating it in real time. "...He’s grateful for the amazing meal that you’ve fed them in the meantime and assured you that you don’t need to feed them any further because they’re worried we’ll run out of what to eat. They said they’ll continue feeding on what they previously had."
"...They also promised that they’ll continue protecting the farmland and also our area from any dangers or attacks as a way to show their gratitude for what we fed them."
"Wow," the chubby chipmunk blinked, shaking his head. "That’s amazing. I never thought it would come to this."
"I thought they’d continue demanding our food till the end," the leader of the chipmunks folded his arms as he spoke coldly.
After Little Black was done translating what the wild beasts had said, he ended with another word of gratitude for her consistent meals. When they were all about to turn and leave, Sunnie told Little Black to pass on her information.
"Tell them that as a sign of my gratitude for saving us today, we’d like to host them on a final meal," she expressed.
Little Black didn’t really know how to speak their language, so he stammered a bit in conveying the information. But Zayn casually stepped in and delivered the information to the tigers in a way they’d understand.
After he was done, the others stared at him, surprised.
"Oh, I didn’t know he spoke wild language," Eris blinked.
"Me too," Luka agreed.
After that, the wild beasts agreed and requested that she leave the meal for them at their usual spot and they’d come to take it. Sunnie agreed and thanked them once more.
After that, the wild beasts all dispersed into their hiding. Soon, none of them were seen. All that remained at the scene were the unfortunate bodies of the hyena beastmen who couldn’t escape the clutches of these wild beasts and ended up dead in their hands.
Sunnie sighed as she shook her head. "That’s a terrible sight. I kind of feel bad for them now," she expressed, feeling rather pity for them.
But Karl scoffed. "I don’t feel anything. That’s what they get for trying to get cocky with us. Next time, they should learn not to try attacking the same people they call monsters. That’s common sense."
Sunnie shook her head as she said, "So then I guess our business is done here. Let’s head home."
While they made their way, Luka casually asked, "Do you think some other tribe would also come for us soon?"
Sunnie casually shrugged. "I don’t know yet... but I have a feeling. So we’ll just have to see."
