Chapter 65: All on board
Eris panicked. "Huh? Scar? What scar are you talking about?" He was panicking about his perfect face!
Sunnie smiled with a shrug. "Well, the scar on your pretty face... It wouldn’t look so good..."
She smiled. "And your face.. is really not looking so good these days. I mean, maybe it’s because of the stress..." She sighed, staring at the panic in his face as he ran his hands through his face.
Sunnie smiled. "But I can help you with this. It’s not much. Can’t you see how our Azure is glowing?" She blinked. "Yours will be an easy fix!"
Eris blinked for a while in thought. "I knew something was wrong with my pretty face..." He said as he stared up at Sunnie. "Make sure you keep your word, this female!"
Sunnie smiled. "Sure. One hundred percent."
[Ding!]
[Host has successfully recruited Bear husband and Fox husband!]
Sunnie smiled as she turned to Zayn. He stood there staring at her without saying anything for a while.
"So? What do I get for being a part of this?" He inquired, raising a curious eyebrow.
Sunnie thought. She didn’t even know how to recruit Zayn! He’d been the mysterious husband whom she didn’t know much about!
When Sunnie hesitated without saying anything, Zayn let out a soft smile—one that was unreadable yet domineering. "Too bad, the female doesn’t know how to convince me."
But Sunnie smiled as she leaned close to him, their faces close as she said, "Because I don’t need to do that with you. I know you’ll join."
He smiled. "Is that so? That’s pretty bold of you."
Sunnie smiled as she ran a finger through his hair. "My dear tiger is reasonable enough to know what needs to be done.. so why do I have to stress it?"
Zayn scoffed as he stared at her. A cold aura ran through him as he said, "That’s pretty bold of you to presume." He sighed. "But I guess I’m bored. So I’ll stick around."
Sunnie smiled as she stepped backwards. "That’s more like it."
[Ding!]
[Tiger husband is onboard successfully!]
Now Sunnie knew who was left. The most stubborn.
She turned and stared at Karl with a smile.
"Don’t bother. I’m not a kid and won’t listen to whatever you have to say," he folded his arms, looking around.
Sunnie scoffed, almost rolling her eyes. She always lost her patience with him. "I wasn’t actually going to even try convincing you."
She turned to leave, folding both arms.
Karl stared at her, surprised.
She added, "I already know that you’re not up to the task. You can’t handle such hard labour like everyone else, so I’ll cut you some slack."
Karl had his eyes wide open in shock. "Not up to the task? What the hell are you talking about...?"
She smiled. "Isn’t that it? I understand you’re weak and scared.. so I won’t force you." She sighed as she said, "So everyone! Let’s get ready to begin work."
Pissed, Karl got up to his feet. "What rubbish! How dare you assume I’m weak?" He scoffed. "I’ll show you! I’ll show you that I’m the strongest here. I’ll work harder than everyone and show you how effective I can be."
Sunnie turned to him with a smile. "Oh? Is that so? Those are your words then.. I’m curious."
Zayn sat there staring at the fire with a smile. "Fool," he muttered.
Little Black stepped forward. "I want to help with the work too! Cut down trees or something!"
Zukka turned to him. "No. You can’t. You’re too little for that," he insisted.
"No I’m not! Leave me alone!" Little Black insisted, but Zukka wasn’t listening. He still insisted that he was too little for the work while the two of them bickered.
Sunnie smiled as she turned and stared at everyone. "Okay then! That settles it! We proceed with the work."
---
The men had started off with cutting down the trees and clearing the bushes around to make more space for themselves and what they wanted to build.
It was also for marking the space as their territory so any animal or beastmen who came around would know that someone was already inhabiting this space.
The men meticulously felled the trees and cleared the bushes around while the females picked up the leaves and crafted them into suitable shelter for creating a home.
The mice women seemed to have a good idea of it, so they taught Sunnie and Zuna how it was done as they all did it. The quiet woman sat at the side with her cub, watching in silence.
It was a fun atmosphere as they worked, watching the men do the cutting while Sunnie laughed at how competitive Karl was with it.
He flew over the trees, working as hard as possible while making sure no one outworked him.
Sunnie and the ladies discussed different things in the process of work while Little Black kept frowning.
He was forced to work with the ladies because he was too little, and he wasn’t happy at all.
"I want to cut trees too!" He insisted as Sunnie smiled at him.
"This is much more appropriate for you," Sunnie said as he frowned, picking leaves and pushing them to their sides as the women did the crafting.
They had worked for a long while now, and Sunnie could see the progress in the cutting of the trees. It could be finished today, and they could work towards erecting the habitations the next day.
While she thought about that, she got up to her feet to go and pick some branches for work when she suddenly felt a wave of dizziness run through her head.
Sunnie tried standing still but couldn’t. She felt pain rush through her head, dizziness, and some uncomfortable pain in her stomach. And without hesitation, she fell down on her back, unconscious.
She was so unconscious that she couldn’t tell who had gathered around her or who had even come to pick her up. She was fading and couldn’t think straight.
But at least she was sober enough to hear one of the ladies announce:
"She’s pregnant!"
