Chapter 67: The Biggest Threat
After her parents passed away, her uncle’s family held onto the savings they left behind. Melody Monroe never brought it up.
After all, one should be grateful.
She’d heard her uncle’s family was living in the house her parents had left behind.
Even so, she never felt a sense of belonging in that home.
At eighteen, as soon as her college entrance exams were over, she moved out of that home for good.
She didn’t take a single thing with her, aside from a few articles of clothing and some personal necessities.
She officially left her uncle and aunt’s care and began to support herself.
Now, in this rented apartment, Ian was letting her experience the feeling of home.
She placed a little toy house behind the two small figures, then pieced together a yard and set up a few small trees.
"Sweetheart, trust Mommy! Things will get better and better for us!"
...
As soon as Ian Monroe woke up, he ran to his mother’s room before he’d even changed his clothes. Everything inside was neatly arranged, but the room was empty.
’Mommy’s gone.’
The little boy stood in the room, his eyes red, but he held back his tears.
"Ian," the housekeeper called out.
Ian Monroe turned around, his usual quiet demeanor returning. Without a word, he walked back to his room to change and wash up. When he came to the dining table, he saw breakfast was already laid out.
"You’re having mini wontons today, Ian," the housekeeper said as she set out his bowl and utensils.
Ian Monroe took a bite, and a spark suddenly lit up his wide eyes.
"Mommy made this!"
"How did you know Mommy made it, Ian?"
Ian Monroe didn’t answer. He just lowered his head and finished all the mini wontons in his bowl. ’Of course I can tell when Mommy makes something. There’s nothing in the world more delicious than her cooking!’
...
After getting off the plane, Melody Monroe headed straight for the film set.
Raymond Ford was already there.
The crew was starting to get things ready.
Ever since Hailey Paige left the cast and Starfall Investments came on board, Raymond Ford had been feeling uneasy.
She had also spoken with Rose Shaw about whether Stellaris should put in more investment.
Rose Shaw refused outright.
The investment in this drama had already reached the company’s limit; any further funding was out of the question.
Starfall only invested because they had just signed Zane Langdon.
And Zane Langdon had agreed to be in this drama because of Director Wallace.
Raymond Ford could tell that Rose Shaw and Stellaris didn’t really have much faith in this drama.
She hadn’t been given the company’s best resources, either.
She knew that while she was the female lead in this drama, she probably couldn’t even land a significant role in a major production.
And now, the script had been revised again, and she had no idea how things would turn out.
She took out her mirror to touch up her makeup. No matter what, she had to present herself in the best possible light.
Regardless, she had to give a good performance. ’No one achieves success easily!’
’Raymond, keep it together!’ she told herself silently.
Seeing Raymond Ford, Melody Monroe walked over. "Raymond, you’re here so early?"
"Melody, you’re here!" Raymond Ford’s face immediately broke into a smile. She affectionately looped her arm through Melody Monroe’s. "Let’s go find the director together."
"Sure." Melody Monroe gently pulled her arm free and nodded.
Raymond Ford sensed Melody Monroe’s detachment and knew not to press for more intimacy. She secretly clenched her fists.
’Her other worry was Melody Monroe.’
’When Director Wallace called, he had only mentioned three people: Zane Langdon, her, and Melody Monroe.’
’Is Melody Monroe going to be cast as the second female lead again?! If so, the pressure on me will be even greater.’
