Chapter 137: I Did It on Purpose
Rose Shaw looked at Raymond Ford, a chill in her eyes. She pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
The gently rising smoke obscured the fleeting expression on Rose Shaw’s face.
Raymond Ford was still sobbing, her eyes red from crying.
’If Rose Shaw refuses to help me, this scandal will absolutely be the end of me!’
"Rose, that’s what happened. I really didn’t do something like that. Claire Ross was my classmate, yes, but her broken leg had nothing to do with me!" Raymond Ford clarified again.
"They can’t produce any real evidence right now, but this incident is having a huge impact on you."
"It must be Melody Monroe! She found Claire Ross and the others to smear my name just to frame me!"
"Your conflict with Claire Ross happened years ago. Even if Melody Monroe had a fight with you, she couldn’t possibly persuade Claire Ross. Besides, she doesn’t have the resources to bribe so many people at once," Rose Shaw said coldly.
Raymond Ford secretly suppressed the anger in her heart.
’How can Rose trust Melody Monroe so much? She’s so adamant that this has nothing to do with her.’
"What’s going on between you and Melody Monroe?" Rose Shaw asked.
"Rose," Raymond Ford called out, then started crying again as if she had suffered some great injustice.
Rose Shaw finished her cigarette and stubbed it out in the ashtray in front of her.
"What are you crying for! I want you to talk, not to cry."
Raymond Ford’s crying came to an abrupt halt. She dried her tears and continued, "Melody Monroe has been on a diet recently. I saw that she didn’t look well, so I just wanted to show her some concern. After all, she works for you too, Rose. I wanted to be friends with her. But this is what I get in return."
"Rose, you have to believe me. I really didn’t know Melody Monroe was allergic to seafood. And I have no idea why those photos and negative comments about her spread online. My fans must have been manipulated! But Melody Monroe is blaming me for everything."
Raymond Ford spoke with such pitiful innocence, taking no responsibility at all, as if she were the real victim.
"I don’t care how this started. I don’t want any more conflict between you and Melody Monroe!"
"Don’t worry, Rose. For your sake, I won’t let this situation get any worse."
"Good." Rose Shaw nodded. "I’ll handle the matter with Claire Ross. You just focus on your work."
"Yes!" Raymond Ford nodded immediately.
’The thing with Claire Ross is what worries me the most. If the truth really gets out, I’m really finished!’
...
After two days of treatment and rest, Melody Monroe’s allergic reaction had mostly subsided, and she no longer needed to be on an IV drip at the hospital.
Talia Mercer helped her with the discharge papers, and they returned to the hotel.
Rose Shaw was sitting in the hotel lobby, waiting for them.
As soon as she saw Melody Monroe and Talia Mercer, Rose Shaw stood up and walked toward them.
"Rose," Melody Monroe called out.
"Are you feeling better?"
"Much better."
"I came because there’s something I need to ask you."
"Mm," Melody Monroe nodded. She knew Rose Shaw would come looking for her.
Back in the room, Rose Shaw got straight to the point. "What exactly is going on between you and Raymond Ford?"
"Rose, the allergy incident... I did it on purpose."
Rose Shaw froze for a moment.
"Raymond Ford and I both work for you, Rose. I really did want to keep things peaceful on the surface, but that’s not what she wants. If she comes after me again, I’ll strike back just the same."
"Do you know Claire Ross?"
"I don’t. That incident has nothing to do with me," Melody Monroe clarified softly.
