They were so close. As Melody Monroe stared up close at the man she had fantasized about countless times, her heart began to pound wildly. A man who had once existed only in her fictional fantasies was standing right before her, alive and real!

’Oh my God!’

’Why couldn’t I have transmigrated into the body of some Mary Sue protagonist?’

’That way, I wouldn’t have to worry about a thing. I could just wait for the domineering CEO to fall for me—to love me, and only me, to love me to death!’

Evan Fairchild sprayed the antiseptic again. A cool sensation on her knee pulled Melody Monroe’s runaway thoughts back to reality.

’How dare I even think that!’

’I can provoke anyone, but not Evan Fairchild!’

’The original owner of this body loved Evan Fairchild so much, but in the end, she died by his hand.’

’All I want is to live a good, long life here, with only Ian to rely on.’

"Feeling any better?" Evan Fairchild asked again.

"Oh, yes, it’s better!"

Evan Fairchild tore open a sterile bandage and applied it to the cut on Melody Monroe’s knee. "The wound isn’t deep. This should be enough to take care of it."

"Right. Thank you, President Fairchild. I’ll be heading back now." Melody Monroe stood up, ready to leave.

’Surely, Evan Fairchild won’t try to keep me here any longer now, right?’

Melody Monroe walked toward the door, one step at a time.

The door, just a few steps away, seemed like an exit to a world of light. Behind her lay a boundless world of darkness, from which a demonic claw seemed to be reaching out for her.

It was such a short distance, but she was tempted to sprint it like a hundred-meter dash.

Just as her hand touched the doorknob, a voice suddenly called out from behind her.

"Wait."

Melody Monroe felt the hair on her head stand on end.

Feigning composure, she turned to look at Evan Fairchild. "President Fairchild, is there anything else?"

"You’re going to walk out like that? What if you run into someone?"

Melody Monroe looked down at the bathrobe she was wearing and furrowed her brow.

’He’s right. If I go out like this and someone sees me or takes a picture, there’s no way I’d be able to explain this.’

"I’ll call my assistant to bring me some clothes."

"I’ll have someone get them." Evan Fairchild picked up his phone and dialed Tommy’s number.

"President Fairchild!" Tommy answered immediately. At a time like this, he had to be ready at a moment’s notice.

"Go buy a set of clothes for Miss Monroe."

"President Fairchild, that’s not a good idea!" Melody Monroe felt extremely awkward. All she had to do was call Talia Mercer to bring something up! But Evan Fairchild gave her no room to object.

"It will be half an hour. You can take a shower first."

"I..." Melody Monroe was truly uncomfortable. Her whole body was soaked, and her hair was dripping. She really did want to take a hot shower right away.

’But taking a shower in Evan Fairchild’s room! I wouldn’t even dare to dream of it.’

"What do you think I’m going to do to you?"

"No, it’s not that, I..."

"Go on and take your shower."

A minute later, Melody Monroe stood in the luxurious bathroom, her mind in a complete jumble.

’I thought I was the one who knew the script, so what’s with this plot going completely off-script?!’

When Melody Monroe came out of the shower, a bag from a high-end clothing brand was sitting on the table.

Evan Fairchild had also changed his clothes. A high-end, custom-tailored suit had restored his usual aura, and he looked completely at ease.

He was now sitting on the sofa, drinking tea. His long, slender fingers held a delicate set of English porcelain, making him look impossibly noble and elegant.

Melody Monroe picked up the bag of clothes and headed for the bathroom.

Inside was a complete set of clothes, from the inside out. Her face flushed crimson.

She quickly changed, fixed her hair, and walked back out.

Evan Fairchild was adjusting his tie. His long fingers tightened the knot with meticulous precision. The appeal of such a stoic, self-controlled man was truly irresistible!

Once again, Melody Monroe found she couldn’t look away.
