Chapter 284: That Hurts, President Fairchild
It wasn’t surprising that Zane Langdon would be at every stop. After all, his relationship with Director Wallace was something special.
For his previous TV shows, Zane Langdon would only attend one or two events before disappearing from the rest.
"The first roadshow and fan meeting will probably be scheduled in Jansburg, around the day before the premiere. The staff should be notifying you soon."
"That’s perfect! I’m already in Jansburg. I don’t have to go back to Rockwellburg—I can just wait here."
"I’ll be in Jansburg tomorrow. Want to grab a meal together if you’re free?"
"Sure! And bring Jasper Rockwell. I’ll bring Keith Coleman, and we can all get together."
Zane Langdon stared at her reply, his fingertips twitching slightly.
After a long pause, he finally replied with a single word: Okay.
Melody Monroe put down her phone and explained the situation to Rose Shaw.
"That’s perfect. We don’t have to go back. I’ll stay here with you."
"Great! I’ll let Winter Kane, Talia Mercer, and Keith Coleman know they should come over too."
"Okay."
...
Evan Fairchild opened the door to a pitch-black room. He froze for a moment, only then realizing that coming back here had somehow become a habit.
Melody Monroe wasn’t here today, yet he had come back on autopilot.
He closed the door and went back downstairs.
Just as he started the car, a call came in from Keith Coleman.
"President Fairchild, good evening! I just got a call from Melody. She wants me to go to Jansburg tomorrow."
"Why does she want you in Jansburg?"
"*Warm Wind* is premiering early. They’re holding the first stop of the roadshow in Jansburg, plus a fan meet-and-greet."
"It’s premiering early?" Evan Fairchild hadn’t heard the news.
"I already looked into it for you. Zane Langdon pulled some strings to get the premiere moved up. Your rival is making his move! You’d better watch out! What’s more, he’s swooping in to save the day! And you? Take a look at what you’ve been doing lately. Is that how a person is supposed to act?!"
Evan Fairchild’s expression turned icy.
"That’s no way to woo a woman. Just look at Zane Langdon’s emotional intelligence. You’ve got to hand it to him on that front."
Since Keith Coleman wasn’t standing in front of Evan Fairchild, he felt bold enough over the phone to say whatever he wanted, and he made sure to twist the knife.
Evan Fairchild hung up, tossed his phone aside, and gunned the engine, speeding off into the night.
...
The next day, Keith Coleman happily packed his bags and wheeled his suitcase out the door.
Winter Kane and Talia Mercer were already downstairs waiting for him.
Keith Coleman put away his headphones and looked at Talia Mercer. "Aren’t you bringing any headphones? It’s so noisy on the plane; they help you get some sleep."
"You’re not taking the plane," Talia Mercer said, handing him a ticket. "This is for the high-speed rail."
Keith Coleman was speechless.
"What about you two?"
"We’re flying, of course," Talia Mercer said matter-of-factly.
"Why do you two get to fly while I have to take the train? Are you seriously treating me this differently?"
"The company is reimbursing our travel expenses. Melody is paying for yours out of her own pocket. You should be grateful she didn’t put you on a regular train."
Keith Coleman was speechless.
’Ouch, President Fairchild! Right where it hurts!’
...
Melody Monroe had already received the event schedule. This time, the entire main cast and crew would be there, at the Jansburg East Stadium.
She was also asked to perform an act.
This, however, was a problem.
For most celebrities, performing an act was second nature.
But Melody wasn’t professionally trained and had no particular talents. It was even more out of the question in her past life—she had been a total tomboy, and things like this were completely foreign to her.
"This is your chance to get more exposure, to gain more fans," Rose Shaw said, trying to encourage her.
