Chapter 252: Exclusive Ringtone
"I can’t say for sure what the gas mileage is, but it’s definitely not cheap," Winter Kane replied softly.
Melody Monroe thought she should probably return the car to Mr. Fairchild after this trip. There was no need for this extra expense.
She needed to save up for a house.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, Winter Kane suddenly noticed a gas card in the car.
He immediately got out and showed the card to Melody Monroe.
"We don’t have to worry about gas anymore."
Melody Monroe was speechless.
"Warren is so thoughtful! He even got a gas card ready," Talia Mercer said, nudging Melody Monroe’s shoulder.
"Let’s just get going, or we’ll be late."
Winter Kane hopped back in the car and started the engine.
The entire way, Melody Monroe’s mind was a jumble of thoughts, all about Evan Fairchild.
She might have just fallen in love, all on her own.
And it was the head-over-heels kind, too.
...
When Evan Fairchild arrived at the office, a neatly organized file was already sitting on his desk.
He had a meeting this morning, starting at 9:30.
He glanced at the time. Ten minutes to go.
"President Fairchild, the conference room is ready."
"I’ll be there in a moment."
Over twenty people were already seated in the conference room. All of them were looking down, busy with their work, their expressions grim and serious.
This was the most important meeting of the quarter.
Everyone present was a project lead.
They were terrified of making even the slightest mistake during the meeting, knowing that nothing, no matter how small, escaped President Fairchild’s sharp eye.
The entire conference room was eerily silent.
Evan Fairchild walked in, took his seat, and opened his laptop.
The moment he opened his laptop, a photo on the screen made him zone out for a second.
He immediately grabbed the mouse and dragged everything on his desktop to the side so that nothing would obstruct the photo.
Once everything was moved, he instantly felt much better.
The people in the room snuck glances at Evan Fairchild. President Fairchild was staring intently at his computer, and they wondered if he was already reading their reports.
Though each of them was a powerhouse in their own right, in front of Evan Fairchild, none dared to even breathe too loudly.
The first project lead finished his presentation and waited, trembling, for Evan Fairchild to speak.
"Mm," Evan Fairchild nodded, acknowledging him.
His eyes remained fixed on the computer screen. His gaze hadn’t shifted for over ten minutes.
The project lead sat back down, completely baffled as to what President Fairchild’s "Mm" was supposed to mean.
The next person scrambled to their feet to begin their report.
At every quarterly meeting, Evan Fairchild gave each person a strict fifteen-minute time slot.
If a project was behind schedule or inefficient, the project lead’s report would double as their farewell.
Evan Fairchild paid the highest salaries in the industry, but he didn’t tolerate freeloaders.
As the man gave his report, he kept stealing glances at Evan Fairchild.
In his nervousness, he misread a data point. His blood ran cold, but he quickly corrected himself.
Everyone noticed that President Fairchild didn’t say a word.
Now, he’d started looking at his phone.
With a sense of unease, the man continued his report.
Evan Fairchild opened WeChat and sent a message to Melody Monroe: "Have you arrived?"
When Melody Monroe heard her phone chime, she immediately pulled it out.
Talia Mercer got a gossipy look on her face. "Is that a custom ringtone? Melody, I don’t think I’ve heard that notification sound on your phone before."
"Just focus on your game. You’ve been playing for so long and still haven’t leveled up. I’m not taking you with me next time."
"Don’t give up on me! I’m trying my best to level up!" Talia Mercer immediately grabbed her phone and went back to grinding quests.
