Chapter 123: Even Someone So Stoic Can Make a Joke
Rose Shaw stood up and said to Melody Monroe, "I’ll let you know once the specific schedule is finalized."
"Okay."
"Take care of yourself. You need to maintain your weight, but also make sure you’re getting proper nutrition," Rose Shaw added.
"Don’t worry, Rose. I’ll make sure I’m in peak condition for work."
Rose Shaw took a set of keys from her purse and handed them to Melody Monroe. "This was my old car. It’s not getting any use, and it’s right here in Jansburg. You should use it for the time being. Having a car will make things easier."
"Rose, I don’t have a driver’s license."
"Of course I know you don’t. Let Winter Kane and Talia Mercer drive."
"Oh." Melody Monroe took the keys, a surge of gratitude warming her heart. "Thank you, Rose."
"Don’t thank me. I’ll sell it to you once you’ve made some money."
’Oh my god, Rose Shaw can actually crack a joke!’
Seeing Melody Monroe’s expression, the corners of Rose Shaw’s lips turned up slightly. "I’m kidding." With that, she turned her gaze to Raymond Ford. "Raymond, your schedule has been adjusted as well. I’ll send you the new version tomorrow."
"Thank you, Rose."
"I’m negotiating an endorsement deal for you with a top domestic brand. The competition is fierce, so I can’t be sure if I can land it."
Raymond Ford’s eyes lit up at the news, but then his expression immediately fell.
Rose had only said she was negotiating, not that she had succeeded. He didn’t dare to get his hopes up.
"Both of you, remember this: your own worth is the only standard people use to measure you. Right now, you don’t get to pick endorsements; endorsements pick you. And that’s because you don’t have enough star power! The only thing that can raise your value is your body of work."
"We understand, Rose," Raymond Ford said at once.
"Furthermore, what happened with Rhona Hughes is a warning. I don’t want any of my people running into that kind of trouble. If I find out, I will show no mercy!"
Raymond Ford was intimidated by Rose Shaw’s piercing gaze and gave a slight nod.
"Mhm." Melody Monroe nodded as well.
"I’ll let you get back to your work. I’m heading out."
"Rose, let me see you out," Raymond Ford said, immediately following after her.
"Goodbye, Rose." Melody Monroe waved, watching the backs of Rose Shaw and Raymond Ford as they walked away.
"Melody, Raymond Ford is such an attention-seeker!" Talia Mercer couldn’t help but complain. "Rose was obviously here to see you, but he was stuck to her like glue."
Melody Monroe could tell that Raymond Ford was terrified.
He was afraid Rose Shaw’s resources would shift, afraid she would focus all her energy on Melody.
Melody Monroe looked at the car keys in her hand, a warm feeling spreading through her chest.
Rose Shaw was the kind of person who kept everything bottled up. Her painful past made her unwilling to ever show her true emotions.
"Let’s have Winter Kane bring the car back," Melody Monroe said, handing the keys to Talia Mercer.
"You got it! Rose is a total lifesaver. She gives us exactly what we need, right when we need it!"
Melody Monroe smiled and nodded.
’If Rose Shaw knew where her biological sister was right now, how would she react? Would she acknowledge her?’
’But I have no idea where Rose Shaw’s sister actually is!’
’In the original novel, Rose Shaw’s sister wasn’t mentioned until more than ten years from now, and only after Rose found out about her connection to the original story’s heroine.’
’And by then, she was already dead. Even though she was the heroine’s biological mother, she was a character with even less of a presence than cannon fodder.’
’Ian is only three, which means the original male lead must be born this year.’
’The original male lead... is the son of Christopher Sterling, the president of Stellaris Entertainment.’
