Chapter 282: Blacklisted
"Thank you." Rose Shaw turned and walked out.
A bitter feeling welled up in her heart again. Ten years. She had been with Christopher Sterling for a full ten years.
Looking back now, those ten years had passed in the blink of an eye.
In the past, a simple word of concern from him could send waves crashing through her heart. Even a week later, the memory would fill her with sweetness.
But now, she saw his words for what they were: simple courtesy, a polite greeting.
They carried the same weight as "hello" or "goodbye."
Back in her office, Rose Shaw immediately contacted the director of a film that was still in the casting process.
The director’s name was Yuri Walsh, one of the new-generation directors.
His last film grossed six hundred million at the box office, an impressive figure for a low-budget movie.
Rose Shaw decided to start with him.
Melody Monroe was sitting in the living room, watching TV out of boredom. In the past, she watched for pure entertainment, but now, there was an element of study involved.
She specifically sought out and watched films starring veteran actors, studying their performances.
Suddenly, the phone sitting beside her rang.
"Rose!"
"I just got off the phone with Director Walsh. He’s preparing a new film, and the cast hasn’t been finalized. He’s agreed to meet with us. Tomorrow, you and I need to make a trip to Jansburg."
"Great! What time tomorrow?"
"We’ll head to the airport at nine in the morning. I’ll have Winter Kane come pick you up and drive us there."
"Okay, I’ll go pack right away!"
"Melody..."
"What is it, Rose?"
"Nothing’s set in stone yet, so you..."
"I know. Don’t worry, Rose. It’s just an opportunity. If it doesn’t pan out, it doesn’t pan out. I’m used to it by now!"
"Alright. See you tomorrow."
Melody Monroe put down her phone and pulled out her suitcase. She packed a couple of outfits and some toiletries. The trip shouldn’t last more than a few days, so she didn’t bring much.
When Evan Fairchild got home, the first thing he saw was the suitcase in the living room.
Melody Monroe was busy in the kitchen.
Hearing footsteps, Melody Monroe turned to look at Evan Fairchild. "Why are you back so early?"
"I didn’t have to pick up Ian Monroe today, so I came back early." If he had to pick up Ian, he’d have to wait until kindergarten let out. But since he didn’t, he could come home whenever he pleased.
"Going on a business trip?" Evan Fairchild asked.
"Yeah, I’m heading to Jansburg tomorrow."
"What for? I thought you didn’t have any new roles."
"Rose set up a meeting with Director Walsh. We’re going to Jansburg to meet with him."
Evan Fairchild fell silent.
’It’s useless. The meeting will be a waste of time!’
’When is she finally going to agree to leave Stellaris?’
’This time, he wouldn’t be the one to bring it up. He was tired of being rejected.’
’In his entire life, no one had ever rejected him so thoroughly.’
"Why don’t you go rest for a bit? I’ll finish up here. Since it’s just the two of us tonight, I’ll make something simple."
Evan Fairchild suddenly swept Melody Monroe into his arms, switched off the stove, and strode toward the bedroom.
...
Melody Monroe and Rose Shaw arrived in Jansburg and settled into their hotel. Then, Rose Shaw called Yuri Walsh.
"Rose, I’m so sorry, but I’m not free today," Yuri Walsh’s voice came through the phone.
"Director Walsh, I understand. Are you free tomorrow? When would be a good time? We’re already in Jansburg, so we’re flexible and can meet whenever is convenient for you."
"Tomorrow isn’t great for me either."
