Chapter 323: Detained by Evan Fairchild?
Winter Kane had to call five times before it finally went through.
Melody Monroe clutched her phone as she ran for the elevator. "Winter Kane, I’m almost there! I’m coming down now."
She jogged into the garage, and Winter Kane immediately pulled the car around.
...
Rose Shaw glanced at the time. Melody Monroe was already fifteen minutes late. She was just about to call her when she spotted a familiar car approaching from a distance.
The moment the car stopped, Melody Monroe quickly threw open the door and ran toward Rose Shaw.
"I’m sorry, Rose. I’m late."
"It’s fine. Let’s go in." ’As long as you made it, that’s what counts.’
’Rose had been worried that after she’d dealt with Keith Coleman, Evan Fairchild might have held Melody up again.’
Melody Monroe hurried inside after Rose Shaw.
"Rose, you look terrible. Are you not feeling well?" Melody noticed Rose looked haggard; even makeup couldn’t completely hide it.
Her voice was a little hoarse, too.
"It’s nothing. I had a few drinks last night and went to bed late," Rose Shaw explained softly.
"Did you go drinking with Director Hughes?" Melody Monroe quickly asked.
"Felix Hughes and I went back to the hotel right after dinner. He keeps a very strict schedule and has no nightlife. We’re from different worlds."
"He’s still the same as when we were kids, not much has changed. But I’m not the person I used to be."
"Yesterday, he confessed his feelings for me. He told me he’s been looking for me all these years. He’s a good man. He’s looking for a virtuous wife and loving mother to have his children and build a happy family with."
Listening to all this, Melody Monroe didn’t know what to say.
"Rose, Melody." The moment Felix Hughes saw them, he came forward and greeted them warmly. "Rose, what’s wrong? You don’t look well. Was it... did what I said last night bother you?"
"No, I’m a night owl. I just went to bed a little late, that’s all."
’Melody Monroe could tell that Felix Hughes genuinely liked Rose Shaw.’
"Come on, let’s go sit in the lounge for a bit." Felix Hughes led them into a conference room. "I’ll have someone come talk through the details with you. If there are no issues, we can sign the contract right away."
"Okay," Rose Shaw nodded.
A few minutes later, a young woman came in with a tray. On it were some pastries and two glasses of thick soy milk.
"Director Hughes arranged this for you. Please, enjoy."
"Rose, you probably haven’t had breakfast yet, have you?" Melody Monroe asked softly.
"I drank too much last night. My stomach feels like it’s on fire, I can’t eat a thing."
"That’s not good for you. Look, Director Hughes was thoughtful enough to have this prepared. You should eat a little something to line your stomach." Melody Monroe picked up a glass of soy milk and handed it to Rose Shaw.
Rose Shaw took it and had a sip.
The warm soy milk soothed her burning, aching stomach, making her feel much more comfortable. It wasn’t as bad now, and she felt like she could eat something.
"Did you eat breakfast?" Rose Shaw asked Melody Monroe.
"I ate." ’And Evan Fairchild made it for me!’
’A sandwich and a glass of milk.’
Just as Rose Shaw finished eating, there was a knock on the door.
Felix Hughes walked in with a man and a woman.
Seeing that the soy milk glass in front of Rose Shaw was empty and the pastries on the table were mostly gone, Felix Hughes seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
His gaze, as he looked at Rose Shaw, was gentle and full of concern.
"Miss Monroe, this is the contract. Please take a look." One of the newcomers placed the contract in front of Melody Monroe.
