Chapter 274: Mr. Fairchild, Your Laugh Is So Unrestrained
The car had been driven out and was parked in an open area.
Melody Monroe fell completely in love with it at first sight.
The car was champagne-colored, shimmering dazzlingly under the sunlight.
"Do you like it?"
"Mhm," Melody Monroe nodded.
"Go on, try it out."
Melody Monroe sat in the driver’s seat, Evan Fairchild sat in the passenger seat, and Ian Monroe sat in the back.
She held the car keys, completely baffled. Looking over at Evan Fairchild, she said, "This car... is different from the instructor’s."
The client manager standing nearby stumbled, almost falling to the ground.
’Mrs. Fairchild is so funny,’ he thought. ’How could they possibly be the same!’
Sitting there, Melody Monroe had no idea how to even start the car. The joy of having just gotten her license was all but gone!
Evan Fairchild watched her helpless expression and raised a hand to hide the smile at the corner of his lips.
Seeing him smile made Melody Monroe even more embarrassed. "Mr. Fairchild, maybe we shouldn’t buy this one. How about we get the same model as my instructor’s? I know how to drive that kind."
Not only did Evan Fairchild not stop smiling, but his shoulders began to shake as he couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
It was the first time Melody Monroe had ever seen him laugh so... unrestrainedly!
Ian Monroe had been waiting excitedly to ride in his mom’s car, but now she was saying she didn’t know how to drive it! He didn’t understand why.
Melody Monroe’s face flushed red. She glanced at Evan Fairchild—he was still laughing! She felt even more mortified.
"You can do it, Mom!" Ian Monroe quickly cheered her on.
"Mommy knows where the gas pedal is, but I don’t know how to shift gears!" Melody Monroe felt so humiliated. ’Forget it, I’m not driving!’
Just as she was about to unbuckle her seatbelt, Evan Fairchild placed his hand over hers.
"I’ll teach you."
"How about you two get out first, and let him teach me."
The suddenly singled-out client manager’s legs went weak.
’A beginner! How terrifying!’
Melody Monroe had zero confidence. The two men she loved most in the world, Evan Fairchild and Ian, were in the car with her.
"You don’t need him. I’ll teach you. The key goes in here. Turn it all the way."
Melody Monroe immediately inserted the key. When she heard the engine roar to life, she jumped in fright.
Watching Melody Monroe’s reaction, the client manager beside the car sucked in a sharp breath.
’Mr. Fairchild sure is bold!’
"The gearshift is here. Here’s the handbrake—pull it down. This is Drive. A little push up is Reverse. The steering wheel functions are mostly the same. Turn signal on the left, wipers."
With his explanation, Melody Monroe felt like she was starting to get the hang of it.
"Try to get it moving."
Melody Monroe did as he said, and the car slowly began to move forward.
The moment the car started moving, Melody Monroe’s nervousness vanished. After a few laps around the dealership’s lot, her confidence returned.
"Which is easier to drive, the instructor’s car or this one?" Evan Fairchild asked.
"This one," Melody Monroe admitted with an embarrassed nod.
A satisfied smile appeared in Evan Fairchild’s eyes.
’That’s more like it!’
"Alright, let’s go for a drive," Evan Fairchild said leisurely, leaning back against his seat.
"Aren’t you scared?" Melody Monroe herself was afraid; driving on the actual road was nothing like being here.
"Don’t be scared. You have to drive on the road sooner or later," Evan Fairchild comforted her, then added, "Don’t worry. As long as you don’t hit anyone, no one should dare to hit you."
Melody Monroe was speechless.
The client manager was aghast. ’Why is he being so brutally honest!’
"You can do it, Mom!" Ian Monroe continued to cheer her on, leaning over the back of the front seat.
Melody Monroe took a deep breath, stepped on the gas, and drove toward the exit.
The client manager kept waving until the car was out of sight, then let out a long sigh of relief.
"President Fairchild... he’s really in a class of his own!"
At first, he had thought Melody Monroe was just some woman President Fairchild was keeping. But it turned out she was the real Mrs. Fairchild, and the young Mr. Fairchild was already old enough to run errands!
