Chapter 188: As Expected, Kids Are the Most Troublesome
"President Fairchild, you don’t have to come get me. I can make my own way there," Melody replied, setting her phone aside.
"Alright. I’ll be waiting for you."
Melody bit her lower lip as she stared at the instant reply.
’Fine! We’ll sleep together!’
’For a girl who’s never been in a relationship, this is a total score!’
Thoroughly disguised, Melody arrived at the hotel and headed straight for the elevator.
Evan Fairchild was in the room, calculating the time. Even if Melody took her sweet time, she should be arriving any moment.
"Is Mommy coming?" Ian was even more impatient than he was.
Evan Fairchild saw Ian pop out of the cardboard box again. He immediately pushed him back down and, while he was at it, tore the ribbon bow off the box and tied it around the boy’s neck.
Ian looked down at the bow. "Why do I have to wear this?"
"It adds a sense of occasion."
Ian immediately straightened the bow with the same seriousness he would use to adjust a formal bow tie.
"Is Mommy almost here?"
"Don’t be impatient. Hide properly! If Mommy sees you the second she opens the door, what kind of surprise would that be?"
Ian immediately and obediently crouched back down in the box.
Evan Fairchild closed the lid. "Mommy will open the box in a little while. You can come out then, got it? And don’t make a single sound."
"Got it," Ian replied obediently.
Standing outside the door, Melody took a deep breath, then raised her hand to knock.
Evan Fairchild walked over and opened the door.
Melody walked into the room with her head down and took off her mask and sunglasses.
Evan raised his hand, his long, slender fingers weaving through her hair. "Why is your hair still wet?"
"I just got out of the shower. I didn’t have time to dry my hair completely," Melody explained as she walked further into the room.
Although she appeared calm, her heart was threatening to beat out of her chest. She kept taking deep breaths, hoping to calm her frantic nerves.
’What was she supposed to do now?’
’Should she take the initiative? Or wait for him to make the first move?’
"I have a gift for you," Evan Fairchild said, glancing at a box sitting off to the side.
Melody glanced at it but made no move to open the gift.
’A box that big... how many gifts could be inside?’
’Rich people really are different. Even their gifts are so extravagant.’
"Go on, open it."
Melody suddenly walked toward Evan Fairchild. She awkwardly raised her hands and, after a few hesitant attempts, managed to place them on his waist.
Evan Fairchild...
"President Fairchild, forget the gift. Let’s just... get started." Melody closed her eyes, looking like a martyr bravely facing her execution.
"Get started?" Evan Fairchild was stunned.
Then, he immediately understood what she meant.
’She thought he’d asked her here to...’
He glanced at the exquisitely wrapped box. ’What should I do? I feel like I should just throw the whole thing out.’
Ian sat in the box, not daring to move a muscle. ’Why hasn’t Mommy come to find me yet? Why isn’t she opening the box!’
Melody waited for a moment. When Evan Fairchild didn’t move, she awkwardly pulled her hands back.
Suddenly, he grabbed her hand. Her body felt weightless as he swept her up into his arms!
"President Fairchild."
"Shh!"
...
Ian sat in the box, fiddling with his fingers. He’d been silently counting to himself.
’It’s been almost five minutes since Mommy came in!’
’Why hasn’t Mommy come to open the box yet?’
There was a round hole on the side of the box. He shifted over, trying to peek through it.
Suddenly, his body swayed, and he bumped against the side of the box.
Melody’s body suddenly went rigid, and she pulled away from Evan.
"President Fairchild, did you just hear something?"
"No!"
"I thought I heard..."
"Oof!" Ian yelped, having tripped again while trying to stand up.
