Chapter 264: Worth Three Thousand
Winter Kane and Talia Mercer accompanied Melody Monroe out of the private hospital.
Melody looked around but didn’t see Rose Shaw.
"Rose said she’d be waiting for us outside," Talia Mercer speculated. "You don’t think she got stuck in traffic, do you?"
Winter Kane scanned the area, and her eyes landed on a car across the street.
"Isn’t that Rose’s car?" Winter Kane pointed.
Rose Shaw pushed the door open and got out, calling coldly to Keith Coleman inside, "Get out!"
"I swear, I just saw a hair on your shirt and wanted to get it for you. I really wasn’t being a creep."
Rose Shaw ignored him.
Keith Coleman clutched his face. It really hurt.
’She’s so strong. She must have had some training, right?’
’If I had actually managed to touch her, getting slapped would have been worth it. But my hand had only just started reaching over, and there really was a hair!’
’Never mind. It hurts!’
’Feels like she almost knocked my teeth out.’
Keith Coleman got out of the car and worked his jaw. He followed Rose Shaw toward Melody and the others.
Rose Shaw had already explained the situation when she called.
Melody knew the man standing beside Rose was that extremely active fan from before.
’Seeing him in person, he really is... quite fashionable, very avant-garde, and... hard to put into words.’
’It was only when he got closer that I could be sure he was a man.’
"Melody! Oh my god! I finally get to meet you! I’m so excited!"
Melody’s smile froze. ’What over-the-top acting.’
"H-Hello," she said, then looked toward Rose Shaw. "Rose, I need to talk to you."
Rose followed Melody to one side.
"This guy doesn’t seem very reliable. Is he really the right choice for this job?"
"He was an agent overseas and knows the industry inside and out. I think he’s a good fit."
Melody was unfamiliar with a character like Keith Coleman; it seemed he didn’t even exist in the original novel.
She didn’t know that Keith Coleman was using a hidden identity and hadn’t revealed his true self.
If he had revealed his true identity, Rose Shaw would certainly have recognized him. He, a renowned international entertainment power player, had been tossed over by Fairchild to play the part of a nobody. He felt pretty damn wronged.
Since Rose had put it that way, there wasn’t much Melody could say.
She trusted Rose’s judgment. Rose was a good judge of character.
"He has one other condition: he won’t join Stellaris. You’ll have to hire him personally. Having someone like him around will be a huge help to you. He might not look reliable, but he has a very effective way of getting things done." Rose had already vetted him.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been comfortable placing someone with a completely unknown background by Melody’s side.
"I have to hire him personally?" Melody was even more against the idea now. "How much would his salary be? I’d have to pay it myself, right?"
"Mm-hm. I’ve already requested two assistants for you; that’s the maximum number the company allocates to its artists. Besides, Keith himself doesn’t want to be a company employee."
"So what would be a reasonable salary?"
"Winter Kane makes over ten thousand a month, and Talia makes over eight thousand."
"In that case, I’ll start him at three thousand."
Rose Shaw: "..." "That’s for you to decide."
Keith Coleman, of course, had no idea that his market value had just plummeted from thirty million to three thousand. And that his new employer was only taking him on begrudgingly.
’Another unnecessary expense,’ Melody thought privately. ’It’s not like I’m short on personal assistants!’
She then thought of Jasper Rockwell, Zane Langdon’s personal assistant. He was paid by Starfall, she seemed to recall, though she had no idea how much.
