Chapter 49: What a Scene
Rhona Hughes had gotten a manicure. In her nervousness just now, her nail scraped Raymond Ford’s face, drawing a thin line of blood. She panicked at the sight.
"I’m sorry, Raymond, I didn’t mean to!"
"Cut!" Director Wallace yelled, furious. "Rhona Hughes, what are you doing! The take was going so well! Why did you stop to apologize?!"
"Director, I hurt Raymond Ford’s face!" Rhona Hughes immediately explained.
Director Wallace looked over at Raymond Ford and saw a small scratch.
Raymond Ford had felt something was wrong the moment he was struck. Hearing what Rhona Hughes said, the color drained from his face.
"A mirror! A mirror!"
Leah Young immediately brought a mirror over.
Raymond Ford snatched it from her. Looking at the scratch on his cheek, a venomous glint flashed in his eyes.
"Raymond, let’s go get that treated. Thankfully the cut isn’t deep, but it is bleeding," Leah Young said, pulling Raymond Ford aside.
They left without so much as a word to Director Wallace.
Director Wallace suppressed his rage. ’At this rate, when will we ever finish filming?!’
Rhona Hughes stood rooted to the spot, at a complete loss. ’I really didn’t do it on purpose.’
Raymond Ford glanced back at Rhona Hughes. He didn’t believe for a second that it was an accident. He would remember this slap.
And he would make sure Rhona Hughes paid him back double.
"Director, what now? Are we still filming?" the assistant director asked Director Wallace.
"Of course we’re still filming! Get a close-up of Rhona Hughes. After that, we’ll shoot the scene where Raymond Ford slaps her!"
...
Jasper Rockwell couldn’t help but smile. "It’s quite lively here."
"It certainly is," Melody Monroe replied softly.
"I’m going to go see Zane Langdon first. I’ll come find you again later." Jasper Rockwell stood up and walked toward Zane Langdon.
Melody Monroe watched him go, finding it a little strange. ’He’s Zane Langdon’s assistant. Why does he keep coming to find me?’
...
After finishing her shot, Rhona Hughes immediately ran up to Raymond Ford. "Raymond, are you okay? I really didn’t mean to do it."
Raymond Ford suppressed the boiling rage in his heart and said with feigned ease, "It’s fine. You acted really well just now, truly in character."
"Really?" Rhona Hughes affectionately took Raymond Ford’s hand. "I still feel terrible about it. Raymond, I know you’re the kindest, nicest person."
"We’re all just doing our jobs! When we’re filming, we have to fully immerse ourselves in our roles. Don’t worry, I won’t hold it against you. But when I hit you later, don’t you get angry either. You know how high Director Wallace’s standards are."
"Don’t worry, of course I won’t be angry!" Rhona Hughes nodded solemnly.
...
Jasper Rockwell walked up to Zane Langdon. "Zane, President Fairchild sent me to be your personal assistant. My name is Jasper Rockwell."
Zane Langdon stood and extended his hand. "Hello."
Although Jasper Rockwell was supposedly here to be his personal assistant, his status was clearly special. Zane didn’t dare actually make him handle his daily affairs.
Judging by his relationship with President Fairchild, he couldn’t be just anyone.
’Besides, his last name is Rockwell. I wonder what his connection is to the Rockwell Family of Rockwellburg.’
After the brief greeting, Jasper Rockwell considered his task complete and turned to find Melody Monroe again. ’Being Zane’s assistant is just a cover; watching over Melody is the real job. With a one-million-dollar reward on the line, I’d better do my work well.’
’Who knows, I might be able to earn back my entire annual budget for my car habit just by following Melody Monroe!’
He made up his mind. ’I have to stick close to Melody Monroe.’
...
"All departments, get ready. We’re rolling."
At the shout, everyone sprang into action.
