Chapter 215: An Extra Insurance
"Did your mom really say that?" Evan Fairchild confirmed once more.
"Yeah," Ian Monroe nodded earnestly. "I’m going to save up lots of money too, and give it all to Mom."
Evan Fairchild felt his chest tighten.
’When I get back, I’m telling Claire Walsh to cancel all of Ian Monroe’s future allowance!’
The plane hadn’t taken off yet. Evan Fairchild turned the phone he’d just powered down back on and quickly dialed Tommy’s number.
"President Fairchild! I just dropped Melody off at the hotel!" Tommy’s voice immediately came through.
"When you transfer the title for the house, add my name to the deed."
"Yes, sir," Tommy replied.
He was completely baffled, however. ’Why had President Fairchild suddenly changed his mind?’
’Didn’t he say to buy it in her name alone at first? Now he wants to add his own?’
After giving his instructions, Evan Fairchild turned off his phone again. He met Ian Monroe’s gaze and elegantly adjusted his suit.
’So, as soon as she can afford that eighty-million house, she plans to take Ian and leave?! That woman... does she really think money is all it takes to cut ties with me?’
’How naive!’
’They might not have a marriage certificate, but adding his name to the deed was a form of insurance.’
’The house in Jansburg would then be their joint property.’
’It’s a good thing Ian told me all this today. Otherwise, I’d still be in the dark about Melody’s plans.’
Ian Monroe looked up, studying Mr. Fairchild. "What were you smiling about just now?"
"Was I smiling?"
"You were! And it was a very sly smile."
"Sly? Ian Monroe, don’t you think you should pick a different word? Is that any way to describe your father?"
"Tell me! What are you scheming?" Ian Monroe had a faint feeling that this had something to do with his mom.
"Ian Monroe, I have you to thank."
"Why are you thanking me?" Ian Monroe felt a surge of panic.
"Sit tight. The plane is about to take off." Evan Fairchild didn’t answer, simply picking up a newspaper and starting to read.
Ian Monroe shot him a few glances, his little face a mask of confusion. But he just couldn’t figure out what his dad was up to.
’Mr. Fairchild is the worst!’
...
Melody Monroe finished reading the script and looked up at Director Wallace and the screenwriter, Lucy Warren.
"You’re the only one who knows this ending, and it will be kept completely confidential during filming," Director Wallace explained to Melody.
Melody knew just how pivotal these final scenes were.
’Her character develops such a powerful presence later in the story. To give her an ending like this would create a stunning contrast. And it was so heartbreaking.’
She had existed like a dream, and in the end, she vanished like one.
To have loved, and loved deeply...
Therefore, even if her life was short, it was without regret.
"You’re about to wrap on this film. After that, we’ll need to go on location to shoot this extra scene."
"Of course! I’m available anytime." Melody Monroe nodded seriously and thanked Director Wallace from the heart. "Director Wallace, thank you."
"You’re a fine actress. You deserve to go far in your career."
"I will continue to work hard!"
...
After several days of intense filming, Melody’s part was wrapped.
After changing out of her costume and removing her makeup, Melody walked out of the dressing room to find Zane Langdon standing outside, holding a large bouquet of fresh flowers.
"These are for you." Zane Langdon stepped forward, offering the bouquet to Melody.
"Thank you." Melody was just about to accept them.
Suddenly, a figure dashed over and snatched the bouquet away.
