Chapter 58: Dads are the Most Useless

Ian looked at the photos, his little cheeks flushed with shyness.

It was the first time he had ever taken a picture with his mom.

Melody couldn’t help but snap a few more before putting her phone away.

Soon, the meal was ready. Melody set the dishes on the table, then took Ian by the hand to change his clothes. The little guy’s sleeves were all wet.

Ian picked out a change of clothes, and Melody sat on his small bed, helping him get dressed.

Just as his little head popped out of his shirt, he suddenly asked Melody, "Mom, do I have a dad?"

Melody froze.

’She hadn’t even thought about how to handle this question yet. And today, it had suddenly come up.’

’How should I answer?’

Seeing Melody’s hesitation, Ian quickly said, "Mom, I asked around. All the other kids have dads, but every kid is born from a mommy. So, what are dads good for?"

’This question was even harder to answer than the last one.’

Before Melody could think of an answer, Ian added with a serious expression, "I also asked my teacher."

"You asked your teacher? What did you ask?"

"My teacher said so, too. Only mommies can have babies. So, I don’t need a dad. I just need my mommy."

Melody was speechless.

"My dad would be your husband. Mom, do you need a husband?"

An image of Evan Fairchild flashed through Melody’s mind, and she immediately shook her head. "I don’t need a husband."

Ian let out a sigh of relief. "I don’t need a dad either! Then from now on, it’ll just be you and me, Mom!" ’Why did he sound so happy about that?’ she wondered.

"I think dads are the most useless. They can’t even have babies, and they need a mommy to take care of them. That would be too tiring for you."

Melody was speechless.

’So this is the kind of topic they were discussing in kindergarten?’

"Yes, just you and me! We don’t need anyone else!" Melody was surprised; she hadn’t expected him to have thought it all through so thoroughly on his own.

Ian nodded happily.

"Come on, let’s go eat! I also have a surprise gift for you."

Ian was already perfectly happy. ’Mom not only came back for me, but she also picked me up from kindergarten and cooked me delicious food. That’s the best gift of all!’

They went to the dining table, and Melody took out the gift she had prepared earlier.

Ian glanced at it but didn’t seem very interested.

"Don’t you like it?" ’She’d spent a lot of money on this, gritting her teeth as she bought it!’

"I like you, Mom."

A wave of sweetness washed over Melody. "You’re such a sweet-talker! You really know how to make your mommy happy!"

"Let’s eat, Mom."

"Okay. Here, have some shrimp and vegetables. You need to eat a lot so you can grow up big and tall!"

Ian gobbled up his food, his little face practically buried in his bowl.

"Slow down, don’t choke!" Just watching the little guy eat was enough to fill Melody with contentment.

They finished every dish on the table until their stomachs were round and full.

"Why don’t you go watch some TV, Ian? I’m going to tidy up the kitchen."

"I’ll help!"

"Okay, together it is!"

Melody realized her little guy was like her own little shadow. And when it came to helping, he was surprisingly competent, not making a mess at all. He was like a capable little assistant.

"Alright, everything’s clean. Now I’m going to go tidy up my room. You can go play by yourself, Ian."

"I’ll help!"

Melody was speechless.
