He saw Melody Monroe leaning over the small table, staring at the cake and biting her finger. The sight was so adorable his heart melted.

Melody Monroe was still torn, but she finally surrendered and took another bite.

Evan Fairchild walked over and sat down in front of her.

Melody Monroe quickly straightened up and glanced at him.

Even sitting down, he was so much taller than her that she had to tilt her head back to meet his eyes. Just one glance and her heart began to race.

His hair was still a little damp, and he gave off a warm, clean scent. It was the kind of warmth that seared the heart.

"Why aren’t you eating? Don’t you like it?"

"It’s delicious! I’ve never had cake this delicious before." Melody Monroe nodded vigorously.

Right then, she was like a child, wanting it desperately but holding back, reluctant to finish it.

"Don’t worry, it won’t make you fat."

"You’re lying." Melody Monroe shook her head.

"I’m not. It’s all low-calorie."

Melody Monroe’s willpower was already as fragile as paper.

Evan Fairchild picked up the fork and knife, cut the cake into several pieces, and placed a slice in front of Melody Monroe.

Melody Monroe was truly starving. It was as if she’d been tempted by a demon; she had no self-control left.

"Just this one small slice," Evan Fairchild said.

’Right now, he’s that demon!’

Melody Monroe took a small bite. The cake melted in her mouth—sweet, tangy, and cool.

Watching her enjoy it, Evan Fairchild asked, "Is it really that good?"

"Mhm, mhm. You should try it." She held it out for Evan Fairchild.

Evan Fairchild leaned in, took a bite, and nodded.

"See? It’s really good."

"Mhm," Evan Fairchild nodded. "Another bite."

Melody Monroe held it out again. It wasn’t until after Evan had taken the bite that she realized she was feeding him cake! Just as she was about to pull her hand back, Evan Fairchild suddenly grabbed her wrist.

A bit of cake was stuck to her fingertip, and he ate it right off her finger!

Even though they had done things far more intimate than this, Melody Monroe still felt her face burn and her heartbeat go haywire.

Evan Fairchild looked up. Seeing her flustered expression, a glint of amusement flashed in his eyes.

"How did your meeting go yesterday?"

"It’s for a reality show. I think it’ll be fun, and I’m going to sign the contract tomorrow," Melody Monroe reported happily.

Evan Fairchild’s brow tightened.

’Keith Coleman still hasn’t messaged me. That means this isn’t settled yet!’

"Haven’t you received any good script offers? Shouldn’t an actor focus on acting? Why are you participating in a show like this?"

’If I had a proper acting role, I wouldn’t be doing this either.’

’But there was a much more practical reason: the money!’

’One month on the show, and the fee is five million!’

’Once this show is finished, I’ll have more than enough money to buy a small four-bedroom apartment!’

Melody Monroe was secretly delighted at the thought of her first major goal being within reach.

She was genuinely happy, which only made Evan Fairchild more frustrated.

’I wonder how things are going on Keith’s end.’

’Keith still hasn’t gotten back to me. He must have run into some trouble.’

...

"I don’t care what it takes, you *have* to get Felix Hughes to recast the role!" Keith Coleman’s voice rose sharply.

"That Felix Hughes is like a rock in a latrine—stinky and stubborn! We’ve tried everything! Nothing’s working."

Keith Coleman scratched his head, pacing furiously around the room.

’This is the first time I’ve ever had to deal with someone like this!’
