Chapter 173: It’s the Worst
’My Ian is always so, so adorable when he eats,’ she thought. ’How could he possibly look this dopey!’
After seeing the photos, Melody Monroe took a deep breath, then quickly opened her phone’s photo album to send over a few adorable pictures of Ian Monroe.
The moment the phone chimed, Ian Monroe, who was reading on the sofa, immediately shot to his feet.
"Did Mom text back?"
Evan Fairchild glanced at his phone but didn’t answer Ian.
"Mr. Fairchild, did Mom text back?" Ian Monroe asked again, trying to be patient.
Evan Fairchild played the voice message.
"Mr. Fairchild, look at the photos I sent."
Evan Fairchild turned to look at Ian. "It’s a message from your mother, but she sent it to me, not you."
Ian’s little face tightened. "Just you wait! My mom will ask about me any second now!"
Evan Fairchild sent a text: *Is the shoot over for today?*
*The shoot’s over. I just got back to the hotel. I have another appearance tomorrow.*
After sending the message, Melody Monroe realized she was telling Evan Fairchild all this useless trivia. He wouldn’t have time to listen to her work schedule.
’Why am I even talking to Evan Fairchild about this!’
Just as she was about to unsend the message, another one came in: *Have you eaten?*
’He actually replied!’
She was too embarrassed to send another voice message, so she typed her reply instead: *Yes, I’ve eaten.*
*Ian was very well-behaved today. The kindergarten has English, French, and German classes. He’s never been exposed to these languages before, so it’s a bit of a struggle for him.*
Melody Monroe stared at the message. ’They teach all that in kindergarten?’
’She was a college sophomore, and her English was still a hot mess!’
’Ian is only in kindergarten, and he already has to learn English, French, and German?!’
She suddenly remembered that Evan Fairchild was some kind of legend who was fluent in five languages!
It had been mentioned in the original novel.
The original novel had been set in a semi-fictional version of the real world. That’s why this world was a little strange, a mix of reality and the original author’s fantasies.
Evan Fairchild’s expectations were definitely different from her own.
Still, she was a little worried about Ian.
*Isn’t that too much for a little kid? Won’t it be too hard on him?*
*No. He seems quite happy about it himself.*
Seeing Evan Fairchild’s fingers tapping busily on the phone’s keyboard, Ian Monroe took a step closer. "Did Mom ask about me?"
"No." Evan Fairchild shook his head.
Ian looked aggrieved, his lower lip trembling in a pout.
Evan Fairchild continued typing.
*What are you shooting tomorrow?*
*A commercial. It’s my first endorsement deal.*
*Nice.*
Melody stared at the single word, stunned yet again.
’She seriously doubted that the person she was chatting with was actually Evan Fairchild!’
*Mr. Fairchild, is that you?*
’Why would she suddenly ask that? What kind of person did she think he was?’ He was genuinely curious.
"Do you want to see your mom?" Evan Fairchild suddenly asked Ian.
Ian nodded enthusiastically.
"Your mom really wants you to adjust well to your new kindergarten. How do you feel things have been going there?"
’It’s been awful!’ Ian thought.
’Half the kids were from other countries; just communicating was a problem.’
’At his old kindergarten, even though he wasn’t very talkative, he could understand what the teachers were teaching with just a single look. But now, he found it difficult; he had to focus and study seriously.’
’The worst part was that the teachers taught entirely in foreign languages.’
’On the first day, he hadn’t understood a single word.’
’Thankfully, the teachers would pull him aside to teach him some vocabulary, but he was still a long way from being on the same level as the other children!’
