Chapter 60: Watching Until Midnight
When Melody Monroe went to get him a change of clothes, she found his small wardrobe completely empty.
She made up her mind. As soon as she sold all this stuff, she would buy Ian some new clothes!
"Mama, here."
Melody Monroe looked up to see a glass of water being offered to her. A warmth spread through her heart. "Ian, are you tired? Are you thirsty?"
"I’m not tired, and I’m not thirsty. Mama’s tired. Mama should drink some water."
"Thank you, sweetheart." Melody Monroe downed the large glass of water in one go, then glanced at the time.
’Oh my god, it’s already past eleven!’
"It’s so late! Time to take a bath and go to bed!"
"But I’m not sleepy!"
"But Mommy is sleepy. We can finish packing tomorrow. We need to sleep tonight!"
Hearing this, Ian Monroe immediately ran toward the bathroom.
Melody Monroe came in with his pajamas and found the little guy already washing his hair. His clumsy attempts were just about the cutest thing she’d ever seen. She opened the shower door and went in. "Let Mommy help you."
She rinsed Ian Monroe’s little hands, then squeezed out some more shampoo and gently massaged it into his hair.
She noticed the little guy was actually getting shy. She reached out and gently booped his nose, leaving a dab of white foam on the tip. It was absolutely adorable.
"Don’t move! Mommy’s going to grab her phone and take a picture!"
Ian Monroe: ...
’As long as Mama’s happy!’
After she finished bathing Ian Monroe, Melody Monroe carried him straight to his room. Laid out on his bed were two identical sets of pajamas, one large and one small.
"Mommy bought new pajamas—they’re a matching set for us! Do you like them, Ian?"
"Yeah!" Ian Monroe nodded emphatically, eagerly picking his up to put them on.
Melody Monroe helped him get dressed and saw that it was a perfect fit. The pajamas were designed to look like a little white bunny, with a hood that had two big ears and a small tail on the seat.
It looked so adorable on Ian Monroe!
Melody Monroe whipped out her phone and started snapping a flurry of pictures of him.
One moment she was tugging on the bunny ears, the next she was pulling the short little tail. Ian Monroe was like a docile little rabbit, letting his mother have her fun with him.
"Wait for Mommy. I’m just going to take a quick shower."
"Okay!"
After her shower, Melody Monroe changed into her matching pajamas and pounced onto Ian Monroe’s little bed. "Mama Bunny’s here! Come to Mama Bunny’s arms, little bunny!"
Ian Monroe excitedly scrambled over to her.
Melody Monroe hugged him tight. "Tonight, Mommy’s going to sleep with you."
"Okay!" Ian Monroe pulled the blanket up to cover his mom, his big, bright black eyes fixed on her.
Melody Monroe was truly exhausted, and she fell asleep not long after her head hit the pillow.
Listening to his mother’s steady breathing, Ian Monroe reached out his little hand and turned off the light.
In the darkness, he quietly snuggled a little closer into his mother’s embrace.
...
Evan Fairchild checked the time.
Five minutes past midnight.
The light in that room had finally gone out.
He started the car and vanished into the pitch-black night.
...
The next morning, Melody Monroe woke to find the little guy in her arms already watching her.
She seemed to recall him looking at her just like this as she fell asleep last night. His beautiful big eyes, so bright and clear, looked as if they could speak.
She couldn’t resist planting a kiss on his little cheek.
"Are you hungry? I’ll go make breakfast."
"I want to come too!"
"Okay. Go brush your teeth and wash your face first. After breakfast, we have to get back to packing."
"Okay!"
After washing up, Melody Monroe opened her phone and was shocked to see she had 99+ messages...
They were all inquiries about the clothes she had listed for sale.
